Scott's Millenium Review:

(* - sucks, ** - tolerable, *** - okay, **** - catchy, ***** - powerful)

1) Larger Than Life **** : This was my favorite song the first time I heard it. The techno beat is excellent and added flavor while the electric guitar gave it a rock/pop feel. The tempo is excellent as well and gave it a party dance feel. The lyrics are smart and made sense. Overall, an excellent track.

2) I Want it That Way ***** : Who could not love this song? It's a ballad, it's a love song and it's a farewell song. The strings at the beginning are haunting and gave a lonely feel. The later guitar beats reminded us that this is a Backstreet ballad and the Boys vocal harmony is the best I've ever heard. Kevin's part is equally effective but it didn't sound like him. The lyrics are very sad and poetic. The best track on the album.

3) Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely ***** : A more haunting and sad ballad than I Want It That Way. The violin gave a very powerful nostalgic feel to this piece of masterpiece. The lack of an upbeat tempo (which was present on I Want It That Way) contributed to it's lonely feeling. The echoing is an excellent touch as well as the effective wood instruments used. One could imagine this song being played in a funeral. The harmonizing, again, is supernatural. An unforgettable piece of work.

4) Its Gotta Be You **** : Excellent party music! I love this song even though it reminded me of Get Down. A rare mixture of sultry, seductive lyrics with upbeat guitar beat. This track would have been the bomb if they used more drums.

5) I Need You Tonight *** : Too slow! And I'm sorry but Nick's voice is a bit dragging here. The lyrics were excellent as well as the keyboards but there really wasn't enough here to excite me. Definitely for Nick fans.

6) Don't Want You Back **** : Wow! This song is very witty and satirical. Very enjoyable! The tempo is not as upbeat as Its Gotta Be You but definitely at the right field. I could just imagine the music video for this song. The harp and static were excellent touches and the pseudopiano drum beats were original enough to warrant a very high replay value.

7) Don't Wanna Lose You Now **** : This predominantly string flavored love song is perfect for putting you in the mood. It has a haunting feel to it during the chorus. Again, the Boys use their harmonizing gifts to the max. The lyrics were typical love song poetry.

8) The One **** : This song will really carry you way. The sound was awesome -- the best in the album. They lyrics are very narrative and it felt like you were hearing a song about some romantic movie. This song would be powerful if only they didn't repeat too much of the lyrics. The song is upbeat but not to the extent of a party music. Still, a very worthy track to listen to.

9) Back to Your Heart ***** : The pinnacle of harmonizing, this songs shows off the Boys other talent - song writing. Kevin's keyboard style is original as well as excellent. The lyrics are very poetic. Did I mention how good the Boys can harmonize? This song will make you proud Backstreet fan. A favorite among all ages.

10) Spanish Eyes **** : Soft, lovemaking music. Although, the title is never justified. The strings are used with profession here again - a very Latin feeling. The lyrics are sweet and effective. Howie shows off his vocal power in this track. Excellent love song.

11) No One Else Comes Close *** : A song I couldn't care much about. It's just too soft and slow. The lyrics were notable but nothing new. The guitar is used again with great effects. The chorus felt tiresome. Not a bad song, just a slow one. The "Mmmph" part is a good inclusion.

12) Perfect Fan ***** : Sob. Very, very touching and powerful. The choir gives it a very heavenly feel. The lyrics were smart, effective and relevant. The woodwind and strings were also excellent and integral the only problem I could have with this song is Kevin's voice. Not his best. At least all of them sang.

Conclusion: If you don't have this (yeah, right) then get it. You can definitely tell why this historical masterpiece is a best seller. Backstreet Boys Rules!
