DLF Cruise with Howie

Date: Dec 30, 2001
Submitted By: Shellie Chambers

Hey all!!! Hope you had a Merry Christmas and ring in the New Year with fun and safety!!! Remember, don't drink and drive! Anyway on with my review of the Cruise: IT WAS A BLAST!!! Sure some things were not up to par, but so what. We were there to support Howie, his family, and a charity that I strongly believe in. And it was to have FUN!! If you can't remember that, then maybe you should loosen up and try not to be so serious about things. I agree with Jennifer Ruggiero and Krista---it was sooooo much fun and I definately look forward to going again next year.

Pollyanna did a wonderful job with her piano player coming up ill and it was great singing christmas carols with her. I know she will make it in the biz, especially with song like "Wet"--its hilarious!!

All-in-all, things went very well and I hope that we suceeded in helping raise money for DLF. It is upsetting to know that only a very low portion of the money from the rooms "rented" went to the charity and I hope something can be done about that because my friends and I were under the impression that ALL proceeds went to DLF. Turns out that wasn't the case----Our sincere apologies go out to you-Howie, Pollyanna, Angie, Mr. & Mrs. Dorough, John, and the extended Dorough family--we hope that things will be different next year.

And to Laura--Pollyanna's assistant--you did a wonderful job also with everything. Again I thank you for all your help with our raffle--and having Pollyanna and Howie sign the Lupus bear for us. You rock g/f!!! thank you, too,Howie and Pollyanna for signing the bear for us--a lucky winner will treasure it I'm sure.

Hope to see everyone next year

I recently returned from one of the most fun vacations. I went with three other friends on the "Cruise with Howie D" and it was fabulous.

We did the meet and greet, which was nice. I wish we had more time for it though. It seems that there were some troubles with keeping the room as long as we needed it for the meet and greet. Evidently, we only had a set amount of time to use this room, so the meet and greet was somewhat rushed. Regardless, I was happy to meet Howie and get a pic taken with him. He seems like such a nice person.

The scavenger hunt was a blast! True, there was a glitch with the last clue, but who cares? It was all in good fun and it was only a game. Some of the other cruisegoers were much too serious about it. They need to lighten up (in my opinion). We were "group 5" in the obstacle course... and that was a lot of fun as well.

Pollyanna did a concert and made the best of her piano player having fallen ill. She gave a lovely performance. After performing her songs, she invited us to sing along to Christmas songs.

We participated in the Karaoke contest and performed "All The Small Things," but changed the lyrics to a comical bizarro world of Howie being obsessed with us (instead of us, the fans, being obsessed with him). It was cute, but we messed up at the end. For me, it was difficult to sing all new lyrics when I know the original lyrics so well. So naturally, I messed up. Oh well... it was still fun!

I'm not one to get all hysterical and cry when people perform, but when Howie and Pollyanna sang "Fly To Heaven," it was so touching, my eyes began to tear. The song is so heartfelt, real, and very beautiful.

My friends and I were into the late night clubbing scene, so we did see Howie and his family/friends quite a bit on the cruise. Either in the casino, or in the club, or up on the Lido deck after the club closed - we would run into them. It was kinda neat seeing his handsome, smiling face so often. The guys that were with him were awfully cute too. ;-)

The Carnival cruise staff was fabulous. The ship was amazing! The Lupus group interaction was a lot of fun! Two thumbs up from me! I plan to go next year. :-)

Ok I was just sitting here reading all the reviews from the cruise with Howie......you know I cannot believe that most of the people went on this cruise just to see Nick...so he didn't show big deal...you know what I would have given to be able to go on that cruise and meet Howie? i cried cause i could not afford to go..all you guys were so lucky cause you got to be there...you got to see howie and his family...you all should be grateful for that..some of us didn't even get that!!!!

I just wanted to say that this cruise was not based around Nick Carter.,. it was a benifit, for a charity..and a good charity if i may say so. so pleae feel lucky you all got that much excitment in your life!!!!!!

Happy New Year and I love you Howie!!!

Some of you sound totally ungrateful! I am disgusted with your reviews and even if you had a bad time you should NOT blame it on the Dorough family! They probably had some help planning and so what if a few things are disorganized! you are there to help the DFL foundation! and Howie is a normal person so if you only got to be with him for 30 seconds then deal with it! He deserves down time with his family and friends without interuptions just like everyone else! Plus there was a lot of people of the boat! maybe next time you should just let the people who really care about helping the foundation and you stay home!

ok...overall, i had a blast on the cruise and i love howie and his family dearly;howie is truly a sweet person just like i thought he would be. My heart fell to the floor when it was announced that nicky was a no show at the very last minute i mite add. Nicky, if ur readin this ur a complete moron...just kiddin.!!!! Cant help but love u!!!i do have to say in all seriousness that nick should never be advertised as the special guest because it will probably never come true. I just hope Howie wasnt too let down by his callin at the last minute to cancel. I miss Howie soooooo much, i saw there video on trl when i returned home and started cryin. He just melted my heart and hes not even my favorite.

Things were very disorganized and im not tooo happy with all the money i payed and some of the things that went on or didnt for that matter.. i do have to say it was worth it enough with the friends i made and the great experiences. For the cause and Howie d i will be back next year and at Lupus 2002; and i hope and pray nicky will be there this time around!!!!!!!!!???????????

Hey Everyone!

I hope you all had a great time on this year's annual lupus cruise! I know I did! There were some gliches, some things that could be worked on, but hey, everyone makes mistakes. I'm sure you all saw my family and I (We dissed disney to cruise with howie d.). Both lupus cruises were a blast. First of all, I was somewhat dissapointed in the meet and greet this year. We got pre-signed posters that were from another event, and we had to pay $20 to get a "professional" picture taken. The picture turned out somewhat red, but otherwise it was a nice picture. We managed to get a reprint of that photo and the photography place we took it to managed to alter the color a little so it wasn't as red. As far as the meet and greet went, I thought last year's was a lot better, but last year there were only about 150. This year there was double that amount. We would have been there all night if Howie had to sign 300 people's things and meet with them. So I was a little dissapointed (not mad)in that, but hey, at least I got something out of it. The Howie Madness Scavanger Hunt wasn't unorganized or anything (I don't know where people got that idea, i think they were just mad they didn't win). However, i think there were some really p.o.'d people. And even though our team didn't come close to winning, at least i lost all the weight i had gained from the mid-night buffets!:) Despite the dissapointment in the meet and greet and the night i got sick, it was a totally awsome cruise! I definetly think the DLF should go to Alaska. I heard they might go to Alaska in May of 2002, but there are some problems with that. I missed a week of school as it is to go on this lupus cruise. If they did Alaska in May i wouldn't be able to attend b/c i'm only allowed five vacation days a year. It would probably be around my finals too. I don't know about everyone else, but i had a blast. I met new people and tried new foods. It's amazing how many friends i made like lara and michelle. i can't wait to do it again!

I was on the Lupus Cruise 2001 and I had an excellent time which had nothing to do with the Howie D group. Dream Cruises and tours handelled the cruise and they took my money and they didnt even send my friends plane ticket so she didnt come with me. Then they sent my tickets to the wrong address and did NOTHING to get them for me and I spent three weeks panicking before I went on a wild goose hunt to retrieve them myself. I only went because Nick Carter was suppose to be there and he didnt even show up so I managed to meet tons of people on the boat who I partied with and I didnt go to any of the Howie D events because everything was so unorganized. Im not going to go again next year because all of my money didnt even go to the Lupus Charity and I just thought the whole thing was a rip off and full of false advertsing. Nick if youre reading this U R SOO HOTT!!!! See you on your next tour in Canada baby!

We had a wonderful time on the Cruise to Cozumel, Mexico; Grand Cayman Islands; and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. (To the person who wrote that she met Nick on the cruise. He was not on the boat at all. That's okay with most of the Howie fans that Nick wasn't there -- it did not detract from the fun at all.)

Anyway, it was a fun trip and the Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica were beautiful and we're glad we didn't miss that.

Have a Happy New Year, Everyone!

Dorough Lupus Foundation Cruise 2001

The Dorough Lupus Foundation Cruise was great! Howie, Pollyanna, John, Angie, Hoke, and Paula and many members of the DLF group are truly wonderful people! They are the nicest group of people that I have ever met. I had a great time! But others did not. The way that it was promoted, gave people false notions of what was to happen and then were disappointed when things didn't go accordingly. But it was for a great cause and I am proud to have been a part of it and hope to be again.

It upset me to watch the people and how little respect they had for Howie and his family. Of course we all wanted to have pictures with him and to get his autograph, but there were people who went too far; approaching him for an autograph while he was in the hot tub, I mean come on people there are times and places for those things and that wasn't one of them. Howie is human too and we must remember that.

My only complaint about it all was the fact the I paid for a cruise that I thought would generate the DLF a certain amount of money and I later found out that it did not work out that way at all, and whomever is responsible shame on you.

To the Dorough's: I hope that the cause and a cure is found soon, and I am deeply sorry for your loss. God Bless all of you and Happy New Year! I look forward to seeing all of you again!
