Subject: My VMAs review!

Dear Caitlin,

Pleeeeze put this on your VMAs review page cos I read a lot of negative reviews and I want to add my positive one!

I LOVED the BSBs VMAs performance! It showed everybody how talented they are- how good dancers and singers they are. Now I really want to see the Larger Than Life video as I heard the dance and clothes are similar.

I was really pleased and proud of the boys when they won the Viewers Choice Award. They really deserved it! Their speech was good and they thanked us- the fans- which was really sweet. I felt sorry for Nick for not being allowed to speek!

I also LOVED the boys wardrobe that night. It was different to usual and was really cool. I didn't like AJs top much but, well, we know AJ and how crazy he is! I think he wanted to show off his 69 tattoo! Brian looked cuter than ever and much healthyer than last year which was good. Kevin and Howie looked hot as usual, I loved the braids, a nice change. In my opinion, Nick looked hotter than ever before. I think hes sick of the cute pretty boy image and wanted to try out a different look. Kinda grungy, I guess. But I found it good and I especially liked his hair. I like it long, I hope he keeps it like that. It was a bit greasy looking but that looked kinda nice!

I'm sick of a lot of fans bad reviews and comments about Nick at the awards. He had been ill the week before and was still sick so that was why his singing was a little off. And I heard he had recently split with his girlfriend (he wasnt wearing the ring and didnt have a date) so maybe he was upset or something. Give the poor guy a rest! I feel really sorry for him.

And to the fans saying they were dissapointed and ashamed to be fans- ever heard of Keep The Backstreet Pride Alive?!? Come on, one performance thats a bit different, the guys wanted to try something new and they get this from their so called loyal fans. I can't see why they hated it so much! We on the Backboard have been discussing the so called fans dissing and we think its terrible. And its not just some of the fans, some magazines and websites such as Rolling Stone have been giving the guys a bad review.

And one more thing, who was that weird guy who said Wake Up At 3?!? That was funny! Kevin looked so shocked and Brian was cute and joked about it. Shows how nice and polite our guys are!

~NSB :-)

Hey what's up everyone. Well I just have one word to say, WOW ! ! ! ! ! ! ! I have sat here and read many reviews and I just have a few things to say. 1) Change is good. I know that we are all used to the clean cut look that the BackStreet Boys have. In this performance they did something a little different. I mean look at all the successful people that have made it through the years. For instance, Madonna. You all seen the little show thing that the Drag Queens did. Madonna has been a major influence in them music industry and the reason she was soo successful and is still going on is because she changed with the times. I think that the boys doing what they did for the awards was great. It really fit in with the crowd and the vibe that was in that place that night. Remember, the people that were there were not teenage girls and guys yelling and screaming, they were adults. This really appealed to them and now the BackStreet boys have earned much respect after their performance. 2) The style of clothing. The boys have stepped to a higher level and are moving along. The clothes that they wore really went along with the song. I mean come-on, Larger Than Life is not meant for shirt and tie. Their attire was great and fit in really well. And about AJ's shirt. Well here is a quote that AJ said in the Disney Special, "I look for clothes that other people don't have and wont be caught dead wearing." That totally explains it all. I think that AJ's shirt was tight and showed off his awesome body along with his lovely 69 tat. 3) The was the boys' sang. I do have to agree with most of you. They did not sound their best, BUT atleast they did not do a Milli Vanilli act, like hmmmm N'SYNC, BRITNEY SPEARS or TLC ! ! ! ! ! They were original and did it all their self. And I love them for that. And last but not least 4) The background dancers. I do have to admit that there were a little too many. But it made the dance look a whole lot better and nicer. The dancers looked great. They also dance great. Well that's all I have to say. See Ya!

Subject: MTV VMA BSB Performance Review

Hi Everyone. I've never actually done a review before or even thought I'd go online to a BSB site and write about them! I have been such a huge fan of there's. Now I hope I don't offend anyone....but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But there is more to a performance than what they look like! I mean, I like the BSB because they can sing! And they are not merely just a "boy band." Yes, they are cute but that's not why I like them. I find it really disappointing you can single the boys out and say you hated their performance because of what they wore. You have to understand that BSB were one of the best acts of the night! I mean the whole entire crowd LOVED them! They got standing ovations after their performance and after they won the Viewer's Choice Awards. Think of their performance as a whole. I think their performance in '99 MTV MVA was by far their best. For a long time, the press and media has labeled not only the BSB but all the other guy groups as having sappy pop tunes, etc. But our boys di dn't disappoint us! They came to the awards and performed their hearts off I thought! I mean, they projected themselves with so much attitude. Not to mention they performed with a live band and with their black leather outfits it only accentuated their performance even more....like as if they were saying, "We are the BSB and you have to look at us...." and they got command and all the attention of the whole entire audience. It's like they were telling the media to eat up all the negative crap they've been saying about the boys. I should know cause I was one of the lucky few who got to attend the show! I thought all of the boys looked great! A different look for them but it worked. I do agree with AJ's shirt. It was a wee bit too short, but other than that the only other thing I can complain about is the camera men. When I watched it on tv later on. The camera guy seemed to focus on the dancers more and not the BSB. And it was sort of hard figuring out who was who. I mean, I give them props because I heard the y only put together this performance in one day I think. I mean, by far the BSB performance was one of the best, next to Kid Rock and Eminem. The worst performance by far was N'sync and Spears. I mean, why use a microphone if you are just going to lipsync? Plus, they put the audience half to sleep! They simply embarrassed themselves compared to the BSB! So congrats to the BSB! You guys were awesome! Can't wait to see your new video on Monday!

I was just reading all of the review's that are posted on this website, and i was very dissapointed. All of you that were knocking the performance need to have your head's checked. now granted everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but everyone needs to realize that even though the backstreet boys will always be the same people that they were in the beginning when we all fell in love with them, their music and image must change with the times and with the music industry or else they will just die out. (new kids on the block) as a 19 year old fan who is old enough to remember nkotb, i am glas to see that they realize this. and as their fan's we should support them. I thought that the performance was OUT OF THIS WORLD! IWITW sounded amazing and when they kicked into LTL and they ripped off the leather coats, they layed it down (in the words of dj skribble) the music was edgie, but still the same old BSB and the dance moves were off the hook (go fatima!) now granted, aj needed a longer shirt, and nick kinda needs a haircut, but other than that i thought that they looked and sounded amazing. The leather was a nice touch and i thought that it added to the performance. and as another person wrote...please realize that the dancers were wearing COSTUMES not streetclothes! plus we should all be glad that our Boys sang (unlike some other group that we know) and gave it their all. they were amazing and the performance got me totally psyched to see them in orlando in dec. everyone at mtv has been talking about how impressive the BSB were on thursday, and we as fans need to realize that they are right. so all of you guys that were slamming it, you may want to think about how the music world reacted to the Boys, and realize that they are growing up and we as fans need to SUPPORT them and not trash them. I don't mean to sound preachy, but i just felt like something needed to be said. Love you all and remember KEEP THE BACKSTREET PRIDE ALIVE! BTW... i loved the "crackers with attitudes" comment.

Totally freakin' AWESOME is how I describe the Backstreet Boys' performance!!! Of course it was! Now, let me address the so called "fans" that wrote very nasty and critical comments about thier performance. How in the hell can you call yourselves real BSB fans for saying such things!!!!!!!??? Saying "it wasnt the best performance" would of sufficed, but NO! y'all had to go and bash them! damn! you just can't accept the fact that maybe they are changing thier style a little bit to separate themselves from the "copier wannabes." I thought thier performance, and costumes were soo cool!! So, maybe they were a little off key. Big fat hairy deal! They are entitled to make a few mistakes here and there!! I about died when I saw their leather costumes!!! GORGEOUS and HOT!! Whoa baby!!!!!! The dancing totally blew me away!! Those guys are sooo talented!! Thier performance was by far the most incredible of all the acts! Nstink and Britney "fake" Spears tottaly bit! UGH why would Mtv want those no talent wastes of space on there stage!!?? Thats one of the 7 wonders of the world! "Fave video of the year!!!" YEAH BABY YEAH!!!!!! GO BACKSTREET!!!!! Thier acceptance speech was sooo sweet. Well, to sum up my little essay here: #1 BSB fans should be supportive of how they change or "grow" and not verbally bash them cuz they didnt like a certain outfit they wore. #2 AWESOME SONG,DANCE,COSTUMES!!!!!! WOW!! #3 Nstink and britney suck! Well, gotta jet y'all KTBSPA!!!!!!!!!

Subject: VMA Review

I just finished reading some of the reviews for the BSB's performance at the VMA's, and although I realize that it's all opinion, I have to disagree with the disappointed (or disgruntled, it seems like) fans. I kept on reading about how "the dancers dressed too skanky,""the guys had bad costumes and looked ugly," "they were trying to be something else," and "they should stick to their old image, because the black leather is not them." Well, first of all, the girls this year dressed just as bad as they did at the previous VMAs... don't you guys remember how they all had tight, shorter-than-short, barely-there "dresses" on? The girls were more covered this year, actually. Second, who are you to say that they shouldn't do something because it's "not them"? Madonna's not Indian or Asian, but no one complains about her wearing traditional mendhi and chanting Hindu that she doesn't understand. When it's Madonna, everyone thinks that it's sooo cool and creative of her to try something different, but when it's BSB, then it's not OK? The BSB have said numerous times that they want to keep on growing and reinventing themselves as a group, but some fans just won't accept it, and that's sad... as the Boys have grown into men, I'm sure that they want to explore new heights. You think they want to be stuck in the exact same position, always having to think out every moment of their lives, everything they do, singing the exact same songs, just because they're afraid the fans won't like what they do? Their lives are already hard enough without having to think of that. This e-mail has gone long enough, I just want to end it by saying that the performance was absolutely terrific, and it really showed off what the Boys are all about: great music, great singing, great show.

ok, ok, ok I know this is late, but after reading some of the other reviews {A few speical ones} made me want to write this. First off their performance kicked major butt. Their voices were PERFECT. The dance moves were PERFECT. I loved what Fatima put together in one day. I LOVED the move with the girls putting their legs around Bsb. That was great. Second I was very impressed with the outfits cuz it shows THEY CAN BE DIFFRENT. I LOVED Nick's hair. It shows his personal style for that day. Aj's shirt was a tad bit gay but it was cool cuz that was what he wanted to wear. They all dressed great. Now after seeing them perform I was PROUD to call them My Boys no no no not my Boys my MEN. What they did was diffrent and not them. It was perfect. All I have to say is that if you were ashamed to call them your Boys after that maybe just maybe you need to take a look at why you love them. Cuz if you loved them for the music then you should not be ashamed to call them your Boys. And if your in it for the looks then I'm sorry for ya. I'm autti.

A VMA review by Colleen, Visit my website at http://jump.to/adidab

Like a lot of BSB fans, I was pretty disappointed by the guys' preformance at the MTV VMA's. I think because the whole thing was overhyped everyone was expecting a really mind-blowing show, but I have to say I wasn't really impressed, knowing full well the boys were not doing as well as I know they can. Their appearance supposedly isn't the main important thing, but everyone ignores that and scores them on it anyway. Nick looked horrible. I know he's totally sick of the innocent blond boy part-down-the-middle approach, but lately the 'do's he's been experimenting with kinda make you want to run to the bathroom and puke. This one, basically consisting of pretending he didn't know what a comb was, was no exception, and it didn't help that he looked like a Hercules wannabe in that scrubby shirt. It might only be me, but I'm almost POSITIVE his voice dropped a few octaves since their last preformance. Overall= UGH! I think Howie's braids are really cute, but it's too much with the goatee; it's either one or the other, and I say kill the facial hair. He didn't really stand out in this preformance. Kevin was the most normal of the five, even in that queer flowery shirt. His dancing still makes you laugh, and his singing is nonexistent, becuase they skipped his solo in "IWITW". Brian was the best looking (maybe I'm biased; I've been in love with him forever), but even he needs to get his hair cut. The blondness isn't bad though. But his voice sounded weird, too. I don't know why. But particularly in "IWITW" it was kind of shaky. Nerves, perhaps? I wonder why. AJ looked hot, except for that God-awful shirt! Everyone's been ranking on it, so I feel bad! He probably wanted to be sexy and show off his tattoo, but he'd do just as well yanking up his shirt. That whole "I love you baby" thing was stupid too- make all the teenyboppers slit their wrists or something. The best part of the VMA's? The "Crackers With Attitude" thing aaaand the look on Brian's face when Chris Rock quipped "I wanna see the Backstreet Boy who gets Britney Spears pregnant". I couldn't have put it better myself.

Subject: I can't believe these "fans"

submitted by: Jade Amber   OK, I didn't want to get into this but after reading those reviews I just have to. How can you people call yourselves BSB fans and write reviews like that? I mean true fans are the ones who are going to fight some journalist in Ohio for publically dissing the boys. If you agreed with the fans in that situation how can you get on here and you, yourself publically write cruel things about the boys? I mean discussing their clothes and hair with your friends is one thing; but I myself would be totally humiliated to have one of the boys read a review I wrote dissing their every move. Are you people the same who stood in line or waited on the phone for hours to get tickets and then complained until everyone was sick of it that you didn't get them? If you answered yes, I do have to ask the question...Are you really disappointed about not getting to see your one and only Backstreet Boys or are you simply disappointed that you do not have the opportunity to go to the concert and then submit a degrading review of their performance? I mean, you have to ask yourself why you are really a BSB fan. Is it because you loooove Nick's hair so much? Or, do you love the fact that you put so much effort into keeping the BSB Pride Alive and then having them write a song about how much they appreciate that? For me, it's the latter of the two!

I thought that the BSBs performance at the vmas was awsome, I thought that they could have chosen another style then black leather but hey who can go wrong in tight black leather. Nick needs a hair cut desperately and if he doenst cut it for our concert i'll take scissors to his head myself. He also showed off his tatoo and muscular shoulders! And if the guy wants to head bang let him. Hes a human being after all. Brian looked cute as always and probably the most normal. Not saying that the rest of the guys looked weird, but Bri looked more like he usually does. Aj needed to loose the top im sorry hun but it was just not working for ya. It showed off his perfectly fine abs, but it reminded me too much of something the how britney spears would wear before the boob job. Howie looked kewl too. I luv his new hair. Kevin looked hot but needed to change wasnt working for him either. But overall they looked good. They started singin IWITW kinda funny and Nick was really low, but then when Nick ripped off his jacket for Larger Than Life damn did he look sexy! I have to admit that nsyncs and the hoes performance was a little bit more organized than the guys, but hey they only had one dayto reherse did a spectacular job. Plus nsync doesnt sing live so they can concentrate more on dancing. Fatima still rocks the house over that fag Darren or whatever hsi name is thats the hoes and nsyncs choreographer. They may have needed to get a new wardrobe but its only a show and it was designer clothes who can go wrong not even lil kim. I also have to say that Rene Zellwiger was so high! Well anyways K*T*B*S*P*A

The Backstreet Boys looked so HOT!! We love Brian's hair, the lighter color looks very good on him. AJ looked awesome in those pants and i love the "no socks" look. Howie's hair looked cool. Nick looked so bad, his hair looked like it needed to be washed and what was up with the head banging? Kevin looked ok but is he trying to be like AJ with the tank tops? He is really to old for that. Their preformance was awesome: Brian looked so HOT when he sang his part of IWITW. We loved the begining of larger than life when AJ laughs. We really loved the dance moves, it was fun to watch, i think it shows how multi-talented they are seeing as though they put this together in only one day. Fatima does a great job making them look good. They sounded so good, better than 'N sync's lipsyncing. This preformance was the best that night since the show was pretty lame. We LOVE them so much, and we hope their concert is as good as that preformance, we can't wait to see them. Karen and Kristen

Subject: BSB's VMA Review

After reading the reviews at Backstreet.net I decided to voice my own opinion. Okay so the performance had some setbacks, but ultimately the Boys were great. The costumes were a little...what's a good word?...strange(I'm being nice) and I didn't appreciate the dancers crowding around when I was trying to see my guys, but they sung and danced their hearts out. Lets face it girls as much as we like the fact that the Backstreet Boys are hot and stylish those are not the only reason why we like them. Their raw talent and ability to dance and sing great is what first drew me to the Backstreet Boys and what made me love the performance at the VMA's. Just because A.J. was wearing a crop top ( we all know A.J. HAS to be different) and Nick's hair could light a refinery fire, we can't say the show sucked because what is really important is how they went out there and sang (actually sang unlike some lipNSYNCers who shall remain nameless). They were all full of energy and got me really hyped up. I was not at all disappointed, in fact I thought their performance rocked and was the best one that night. They were full of energy and despite what everyone else says they sounded great. And about the fact that they didn't win best Pop or Group or even Best video....all us fans know they should have one at least one of those, (who decides who wins these things anyway)? They won the Viewer's Choice which shows how loved and appreciated they are all over the world and how many fans they have. In my eyes that was the most important award of the night and I am glad the honor went to the BSB because they deserve it for all they have done for us the fans this year despite the trials and tribulations they have suffered through. I'll close this on one more note. Kev's and Howie's shirts didn't bother me one bit....I was too involved watching Kev's muscular arms to care what they were wearing.

For so long now I was waiting for 9.9.99, then the final day came. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. The 1999 MTV Video Music Awards were not the greatest thing this year. The Backstreet Boys contributed to that. I am a huge BSB lover and support them, but their performance was less then perfect. I liked that they began with I Want It That Way and went into Larger than Life, but they could have done a better transformation. Nick is my favorite, but on thursday night I was a little afraid. I need to know what he was thinking. His hair looked absolutely terrible. Does he have no concept on appearance? Other than that, they did a good job, but it didn't top their "Everybody" performance from last year. That was the best that I have ever seen.

One reason why I might have had a problem with the show is because there was entirely too much going on up on stage. With the 10 dancers, 5 Boys, band and all the activity up there, my eyes didn't know where to focus. I think it sort of took away from their show. They should have cut back on a few accessories.

Other than that, I still remain a Backstreet Boy fan, just a little worried about their priorities and where they are. I hope their US tours goes great, even though I couldn't get tickets! Thanks--Allison
