The Lost Boys: How a Pop Sensation Came Undone

I found this article very interesting. I seems alot of what was said seemed to be Kevins point of view. I did not think that Black & Blue was a bad album, and for crying out loud he should have kept that to himself. People have enough bad things to say about the boys without one of the members saying not so positive things about their work. Nicks going on his own is not a surprise to me, seeing as the mother he has. I think she has used him to further Aarons career along. She is for the almighty dollar and NIcks album if it does well should net him in alot of money. He wouldnt have to share with 4 other guys. Will there be a Backstreet Boys without Nick. I doubt it. Can they get it together enough to do another Album? I dont think so. Before when it was mostly just them it was easier. Now with Nick getting close to his mother again, wives & girlfriends getting involved, they are no longer a team like the used to be. Remember the Beatles? Who exactly broke them up. Its no secret that Brians wife is very involved with his decisions. She didnt get where she is by being meek. She wouldnt be anywhere with out him. Leigh-Ann Who?? Anyway the article was misleading about NSyn passing BSB up. They sold over 5 million CDs. We all know how good Nsycs No Strings did, but how well did their last album do. Not much better than BSB, and BSBs Millineum was the highest selling Album in its first week. Black & Blue surpassed that. I still think that the Boys could do a fantastic new album , but the press, TV you name are still making fun of them. Even Nsyc is getting it now. They are trying their best to wipe out Pop Music all together, and this article though it wasnt awful was not helpful. This is just my opinion. I still love the boys Im just looking at it realistically. Again in my opinion.

For every line you type here, make sure you request Nick Carter's "Help Me" twice as much.

hey peeps i'm just writing 2 say i totally agree with jennifer from sc, i just sed my piece and didn't argue with peeps, don't take 1 article 2 heart people with sence won't, and also won't blame bsb 4 being human(like gettin married and doin their own thing)

Okay, first off, I want to ask all of you, why are we still hung up on the fact that two of the guys got married? That was like two years ago!!! Get over it already! There's nothing you can do about it! They're happy! Leave them alone! About Nick's solo album, go back and read my first entry. I'm just sick of reading all this sh*t some of you are posting. If you aren't a fan, don't put in your two cents. We're just fans. We could care less about marketing schemes or all of that mumbo-jumbo. Also, message boards like this aren't made for people to fight with each other. Say your peace and get out of here. Reading this stuff after a while makes me embarrassed to be a fan. We're supposed to be a united front for the boys, but all we seem to do is argue with other people over what is or what isn't important! Grow up! How are we supposed to support our guys when we just bash each other?

Hi, I,m from the UK and I thought the article was very interesting.I ONLY HAVE ONE THING TO SAY!!

Well let me just say that the most ridiculous thing that I read was all that talk about the Backstreet Boys conctinuing on without Nick. HA HA HA HA. . .it makes me laugh, really it does. We all know that they aren't complete without all five. Which is a little shady because I have a feeling Nick is going to do awesome as a solo artist and how many solo artist can u think of that are actively in a group and on tour by themselves at the same time? I can't think of any. So that may not be a good thing, I guess we'll have to see. As for all the troubles they've faced I just think that makes them all the stronger and better. It proves they're wiser and committed, and aren't afraid to stand up for what they believe in. I love Kev to death but he's a little too "my way or the highway" for me, but that's ok becasue I know his strong opinions are in it for the betterment of the group. I could share how I feel all day, but I think I'll end with this....I Love Nickolas!!!

Hey...I see some Nsync fans talking shit bout bsb here...shudn't the site have some protection against viruses called Nsync teeny fans! anyways...this article was positive from one point and kinda dissin from other point cos bsb are still there and they've been goin on for years now and still they are together like a band of brothers!
Submitted by Hannah from New York USA
There really isn't much more to say... all of you guys have said exactly what was needed. I agree with your comments about N Sync and how they are always praised even though they're immature. The BSB have been through so much(family deaths, rehab, bad management, etc.) and still have stayed together. That definatly deserves so recognition. I have been a fan forever and I realize that in the eyes of the media the boys won't always be #1 whether it is award shows or billboard charts but does that really matter? The BSB have the greatest fans and no matter what happens we will love them. I don't believe that the boys could break up over something like this considering all the crap they have been through already. They have made statements that they support Nick and nothing is happening and though no one knows if it is the truth, the boys have always told us the truth and i have faith that they will continue to do so. A few bad choices doesn't mean that its the end or that the guys are bad people. Just don't let this article get to you (I'm trying to take my own advice)- The media have ways of making something not so bad look like something extremely bad. True BSB fans will love them and stick by them through thick and thin! I mean... WE LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM- MUSIC, PERSONALITY, INDEPENDENT SPIRITS, ETC.! KTBSPA ALWAYS!! Don't lose Faith!!

Ok, its me again. Yeah ok...Jodie, I DO NOT agree with you when you say that bsb's BIG days are over. If your a true fan you wouldnt have said that. I believe they could win it all back. They just have to shock people with this new one. They can do it, I belive in them. There are so many things wronge with ths article. First off, BSB would be basicly DEAD if they lost a member, it has been WAY too long for them to start switching members, it would be totally different band if they did. So..NO. Also, they said that bsb has lost their teen fans, that is NOT true..Im 14, almost 15, and I am...seriously the worlds biggest bsb fan. So are my friends. I think that people just dont appreciate when bands go all out and tell the truth. They love these little puppet boys, that they have total control of, they just want the MONEY. thats why they love nsync ok. Now, as for AMY, you keep saying the same thing over and over, dont think we dont see it.. WE GET IT SHUT UP. NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU THINK. anyways what we have to do as fans, is

The article had one too many inaccuracies in it. Plus, just because thye released a Greatest Hits album after five years in this country doesn't mean something bad. Come on, 12 hits in 4 years. The is impressive. 4 hits in four years is even good. I think the New York times should have done further research before writing this article. Seriously, it sounds like an article the National Enquirer would write.

ok...what the hell...first off, Kevin is 30, not 29. Secondly, I got my tickets for the Black and Blue tour in November 2000. Whatever that whole thing about tickets not going on sale until Jan. 2001 is EL TORRO POO POO! I think the whole article was s whole rumor starter. We all know the Boys aren't breaking up. They have denied it so many times. Ans so what if sometimes they get on each other's nerves! It's like siblings - you live with them all the time and of course you're gunna get pissed at them but you still love them! Oh, and also, I beg to differ that BSB fell when NSYNC started to come out. BSB was still strong! Hell, from Millennium to Black and Blue their first week record sales went UP. NSYNC's WENT DOWN, PEOPLE! And "the Backstreet Boys lost their young audience when they tried to fashion a darker, more adult look; they alienated love-smitten fans when two group members married; they damaged their image when they admitted that the band member A. J. McLean had checked into rehab for alcohol abuse and depression." OK. They didn't lose me *and I'm a younger audience if you count the 14 years of age area* when they went dark....and they really didn't go "darker" in my opinion. I did not feel alienated when they got married. I WAS PROUD THAT THEY COULD FIND SOMEONE TO LOVE THEM FOR WHO THEY ARE AND GO INTO COMMITMENT! And it didn't damage their image. Even if it did, it should've helped their image because it erally takes strength to admit something's wrong! They proved they are not just "boys" anymore!! This whole article just makes me wanna hurt the author...

You are all sick! pop phenomenon is a twisted marketing scheme! all they want is your money, seriously, wake up! its sick, 13 year old girls are like "oh my gosh i love these 5 men and i wanna marry all of 'em" its hysterical to see how brainwashed some people become when they see five men in jeans and t-shirts who pretend to sing!

I think that it did have a lot of truth about the business but it also aired a lot of dirty laundry that I don't think was necessary to the article....such as how Nick isn't recording with them. Also they made Leighanne out to be the new Yoko Ono when she really is entitled to influence her husbands decisions because they affect her as well.

I think this article holds a lot of truth. If only other people could read this and get insight into the boys, instead of just dismissing them as some pop sensation. The boys have gone through a lot of sh*t (heart surgery, deaths, rehab, arrests, management issues, etc.) and they deserve much more credit than they receieve. However, N Sync, who's just riding along doing whatever the hell they please and getting all the attention, have no problems. That's what pisses me off the most. I just want the boys to get some respect, but who gets it? N Sync. However, even if they have like the Backstreet Mania, they still have a lot of fans. Maybe they're not screaming teenyboppers as much anymore, but they're mature people that appreciate them for who they are, what they do, and, on top of everything, their music. Right? And, on the Backstreet Band issue like somebody mentioned, you're right...Tommy and the rest of the band should never have left. Now, most of them are with O-Town, who i must admit, kick some major a$$ in concert. I've seen them twice, and walked away happy. They're not about special effects or dancers or ne of that...they're about the music and it shows. I love the boys more than anything, but when O-Town's new album comes out I don't know what's going to happen. I've heard a lot of songs from it, and they're going for more of a rock edge, and the songs are sooo amazing. However, I hope the BSB goes for more the adult contemporary stuff like "Drowning," because I also love that. While N Sync stays with the teen pop that only they can do, hopefully some of their fans will notice and cross over to one of the two groups that deserve it--mainly BSB. I know a lot of people hate O-Town because of all the Making the Band thing, but even kevin admits he lieks the group, just not the way they were kinda in a boy band training camp, cuz now everybody thinks that's how BSB got started. But anyway, O-Town, like BSB, deserve a lot more than they get...and I like both groups. Although it may not sound it, BSB more. Also, Timmy Berkibile is now playing for Rich Cronin's (of LFO) new group, Bad Mood Mike, a kind of rap-pop thing, and I also saw them in concert...and they're great also. See what happens when BSB loses a good back-up band? Whoever said that was right, although I won't agree with you that the Black & Blue tour sucked.

I don't care what the New York Times says, or any other media outlet. The media has always had a love/hate relationship with the Backstreet Boys. First it was by derogatorily calling them a "Boy Band" and then it was by comparing them to other pop acts. Bottom Line: the Backstreet Boys are immensely talented. If they want to do so, they can weather any storm and get through to the other side. Their music is immensely important to me, and I know their next album (and Nick's) will be great. As long as we, their fans, love them, the Backstreet Boy--if they have the determination-- will be around for a long time to come. Frankly, I'm glad they have had some time during this hiatus to enjoy their lives. I don't want them burned out. They are not the "teeny bopper" dreams they were, perhaps, but they are truly wonderful musical talents who will be around for a long time to come. I love the Backstreet Boys: their music has gotten me through so many bad times, and it still does. I love their voices, their personalities, their looks, their decency. No, BSB isn't perfect, but they come pretty close. And by the way, the fact that the media is writing about them is good. It shows that they know people still want to hear about the Boys. God bless the Backstreet Boys.

Bonnie girl I have to agree with you on what you said I know bsb can get through this I know in their hearts they ca do it. Like you said if we stay strong and we support bsb and show them we love them we can do it. Bsb need our love and support we have to be strong like the song says they got it goin on and also they are the shape of our hearts and we love them more than that we are there for them cuz they have the perfect fans. from nat

In Canada we have supported BSB from day 1. But., I do feel that this article holds tha truth. This article is pretty much expressing the dayz of Backstreet Mania to the dayz when that mania had ended. This article is pretty much tellin tha truth. The glory dayz of tha boyz are over, but I do believe that they will still continue on making music for their fans.
