I like Nick's new single and I still consider myself a fan even though I'm going into my 20's. I may not be a huge fan as I was but I'm still a fan. These guys have been part of my life as I grew so I just can't say "oh they are out of my life now." Secondly I'm impressed by this article because it's half true and half false and I won't go into details because ya'll know what I mean. I don't know so much about the involvement of Brian's wife, Leighanne, in his business. Heck I don't even know if the statement I heard recently is true that Brian and Nick are not getting along and it has to do with Leighanne's influence. More than likely is another rumor but it came from a pretty good source so I don't know. Either way I hope it's not true because those two are like brothers she's not part of the group so she shouldn't meddle. About the Nsync deal, if what that article said is true and I see that most of you agree with it then those representatives or even the same members of Nsync have taken advantange and it even sounds sickening to know that some others had that idea before them instead of coming up with some of their own. I guess that's the power of the music business. Anyways, I've lost part interest in pop music. I like to listen to diverse types of music but I'm a rock fan. Like I've said before I enjoy listening to Backstreet music so I'll see how Nick's songs are before I buy the album. Goodbye and good luck to all. This is my opinion and if flamers want to get on my case ok, but keep in mind that what I'm saying is an opinion and nothing more. So take it for what you will... Now, I have liked bsb since spring of '98 not as long as some but still a substantial amount of time. And I think that most of the article was relatively accurate. The Backstreet Boys are fading... To deny this is to be blind. Each day of the seeming "hiatus", you can see fans becoming more and more placid about them. BSB dosen't ellicite the reactions it once did. The stadium to arena transition pointedly displays this. However, I think this is a turn for the better; the fanatical people that go after groups because they are the "new hip thing" are being culled out. And what shall remain are the true fans that acutually care. Reasons for the slow down... Musically, I thought Black and Blue left something to be desired... It had varying facets that rounded it out so that it came out in the end as a "B" grade album but I think some poor choices on producers/writers were made. The music scene is changing and in order for the Backstreet Boys to keep up they need to stop trying to rely on older, out of place sounds to make their hits. "The Call" was the freshiest sounding single they had off that album especially with the neptunes remixing it; however, I think it should have been released first. "Shape of My Heart" although single quality should not have been the first single. Far too passive and boarderline "stereotypical backstreet boys song".... "The Call" would have done wwwaaaayyy better for the album.... As for Nick's budding solo career, I think it's bad timing for BSB as a group. He is definitely hurting BSB by doing this now. However, I will support the cd because he is Nick after all. Listening to "Help Me" makes me think of vh1... It's sounds very mature, very adult contemporary. Which may alienate some of the younger fans but should make up for it as it garners up lots adult listeners. It also lacks the kind of hook that would make it insanly popular... but it should have relative chart successs. I pray that the next album is done EXTREMELY well because if it's not the backstreet boys will disband. And by "done" I mean not only written and produced awesome but managed very well. Singles need to be really thought out; and for their own sake the Backstreet Boys need to really do some promoting. I don't care what they promote but it has to be something. Yes, the boys worked very hard to get to where they are today and not everything in life comes easy. What's written shows that the boys worked their asses off and some cruel man decided he didn't like it anymore or whatever his lame reason was and that he was going to try to descruct them. Obviously it didn't work, but it still makes everyone mad. (with the exception of nsync) I believe in BSB and I think they deserve all they've earned. Not everybody is perfect but i'll tell u they are damn near close. BSB will not fall to the level of disguist that others have. They will rise and we'll be there when they do. I think what's written in the article is true, considering it was published in the New York Times! It wouldn't be published if it was full of false information. I don't think all people realize that the boys' career doesn't souly depend on them and what they want. They have to put their careers in the hands of production companies and managers and promoters. I feel bad this is what they're having to go through when all everyone wants is some good, happy music to keep us all sane. It mustn't be about money considering, like the article said, the boys are (financially) set for life. I think anything is possible with the future of this group. Nick has potential and may choose to use it as a solo act, the other guys seem to be more serious about their long term, respected career. I'll back them all with whatever they do because I've loved 'em forever, I just hope everyone who enjoys them so much, will stick by them in whatever happens in their career. I was real happy it focused on the facts and didn't really allow opinions in. I'm sick of the whole Backstreet/NSYNC thing. I'd really rather just try to forget about it. But I think Backstreet made a lot of wrong decisions on thir own part. They haven't made any tv appearances in how many years? Obviously if they're not goin to do it, somebody else is. So that they messed up for themselves. I don't think them not receiving their fair share of cash is right, no matter how much money they do have. No one should have to be ripped off like that. But I really do think the ticket prices were absolutely ridiculous for the Black and Blue tour. I also think their efforts stunk. I went to the Hartford shows and they made absolutely no effort to interact with thier fans. Well, I'm sorry if the dates were scheduled later and it wasn't as big as an arena as they were used to but I know this was my first Backstreet concert, and I'm sure many other peoples as well. To have paid the huge amounts of cash I did to be there cause I heard they had all this stuff and then get nothing was disappointing. I think they should spend just a lil more time out of the courts and thinking about their fans. Clearly, Nick is not leaving, and the band is not breaking up-obviously or they wouldn't be recording and setting themselves to release a new album. And apparently the author hasn't looked at the points that matter here- Nsuck breaks into the industry right after BSB and is a mirror-image copycat group and they do everything just before BSB does it. If BSB is going to release an album, Nsync releases one the week before. BSB's Burger King promotion? They get McDonald's as a sponsor and advertises a week before. Lou Pearlman swindled both groups out of the money they should have profitted from-which should tell you that you can't listen to a word he says!! And let's look at hardships-When Brian neede heart surgery, the industry and management pushed him to hold off so they could finish the tour-something that was life threatening in the first place.
