Like it or not, that article was the harsh truth for many fans. BSB hasnt had the easiest road, or the most honest. It is apparent, however, that there are many unsolved problems among the group. As a fan, the only thing you can do is continue to support them. But I must admit, after reading that and finding all the dirt I have a new perspective on the boys that I'm not sure is in their best intrest. Hopefully, everything will work out!

What a shit(sorry for the bad word :))!!!I hate this journalist!!Why they are always comparing the BSB with NSYNC? BSB are popular for since 10 years maybe less but anyway they are still popular.NSYNC are just popular for since humm i dunno but less than the BSB.Backstreet Boys are not a boyband. i'm supporting Nick for his solo album and i still love the BSB(I,m a fan since 1996). The journalists all hate the BSB and they are trying to make the fans hate them and make us love NSYNC if we hate them.
I know the BSB are not perfect but i love them :)They have voice instead NSYNC :)lol

bye bye

well, i think the article helped answer a lot of unanswered questions about the boys that i had. It's kind of scary in my opinion, i mean im going to school soon to someday hopefully become a singer, and i have never known the music business to be so dark, i have always known it to be complicated but never to this level. Now i feel sorry for the boys and wonder how they managed to hold on for so long and keep going despite such problems, and how they always made my day go by well, when i'd see them on TV, and in reality behind the smiles they were miserable. I don't think that we should act so naive and believe that they were getting all this fame and money and not paying a price for it. Every thing that's good comes with some repurcussions, and i speak of expierience. True that it was definatly too much but unfoutunatly it happened. It seems all too coincidential to me, i'll get a little personal so you see how much i'm heartbroken by this. i'll make it as short as i can. I was born in portugal and moved to the US in 1995. At the time in Potugal i remeber hearing the boys's singel "we've got it going on" but i believe that i was just too young to even pay attention to it. along time i grew up and moved once again. i entered a whole new school and i met these two girls whom i quickly became really good friends with. And that began with our common infatuation with the boys. we spoke, laughed. and enjoyed the concerts of the boys, i thank them now more than ever for those concerts which might of been really hard to do under the circumstances they were living with. but anyway, on my senior year in high school i always thought the boys would have a CD out for me to enjoy, but never did. Eventually me and the two best friends that i had known for the past 4 or almost 5 years of my life abruptly stopped talking to me. In many senses the backstreet boys got us together and in another because of their absense we began to drive each other out of each other's lives. I really took a blow when that happened to me, but i now am moving on with my life and getting it started. I do know that bsb's problems are way more drastic than mine but, i got up from the rut that i was and i have all hopes that they will too.
I think it was rather wrong of nick to stick with the firm when the boys didn't. if he is so much a part of the band and always will be even doing a solo project, he should have thought of himself as a part of the band when the band offered the firm an ultimatum, but he just stuck with his business, forgeting about the boys, i would not blame the guys for getting mad at nick. In reality if nick comes out with the album im going to support him buying is cd but i don't know if i'd go see him on tour after all, i could always see him with the boys, that is if everything works out, so why pay twice the amount of money. Either way i would support both parties, but in my opinion this whole thing of going solo i don't think it will work out it's either solo or just the band. i get a bad feeling from this. Last night i was listning to the radio and "shape of my heart " came on and i became worried that i'd never hear the boys that way again, together. i'll be praying for them, they have made my life a little more calm even when personally they weren't alright. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

PS. E=mail me with any questions or comments you may have.

*sigh* I just have one question...now I only read the article once but I don't seem to remember any Backstreet bashing going on in there. Everyone's saying to leave the Boy's alone and to stop criticizing them. Where in that article were they criticized??? They stated FACTS. Sure it wasn't something us as fans want to hear but that doesn't mean we have to yell at the messenger. To us, the boys' will always be known as "the Boys" because we love them so much. And come on, we've all made friends because of them. lol Those facts do not change and neither does their talent. Stop bashing the poor reporter who was assigned to this article. It was a pretty impartial article, as I've mentioned before. And to Molly in PA...what you said was very well said. :)

hey yall~
i just wanted to voice my opnion on this article..i have been a backstreet fan for like almost 4 years now i guess..but thats not what im here to talk about

yall are sayin that its just old people writing this stuff and that the backstreet boys are here to entertain u, not them, and that bsb isnt in it to make money and all that other stuff i USED to say when i heard rumors of them breaking up

but c'mon yall lets be real, everyone knows its been a downhill slide for them since black and blue came out, and nsync is tough competition for them. plus, by nick going solo, he is commiting murder to the group, because i bet 90% of yall wouldnt like the boys if nick wasnt in it..so once he leaves, its over for the rest of them and yall know it, so stop acting like its not..the same with justin leavin nsync, its over for them once he goes solo...its a known fact that once the heartthrob leaves, the rest of the band is left to suffer because nobody gives a damn about them anymore

so thats my opnion on the whole thing

I think the article said a lot of things that fans can't see or don't want to see. It's not as if the person who wrote this article just starting writing anything, the writer is from the new york times, so some time was spent into how this band is slowly falling. It show's how stars make mistakes, and how many mistakes backstreet has made. Cuz everyone does make mistakes.
I think fans can sit there pointing fingers at whoever, but the music business is very risky, and I think it just comes with what they want and that's fame. So with fame there's a price. And all this finger pointing is not going to get backstreet to number one, buy their albums, go to concerts if you have the money. Request their songs on the radio, that's all that you can do to make sure that the backstreet support is there.

P.S. I dont like the title of this either - The lost boys , how a pop sensation came undone. That's so not true! And to prove it, the only things that the fans can do right now, is KTBSPA, support our guys no matter what, and vote like crazy to get our boys back on the charts, at number one, where they belong! Also, does anyone else agree that the ONLY reason NSYNC got so HUGE was because of all this from JIVE?

I think that it's not fair what Jive did to the backstreet boys, they're supposed 2 be a really good label. However, pairing this and the article about black and blue really selling 3.6 million copies, it makes people start 2 wonder - first of all, the backtreet boys ARE NOT "OVER" but it kind of seems like the record label is leaning towards NSYNC to give them more promotion, and that's not fair. i agree w/ melanie, the backstreet boys are normal average evry day people, (who can sing like nothing else!) so they go through the financial business just like everyone else. However i dont think this is fair based on the rivalry between the backstreet boys and NSYNC that the media set up, especially since they're now on the same lable.

First of all, anyone who says that the backstreet boys are over or gone, has never really been a fan of the bsb, and they obviously aren't paying attention. ALL members of the BSB have said that they aren't going anywhere, and as long as we keep buying the albums, they won't go anywhere. If they do their own things, it's justt o show everyone a new side of them. They had solo songs and nobody complained. If you truly are fans of the bsb, keep buying the albums and KTBSPA!

Ok, first of all i'm sick and tired of hearing everyone say "oh, it's the end of the backstreetboys." The backstreet boys aren't going anywhere they have sais it them self!!! Just because they change labels and managers or whatever doesn't mean that gonna stop making music!!!! they make the music for us the fans! we love them and they love us! personally i've loved the backstreetboys since 1997 and i always will i'll support them in ANYTHING they do!!!

If Nick decides to do a solo album so be it he just wants to express himself of show the world a differebt side of Nick Carter! He will ALWAYS be a backstreet boy just like A.J. will, BRIAN will, KEVIN will, and HOWIE will! No matter what happens they'll always be the backstreet boys and they've said they are NOT breaking up not for many years to come they love each other and us. One more thing as you can see the pop world is declining so when the next albums or whatever comes out lets show our SUPPORT and LOVE for them and prove that the backstreet boys aren't just a boy band, Thanks for reading and remember,

Hi~
Well i actually saw that in the NY times yesterday and was very suprised. At first i thought it was some big come back thing, but to my dissmay it wasn't. But that's alright. The people who write these artical's are old sinical people who don't care if it's wrong or right. They don't always get the facts right and put there own twist to it all. Don't go slaming Nsync though. I mean i love the backstreet boys and all, but hey remember Nsync is also trying to make a living too, and survive just like BSB are. They all have talent and why waste it? I'm a big fan of BSB, i've never been to a concert but it makes no diffrence to me seeing them in person than listing to their music. It's the whole fact that they make wonderful music and have gorgious voices..........I like the music and that's what matters. They enjoy making good music for their fans, and i'm proud to say that i love their music and i hope that whatever happens with the group they will continue to make great music with their lovely voices. Hey if Nick starts a solo carrier, good for him, it's his life long dream.......... If you have a dream and get the chance to do it, whould you just leave it behind? What ever happens i'll always be a fan! I Love the group and have never listened to the people who write such articles as this one because they are just trying to make a living too. So come on.......... don't listen to these writers, they should have asked the fans what we thought and they would be really suprised. But hey we love BSB anyways! Keep the bsb pride alive and kicking, they'll be back soon no need to waste all your energy worrying...... they've told us that they will and have they ever been wrong or lied? Nope they've always been very honest no matter what and you all know that! So ignore the sinical writers of such articals, and put some of your anger into energy for the boys! Don't waste your energy on something that is stupid like that when you know the guys probably need it more!

I'm informed, but also extremely p.o.'d and think the writer greatly exaggerated: i.e.: Executives working with the BackStreet Boys said band members had stopped getting along after the release of "Black and Blue." . Well, we the REAL fans know the REAL truth: that's a bunch of BS! So is
(Mr. Pearlman said that he had supported taking time off for the operation immediately.)

Well, first of all, I thought that the article was very informative and it really explained a lot of things. I think that a lot of us had been suspicious about things for awhile, and the article just laid the cards down on the table. I was just gonna leave my post at that, but after reading what other people had to say, there are some things I need to comment on.
People are saying that the writer of this article pulled facts out of his ass. You all seem to forget that this is the fucking New York Times we're talking about here...refusing to believe the NY Times is like doubting CNN. And I've read some things about how this author is just a lame critic, which is also not true. If it was, there are easier targets out there for him to attack.

And for God's sake, stop blaming every Backstreet problem on NSYNC and the critics! It's just not cool. The critics are just doing their job, which is giving their opinions on the lastest music. They don't have to be in love with the Backstreet Boys. If I was a middle-aged male music critic, I wouldn't like them either.
And who really CARES if Chris got a mohawk after Kevin did? It is NOT something to stress out about! Yeah, so our boys have similarities with NSYNC. Complaining about it is not going to do any good. They both have to take steps into different musical directions with different management in order for that to change. It'll happen, don't worry about.
As far as Nick and Justin's songs are concerned? I might be the only one with this opinion, but I think it's a good thing that they're both coming out around the same time. In case you haven't noticed, pop music is on the decline. Both of those songs are going to get a decent amount of airplay and exposure, so maybe they'll help bring pop music on the rise again.
Well, that pretty much covers it. Thanks for reading!

Well, for starters I'd like to say that I really miss the Boys at the moment. It's been such a long time since they released anything. I loved them when they released Millennium and Black & Blue. I still love them now. I'll never stop loving them.
Kevin, Howie, Brian, AJ and Nick have done so much for me. They kept me going when I was down. They do that for so many people. If they were to break up, it would be worse than when Take That broke up.
I don't think the media realise how much they're hurting us fans by all this speculation. It is so hard to keep faith when there's so many people who seem to be against you.
I do know that we have to remain loyal to them, no matter what.
AJ had problems, but he got them sorted. Brian got through his operation because of us. He said afterwards that all the well wishes and good thoughts were what kept him going. They love us as much as we love them.
They have been through so much together. All of them have things which have challenged them in the past. They helped each other through it though. Nick loves Brian so much. It was easy to see how much hurt he was goin through when Brian was having the operation. He was so scared.
They all love each other. And I'm sure they always will.

Hey. What I read in that article was really not what I would've ever suspected. All the things they said about Backstreet Boys and what they've been going through...I don't think they had a right to go through all that. They were continuously comparing the Boys to N SYNC, which is something that the BSB and their fans completely hate! The one thing that worried me the most was about how Nick stayed back and kept with the Firm, but the rest of the boys didn't. Is that supposed to mean something? Something important? That kind of made me worry. So what if Nick is doing a solo album, he has said he still wants to be part of the Boys and the new album. Anyways...Backstreet will pull through. They always do. We can be sure of that. They'll do anything they need to to stay together, and make their careers more of what they want. Sorry if this isn't understandable...I'm kind of thinking of things as I go. I don't even know if what I'm saying is really what I'm trying to say. Lol. All I know is that article kinda made me mad. Anyways...KTBSPA!!!

I just want to say that I don't believe that the BSB are UNDONE, or something like it.
Look all the artists. We can use for an example MICHAEL JACKSON. He was one of the most succeful solo singer some years ago... then he just disappeared of the music scene. He disappeared for the industry, but not to the fans. And then, he got back.
The same is happening to the Backstreet Boys. They have a real BIG TALENT, and the industry don't care about it, they just want to get money, money, money and money. If somebod˙ just disappear for a while, to work, or anything, THEY SAY THAT IT'S OVER!
Everybody just starts saying: OH, THEY HAVE NO FANS ANYMORE, IT'S OVER...
We, the fans, start getting sad, and the critics starts saying: WE HAVE PRESEEN IT BEFORE, IT"S JUST LIKE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK, AND TAKE THAT, AND MENUDO... WE KNEW IT...
SAYING THINGS THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN YET! AND THATI BELEIVE, IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

If Nick goes solo, who cares? LETS SUPPORT HIM. For example take Mick Jagger. He's the vocalist of one of the most successful rock''n'roll bands ever, The Rolling Stones. He works solo and with the band. And it doesn't mean that the band is over.

The problem is that the critics always had an opinion about WHAT THEY CALL BOY BANDS... They say that some cute guys singing and dancing are goin anywhere. They always had a preconcept against the BSB, since the New Kids On The Block falled.

And they just can't accept that the BSB are grown up men, and it's their job, it's not like: WE WANT MONEY, WE WANT MONEY. And when you have a job you have UPS and DOWNS... if you're down, it doesn't mean you're over, does it?

As somebody said, I can't remember who, the music industry roads in circles... And it's like this!
But people always expects that a group that have always been successful, cannot stop for a while, cannot don't have a Top 10 single, cannot don't be at first everyday on TRL.
Besides, that people should think about it: If the BSB were always on first, always working, always making money, and always on tour, what would happen to the rock'n'roll bands? What about Madonna?

The BSB are down now, they're working on the new album, Nick is going solo making one of his dreams true. We just gotta keep SUPPORTING EM!
We can't do anything but it!
I REALLY HOPE THAT THEY ARE DOING THE RIGHT THINGS NOW. AND IF THEY'RE FIGHTING, OR IF THAY'RE AGAINST NICK... DON'T WORRY, IT'S LIKE FAMILY FIGHTS.
I DON'T CARE IF THE NEW MANAGERS SAY THAT HE DOESN'T CARE IF NICK LEAVES. I KNOW THAT NICK IS NOT GONNA LEAVE, AND I KNOW THAT THE OHER GUYS ARE NOT GOIN TO GET AN INFLUENCE FROM THE MANAGERS, AND TELL NICK TO LEAVE, BECAUSE THEY'RE ARE GROWN UP MEN, AND I DO KNOW THAT THEY KNOW HOW TO THINK WITH THEIR OWN MINDS.
KEEP THE BACKSTREET PRIDE ALIVE!

I can't beleive it.They looked so happy.I feel like shoving Nsyncs album up justin's joey's kris's and the rest of their fake butts.F the critics. What do they know. How to ruin our boys carreer.that's about it.How the hell did the rumors get stated they were breaking up.Now I know why.still that gives no right for critics to be that rude. And also I did notice the simalarities.Lance brian has heart problems. There's one thing i know they on't habve in common for sure.I bet the same thing will happen to Nsync or even worse. And i hope it hits so clpose to home that eminem comes and shoves a cd up all of their non exsistant butts.Nsync ugly.BSB is not.I can't stand how people say they look alike. They don't sing alike either.Someone needs to pull what ever is in justin timberlakes's thrght or butt out.Even niclebackcan sing better than that and I don't sclub7 can sing better that that and they haven't even put out a hit in 2 yrs.I wishthat nsync would fall down and die.The article well i don't know.Bye.
