Yeah, yeah, I know this concert was A LONG time ago...but guess what...I am gonna do a little package of retrospectives. The first installment is this, then we will review the All Access Video, then A Night Out With The Backstreet Boys, and then the original Backstreet Boys album. Sound fun??? Goodie.

Anyway, a quick re-intro, I am Brian the most loved and hated guy on the planet. A third of readers assumed I was Brian Littrell, another third assumed I was a fag and I was stupid, and another third loved me. Go figure. Well...on to the show.

As you already know this concert was taped on New Year's Eve.

The video opens up with a quick couple of things from each boy. Then we cut to the a nice little intro and out pop the boys~! They are in fireworks and AJ lets out a scream and Howie D does his normal "talk to the crowd over noise" routine to open up "That's The Way I Like It." The boys are wearing Fox Racing Gear, well all except AJ who rebelled. Gotta love it. Heheh. Howie D and Kevin do a high five and are prolly saying, "Are you ready to NOT sing tonight? YEAH!" The dancing in the song plain rocks. They do awesome little hand movements. Howie D does a crotch chop. AJ does need to sing, not scream...not to say that is bad cause most of the time the screams sound better, but his voice rules too. A cool little thing with Kevin sticking his legs through his arms makes me LMAO cause it rules. Song ends.

My little brother's favorite "Hey Mr. DJ" is next. AJ has rid of his winter vest and they do an awesome little leg thing which rocks. This version is better than the album. For those of you wondering, on the album, the song is played by a computer, not an actual band. Tommy Smith notes this in one of his FAQs on his web site. He said it sounds better you all should agree. AJ is letting that energy out that makes him AJ. He is doing his share of pelvic thrusts here. Get a room is all I can say, even if it IS for yourself...it'd be put to good use. heheheh. The audience is divided down the middle by Kev and AJ...talk about two guys who rule! AJ does a Michael Jackson crotch grab. I am gonna puke. Nick pours water all over himself. AJ is into it. The vocals on this are great...but the end is repeated a few times too many. Fireworks end the song.

Howie D has returned amazingly after running off last song (note: the show was edited...this really was the second BSB song, not counting the dance mix) for "Just To Be Close To You," in accapella! Kevin's opening is missed, but hey, you can hear him as he bottoms the accapella. AJ delievers a funny line "Take it Nick." Just listen to him. Heheheh. It's cool. Kevin has to feel bad. The other guys go on singing, but he just stands there and does the dirty work...team player. I like Brian, and this is just a random observation, but have you guys noticed that at times, he resembles a chipmunk? Not always...one or two times I have noticed it. I love that song but the version with music is better. Great performance. Real talent proven. (BTW: I think Kevin gets one line..."Clap Your Hands." =)

Solo time...

Howie D's solo is first...it is a B-side to the "I Want It That Way" single. Of course, this is "My Heart Stays With You." Howie is wearing a gray long coat and black slacks. He is cut...I'll give him that. I think Howie has a wonderful voice. This performance far surpasses the one he gave on A Night Out. He takes off half his coat for a strip tease of sorts. Heheh. Girls scream. Does he use 8 minute abs?? He can get high and his voice stays very smooth...it does NOT crack at all. The "Your Rembrace" sounds awesome cause he snorts YOUR. VERY cool. Howie D promises Orlando his heart will stay with them. What about the other 49 states? The guys are singing in the back and it is cool. Howie goes high! That was awesome. The performance rocks.

AJ is next and we all know about this. Heheh. I am gonna have fun with this one. Aj gives off one of the coolest line of the night "What's up Orlando? Right now I wanna dedicate this song to all the beautiful, lovely...SEXY ladies in my house tonight!" This song is called "Lay Down Beside Me" in case you didn't know. Again, on a Night Out, the performance wasn't that wonderful. A minute in, AJ gets off about five consecutive pelvic thrusts. He wiggles the hips. I bet the girls at the concert were in awe. What about all the adults and 4 year olds. "Mommmy, why was AJ doing that?" AJ is on the floor. And he does it! Humps the floor. Hint: DO NOT COPY THAT AT A PUBLIC POOL. LIFEGUARDS DO NOT APPRECIATE. AJ gets a rub on his pecs to end the song. Oh man, that is a tough thing to watch.

Kevin's solo is next. "Nobody But You" is the song. Track 13 on the German Import of the original BSB CD. Kevin has soothing tones...and man, he is a hilarious dancer. Not that that is bad, but this is an awesome performance. He gets down in hilarious fashion. Let me ask you...how did Howie D fall off one of those things on the sides of the stage. They have bars around em. I think Nick THREW him over. It wasn't a friendly hit. I wish Kev would get more respect. Hardly any one screams. This gets me...AJ humps the floor and Kev has 5 year olds screaming "HOE! HOE!" =) So much for family entertainment. =) Heheh. Kevin pulls off an EXCELLENT dance sequence to end the song.

Next is Brian and he opens up with a hilarious "Hello!" Mr. Chaffen (sp) accompinies him here. He thanks every one for there support during his heart surgery. "That's What She Said" is one of the greatest songs ever written, honestly. Brian is playing the guitar, but he is strumming and playing a few chords...doesn't that hurt your finger not using a pick??? I wish I lived out of country and had Backstreet's Back so I could get a CD Quality version of this song. Till now, i am stuck with a Real Audio sound. (Hey, if anyone has any MP3s from Backstreet's Back, email me.) Brian directs the crowd in saying "That's what she said" and it is hilarious. He does it later on too. He gets up and makes the crowd come to their feet. Brian does the other lead and I crack up. He gives a patened Brian smile...funny. Brian is a good guitar playing...but I will have a question to ask later. So look out for it.

Nick is up next. I have always thought his solo "Heaven In Your Eyes" came off the best. out of all five solos. Nick is on a platform with his 50's microphone and his double chin is not there and his butt isn't five feet wide!!! Heheheheh. I am gonna have to say the best part of this song is when the chorus begins and you get a glimpse of Obie on percussion and he is just banging away on everything. It gives me goosebumps. "Cause I see Heaven...." I am gonna go get some food. [five minutes later] Nick is still holding it out. Finally he stops. "OOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!" I go to shower [ten minutes later] "OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH!!!" Heheheh. Why do blondes get the luck??? Steve from 90210 had sex before most of them. Jackson from USA High is a babe magnet. Zack from Saved By The Bell got all the girls. It isn't fair. =( The end has Obie tapping the bells and it is cool.

Nick suggests we pick things back up and that we should have a party! Confetti goes everywhere. I love this song, though the version on a Night Out is better cause it is a twist. Watch Howie wave his arms...I have to say it is the funniest thing. Nick hadn't hit pueberty on the album version...at least by now he is more manly. Brian isn't an awful dancer but I just don't see him as a dancer. AJ gets off a hilarious dance with his arms in the air. Kevin actually has a part in this song, but of course with AJ. AJ's mic goes out. The dance is cool here after the little rap. AJ does another pelvic thrust! Kevin shakes his butt at the crowd. Ewww. But it is funny. The guy gets in to his dancing, don't he??? I think a boy fell over (it looks that way)

Howie D said he wants to do something special and they are gonna perform their first homecoming single "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)." Of course, this was last year's tour so the band screws up the first time. Howie yells at them sorta. TAKE 2: We get a swing version of the song. I kinda wanted to hear that. WAIT, the boys are gonna *gulp* play the instruments...who saw that one coming???? I remember seeing the preview for this PPV when I wasn't a fan and was shocked to see AJ on bass. Nick is on Drums, AJ on Bass, Brian on Obie's Percussion, Howie on Guitar, and Kevin on keyboards. NOw...for my question...why isn't Brian playing guitar?? He already established himself earlier...weird. This is easily the greatest BSB song ever and it will always be remembered as a landmark for our boys. On one take, it is clear kevin wasn't playing the notes, he was doing some loop. Couldn't tell with the other hand. Nick's gone back to his pre-pueberty voice...heheheh. I sorta like it better, anyway. Ont he second chorus...someone's goes really low (they did this on Intimate and Interactive a few years back also) They introduce the band now so they can get off the instruments, cause they don't know the rest. Obie Morant on percussion and he plays a little saxaphone. Tommy Smith on keyboards. Dennis Gallo on Keyboards and acoustic guitar. On bass Freddie Mothers (sp) Billy Chaffen on guitar. Tim Barkenbaw (sp) on drums. Here comes the dance. Watch Howie's face as they switch from the arms to the little STOP thing. Howie does a Kevin dance. I miss the ending from Frankfurt, which was better. But still I like this one, cause this doesn't end the concert.

A great live song, "All I Have To Give," is next with the boys in suits and they stand very still. I think AJ is standing still doing a little excerpt from the "Everybody" dance. The song is good complete with a wonderful dance. It has to be the best dance they do...second only to "Everybody" and "Let's Have A Party" (that song makes me LMAO.) Hey, guess what...KEVIN GETS HIS LINE! Brian is pointing to the crowd, but Kevin comes up, shoves him out of the way, points to himself and shows a pec. Heheheheh. The hat dance is the coolest thing ever...I am serious. How do they perfect this stuff? Okay, I am sorry, but The Butt That Walks LIke A Man has just been shown. If he hadn't bent over, i wouldn't have said that. Okay, he is Nick now. I am going to forget that.

Someone pointed out that you could hear the last note or two of "Darlin'" before "Anywhere For You." "Darlin'" should have been left in. There isn't much to this...just Boys Being Boys. It's just a good song, and I get a kick out of it when Kevin starts singing cause he gets in a dance mood and I LMAO off again! Listen closely at the end...Kevin's voice is visible. It bottoms out the song.

Kevin comes out to open up the next song. He scratches his eyebrows a few times and I have to chuckle. The song is dedicated to the lovebirds in the audience. Kevin does his intro, but it doesn't sound as good. His voice isn't as raspy or as low as on the LP version. The stools are out and everyone but AJ was sitting and he walked out with a towel. Going in to the chorus, the drums are left out, therefore it is a little weaker, but still good. Did anyone notice that in the original Backstreet Boys album screwed up about thirty words??? It says AJ goes "As I walk by will you get to know me?" They need only four stools cause AJ just stands there. Heheheh. This is a classic song and it comes off great. They all gradually make their way up to where they popped out. They ask the fans to say "I'll give you all of me, honey that's no lie." They do it once, Howie cheers cause that is his job, but Kev and Nick suggest they do it again. It sounds the same to me. Then the boys do that one part as the song ends. Obie ends with a sax solo. Well, an instrumental, but you hear him. Howie screams "We are the Backstreet Boys, we'll never break your hearts!"

The music of "As Long As You Love Me" is heard and we see a little girl jumping. In the back, her father is sound asleep! Heheh. Now that is some good stuff right there. Not much to say about this performance. The usual stuff. You all know the song, right? The only thing of note is Brian's reaction when he doesn't sing, but says, "Doesn't really matter if you're on the run." Cousins get a little singing time together...Next Operah. Nick goes "Ooohhh" and hold his mic out...Brian goes "yeahh." They each introduce themselves again and walk off. Nick says thank you ten million times, at least. Howie talks fast and has to run to grab a chair. This the best part of the show. The chair dance. They each take a bow, with AJ removing his glasses. Total style. Obie gets another moment.

Bad editing cuts out the first of "Get Down" but we go anyway. Nick...one word - Stridex. This is AJ in his pride and joy. AJ's rap is awesome. They should have had him on the album. Guess what. He does pelvic thrusts. =) Their dances rule. AJ looks at someone and goes "I SEEEE YOU~!" It is cool. His voice has a distinct accent, but it's not Latino, sounds New Yorkish for some reason. Quick cut to "We've Got It Going On." AJ delievers a hilarious line while he sings next to Kev. He looks at a girl and goes "I can't hear you Ms. Prissy." Brian is gonna be hot under those things...he has to be sweating like a pig. AJ reminds me so much of Donnie Wahlberg from NKOTB. They were bad boys who liked sex. Heh. Only thing is AJ's doesn't have a brother who had a failed music career then did almost as bad in the movie industry. There is an Asian girl there who knows none of the words, but is cute singing the wrong ones, anyway. The boys drop to their knees and get their hands like a prayer. They are up and JUDO KICK! HI YAH! The dances are some of the best. Song ends.

We cut to the video wall where the video for "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" is on. They do the opening clip, then combines the rest of the video, with no words...then they do the end with the boys screaming. Look at AJ's lips flap. Too good. Then, the boys are rolled out in caskets, with the music of the extended version playing. Brian opens the song with his lines and they come out of the caskets. THIS IS AJ RIGHT HERE! AJ does some good singing, but when he screams, I LISTEN! WHo doesn't know at least two seconds of this dance? Why did AJ change "YEll" to "Scream" It sounds completely different...the song seems to change meaning at the line. Brian does "Am I everythingyouneedyoubetterorckyourbodyright" off just like that. Nick replaces "Music" with "orlando." Amazing performance, great song, what a way to go out.

Overall: Good performance...real good in fact. But it doesn't touch A Night Out...cause that video is the bomb. I will do a retrospective on that, if I get around to it.

Nick carter wishes and AJ McLean dreams.

Good-bye.
