I was reading some of the responses to Offspring at Woodstock 99 and considering I was actually at Woodstock myself I thought I would throw in my two sense.

First of all here's exactly what happened:

The singer screams out to the crowd, "We have a special suprise for you all tonight.... THE BACKSTREET BOYS!!!" Then they start playing part of Everybody (Backstreet's back) for about 30 seconds during which the crowd goes wild.

Atleast 4 inflatable dummie's were pulled on to the stage (in the pandemonium I saw only four but maybe there were 5, as there are 5 members of BSB). Although most people were too far away to notice that the objects were anything other than big balloons representing the Boy's, the video screens showed close ups of the faces on the dummy's, particularly they zoomed in on Nick's face.

Then the singer pulled out a big red plastic bat (the kind your little brother plays baseball with) and hit each dummy 1 time so that the dummies were laying on the ground. Then they cleaned the stage and played another song.

Thats exactly what happened. The whole thing took 3-5 minutes of their show which is a noticeable chunk of time. Now if you can imagine a lot of people were screaming. Together the crowds pleasure and the act seems to have caused some upset among BSB fans. Now I will admit, seeing the Boy's beat in effigy doesn't make me happy. But let's look at this from a little different angle.

The Backstreet Boys are such a huge group that even pure rock fans knew who they were and identified the group with that song. I figure at least 100,000 people were standing in the audience. I can tell you that I was in the serious minority being not only a rock fan but also a... gasp... pop fan. The BSB are such a huge act that people who don't buy or listen to their music know their songs. They are such a huge act that another group could actually take up 3 to 5 minutes stage time making fun of them. In other words the BSB are seriously a very dominant presence in our society today.

Now as a fan there is something to be proud of. The Anti-BSB scene got such a reaction from the crowd, but when Fred Durst yelled, "who here hates N' Sync" on Saturday, the reaction wasn't even a fourth of what happened on Friday during the Offspring show. Honestly the most people at the concert probably don't know the difference between BSB and 'N Sync, but don't get upset, most people reading this (as it is on a BSB fan page) don't know the difference between Megadeath and Metallica.

The bottom line is our Boy's are SO FREAKIN' FAMOUS. Everybody knows them. Yeah so some will make fun of 'em. C'est la vie. Life goes on. Don't ever sit there and proclaim that you have never dissed another music group, cause pretty much only nuns can profess to that. So maybe other people get more attention when they dis your group but it doesn't make it any more right or make it any more wrong. Like I said before OUR BOYS ARE SO FREAKIN' FAMOUS WE SHOULD BE SO DARN PROUD OF THEM. Although I am not trying to dis N'sync by saying this, I would like to point out that even they are not as big as BSB which Woodstock 99 proved, at least to me. Not so many people reacted to the disses to them, cause not so many people know them.

Well, thats pretty much all I wanted to say about that. If you want to hear more about Woodstock then you can E-Mail me :-)
