Official site posts tour dates for North America

By RICHARD JOHN -- JAM! Showbiz

The album came out in May, but North American audiences will have to wait until the fall to see the Backstreet Boys tour for 'Millennium.'

After weeks of intense anticipation, the band's official website posted the 2.5 month tour itinerary Wednesday.

Kicking off in the band's home state of Florida on September 15, the tour is set to wind across North American, including three November dates in Canada. The travelling show will wind up with two home coming dates December 1 and 2 in Florida.

While the dates have been posted on the band's site, venue and ticket information is still to be announced. MTV, however, is reporting that the three Canadian venues are the Molson Centre in Montreal (Nov. 10), SkyDome in Toronto (Nov. 11), and the Corel Centre in Ottawa (Nov. 12).

In a press release Thursday, tour sponsor Sears announced that tickets for all dates on the 'Sears presents Backstreet Boys Into The Millennium' tour would go on sale Saturday, August 14.

At the end of May, three of the Backstreet Boys met with press in Toronto and discussed the imminent tour. Fielding questions were Kevin Richardson, A.J. McLean and Howie Dorough.

"The stage will be set up right in the middle of the arena. That way everyone can see us in the round," McLean said.

"We have 10 dancers - five guys and five girls - we have a six-piece band. We'll be doing a little bit of ... flying, that's all I'll say. We're just doing all kinds of new stuff. The show has 18 songs. We have a lot of music we have to cover."

He continued, "Basically it's most of the hits off the last album and all the songs, pretty much, off the new album. So it'll be about two hours long, and with lots of really cool costumes.

"We just worked recently with (the people) who worked with Janet Jackson on her Velvet Rope tour, so it's not like your typical, everyday clothing. We've got some pretty cool stuff that was designed specifically for us for the show. We have four different outfit changes."

Since its release in May, 'Millennium' has sat in the Top 5 on the Canadian album chart. The band spent the summer touring the album in Europe.
