NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--July 22, 1999-- Britney Spears'...Baby One More Time #4

Too $Hort's Can't Stay Away #5

Zomba Music Group, the world's largest independent music company and parent of Jive, Volcano, Verity, Provident Group of Labels and Silvertone record labels, has 3 albums in the top 5 and a total of 6 albums in the top 50 according to SoundScan. Jive Records is currently the #1 label in the country with a market share of 7.9% and in addition to the #1, #4 and #5 albums on Billboards Album 200 chart, the label has #1 and #2 R&B albums with Too $hort's Can't Stay Away and The Wood soundtrack, respectively. The Zomba Group of Labels is the #2 overall group with an 8.75% market share.

SoundScan's year-to-date album sales includes 4 Zomba titles among the industry's top 30 albums, which include the top 2 selling albums - Britney Spears' debut album ...Baby One More Time with a total of 4.15 million and Backstreet Boys' Millennium having sold over 3.9 million in only 9 weeks. The year-to-date sales of the Backstreet Boys' debut album, Backstreet Boys place them at the #20 position with 1.29 million and the #29 selling album is R. Kelly's R. with 1.02 million.

Among the other Zomba Group of Labels highlights:

Backstreet Boys jump back into the #1 position on the Billboard Album 200 chart with their sophomore album, certified 6X platinum Millennium with 271,749 albums. In addition to album sales, the group has 3 out of the top 10 home videos selling this week, which include the 2X platinum Backstreet Boys - Homecoming Live In Orlando at #1, All Access at #4 which is certified 5X platinum and A Night Out With The Backstreet Boys at #6 which is certified 3X platinum. ``I Want It That Way'' is currently the #1 most played Pop song in America according to BDS. The group is currently in Europe on their sold-out tour and will begin their North American tour mid-September.

Britney Spears holds steady for the 2nd week in a row at the #4 position with her debut 5X platinum album ...Baby One More Time which sold 145,094 albums this week. ``Sometimes,'' the second single off the album is currently #5 on the Radio & Records CHR chart. Britney is currently on her sold out North American tour and will be performing on the FOX Teen Awards on August 12.

Too $hort's 11th album, Can't Stay Away, debuted at #5 with a bullet on this week's SoundScan chart and is the #1 selling Rap and R&B album in the country. Can't Stay Away has received critical acclaim; ``Can't Stay Away will have Too $hort fans hitting the rewind button more than the fast-forward one,'' according to The Source Magazine. Rolling Stone has stated, ``Can't Stay Away keeps things straightforward and funky, just the way his fans like it.'' Vibe Magazine adds, ``Todd `Too $hort' Shaw'' will be here forever because he has a formula ... a musical aesthetic that's pure genius in its simplicity.``

The Wood soundtrack debuts this week at #16 with a bullet with 66,517 units. The soundtrack features such artists as DMX, R. Kelly, Marc Dorsey, Blackstreet and Joe. The video for ``Neck Uv Da Woods,'' a collaboration between Mystikal and Outkast, is in heavy rotation on MTV, The Box and BET. In a very competitive summer release schedule the MTV Films/Paramount Pictures, The Wood debuted at #6 with the second highest per screen average at over $7200 per screen in 1200 theaters nationwide.

``Weird Al'' Yankovic's Running with Scissors is currently the #29 album in the country. ``Weird Al'' kicked off his North America tour on July 19 in Greenbay, WI. ``It's All About The Pentiums,'' the next single and video from the certified gold album will ship in August.

Verity Records, the #1 Gospel label, currently has a 20% market share which includes 4 albums in the top 10. The albums making the list are Fred Hammond's certified platinum album, Pages Of Life, the certified gold compilation of WOW Gospel 1999, Richard Smallwood's Healing - Live In Detroit and Virtue's Get Ready. In addition, the label had the top debut on the Music Videos Chart with Richard Smallwood's Healing - Live In Detroit.

The Provident Group of Labels has a 10% market share with 4 albums on the current Contemporary Christian chart which include Caedmon's Call's 40 Acres, FFH's I Want To Be Like You, Clay Crosse's I Surrender All and the platinum album from Michael W. Smith, Live The Life.
