On Saturday, July the 10th, Disney aired their -Backstreet Boys in Concert- special and I wanted to give my review of the songs and segments that aired between. Being a guy, you girls get to see what a person enjoying the MUSIC (not bodies) feels like.

The show opens with some behind the scenes sorta thing. Like about twenty-thirty seconds before the guys run out to sing "Larger Than Life." They have what look like football pads on. I never realized it was Brian who sang, not AJ. But I guess I was wrong. The dancers annoy me from the get go. The crowd seems in to the performance, but I am betting an actual concert is better than this. You get the boys dancing, not the people running around them doing imitations. A good, hot song to start the show off, much like it does in many concerts.

Segment: The boys come out from a subway and talk about what they are gonna do. Frick and Frack go to play basketball, leaving the others.

Next up is "Quit Playing Games With My Heart," which is one of my favorite songs ever. I don't care much for the dancing here cause there isn't much. It's not the same without the boys playing the intstruments. Nick's fat, he'll have to face it. He gets a good reaction as he goes in to his part and puts on a good performance. His voice strains are awesome. By this point I have learned the dance almost. AJ is the man and I love this hair. He does a nice performance as usual as we go into "As Long As You Love Me." Nick sits down on the stae and sings to some girls who are about to faint, I bet. (honestly, the dancing really sucks) The clothing isn't picked right and the camera fails to let us see the entire dancing. Brian does his part and speaks "It doesn't really matter if you're on the run," and does a little shake to get the crowd going. They do a little with their microphone and i think of NKOTB. Brian needs a haircut. I like the bangs, but this is too much for him. They pick their mics up and take them back and the dancers appear and give chairs and here we GO! This is awesome each time. Better than the video. The boys wave good bye and the dancers go for it, and are completely boring me to death. Somebody get rid of them (it is not racist, cause I realize they are all black, but I really don't care to watch them dance...I want the boys to finish the routine)

Segment: The boys talk about being a family and there days as BSB members and stuff like that. AJ says he loves to perform. Kevin says they are a family. Nick hates traveling.

Segment: Nick and Brian go to play street ball and Brian says he played in high school. He says he loves all sports, but is prone to b-ball. Nick and Brian talk and Nick is in dreadlocks. He brings his Nintendo to play. I believe our boys "win"

"All I Have To Give," is next and here come the dancers again! Oh boy! The boys are wearing creme colored suits and I like em. Nice dancing. The usual stuff. AJ is of course the best. It's just his nature. He slaps some fans hands. After AJ sings, they move to a chorus, and move in to the hat routine, leaving Kevin's solo out. Of course. Those stupid dancers are trying to mock BSB. The hat thing is cool. I am gonna do it for the talent show, I think. =) We move to Brian going, "AAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL" and from there the song proceeds as normal, and I have to watch stupid dancers do their own stupid routine.

Segment: Howie says his mom suggested a group. NKOTB was out then, he says. AJ and Howie met at a Latino talent show about ten years ago and AJ won with a forty-five minute one man show. They keep seeing Nick and the three came together. (Nick would have been, what, nine?) They signed to a small label and Kevin came in, but they needed one more member (To make the Jordan Knight) and they called Kevin's cousin, Brian. Nick said he went through the normal teenage life, but had the boys to turn to for support.

Commercial. I must ask, why does DISNEY NEED COMMERCIALS! When I was 7 and 8 (13 now, for those wondering) THERE WERE NO COMMERCIALS~!

Segment: Kevin is going horseback riding and his chaps are VERY TIGHT. He and his brother both belonged to 4H growing up. Go ahead, SWOON LADIES! Kevin gets a horse named Trigger. His first big horse was Amos and his little girlfriend (at the age of 5) used to ride it while it walked around and grazed. Kevin rode bareback and used to fall off. He goes out to the park with Trigger and they dodge traffic. It looks like Abbey Road at one point (you know, the beatles) Kevin says it is different from the country side. Better scenery in New York.

Now, it is track 3 from -Millennium- "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely." Brian opens up and is awesome as usual...though his clothes appear a little big. AJ looks exactly like Obie. An homage to the fallen sax player, I guess. The dancers are back. Shoot me. Please. The song sounds great, but not as good as on the album. Why did Kevin only get ONE line on the previous American album? He has one of the best voices. Kevin and Nick slowly change from one to the other, which comes off good. Howie looks awful with his hair being all scraggly and he is sweating like a pig. He is good though. His voice is normal and not extrememly high during this song. Brian sounds like K-Ci and JoJo (Sorry, I stole Carson's line from many months ago from TRL) More dancers. Kill em all. Wouldn't you hate to be behind the girls who are standing, if you are trying to sit and listen.

Next up is "I'll Never Break Your Heart," and we miss Kevin's opening. =( But AJ's voice is awesome. Brian is simply amazing when it comes to this kind of stuff. There is NO ONE better in music. Maybe Kevin, but that is it. AJ is up to go to the crowd. He is awesome and everyone knows that he is. Anyone notice that AJ can never sit still? He got up and is on the opposite end of where he was and is standing. Brian needs to learn to sing, looking at the crowd. Song finishes to Brian's direction.

Segment: AJ and Howie decide to go shopping. It's difficult to shop, AJ says, and AJ says he loves it though. Kevin and AJ keep up with the latest trends, the best. Howie makes the mistake of looking at women's clothing and saying he wouldn't wear it. Howie introduces his brother John Dorough. Howie got all his hand me downs. AJ finds the hat section of loves it. He buys some shoes. AJ claims to be impulsive (we discovered that when we saw him hump the floor.) They go to antique store, Howie talks about sinks, AJ points to a golden fan and says, "Brian, this is the perfect fan." Howie goes to the Armani store and finds some stuff, which makes AJ happy cause he hates not to buy something. He knows Howie needs something. The go to catch up with the guys.

Here we go with everybody's favorite song "Everybdy (Backstreet's Back)" and guess who comes out first! THE DANCERS! The boys come out, but lack costumes, so it isn't as effective. The DANCE (not dancers) is awesome. AJ has energy as usual, but it isn't the same as normal. The fans go wild for nick's third question. The dancers make the boys look bad. They really suck, BAD. AJ is awesome. The guy just plain rocks. I wanna be a BSB! Kevin isn't a great dancer, I just noticed that. But he sure can sing. Well, the performance lacked costumes and to make up for it, they added friggin dancers. Bring the costumes back and leave the dancers.

Commercial. WHY?

"I Want It That Way!" We come back to the number (6???) smash! Nick goes to the audience for his solo and gets a rose to which he says "Thankyou" really fast. The demo is better, but this is awesome live. Better than the LP. Howie looks exasperated. AJ is awesome. Have I said that yet? KEVIN! He seems so happy to sing...he really does. I am very happy. =) AJ holds back, I think. Howie's legally dead, let's face it. Brian hit some notes during the chorus after Howie. VERY high. But those return to normal. This song is what made me a BSB fan (I am a new one, yes) for sure. I had been one, but this really turned me on. So I owe a lot to it. **** star performance.

Segment: Bowling alley. AJ hits only 7 and says he doesn't bowl, but sings. Nick picks up a spare. Kevin hits a strike. AJ is in the lead. Howie D dances to Brian's singing of "Howie D, Howie D." Kevin says they did many vocal arrangements on -Millennium- Nick says he never sees an end to BSB. AJ wins. Brian's parents were worried about being pulled out of school and he says education is important. AJ, Nick, and Brian were tutored, but Howie finished two years of college and got some degree. Kevin is old enough to have made it to college. AJ's mom is his mentor. Kevin's mom sang in church and so did Brian's parents and one time, Kevin did a duet with his mother. Brian wrote "The Perfect Fan" about a year and a half ago. Brian says it breaks a generation. Brian says BSB isn't just for 9 and 10 year old girls running around. It is for family.

Here is the finale. "The Perfect Fan." It is cool to see the bond between mother and child during this song. Brian is awesome here again. Howie looks better now. AJ sings the chorus with passion (his part) and so does Brian. A choir comes up (not sure if it is the same one as on the LP) KEVIN! Kevin does his bass part beautifully. He is cut short by Brian, but hey, he wrote this, so he can do what he wants. Hey! NO DANCERS! Kevin comes in again! Chorus, which is good with the choir. AJ gets in to it at the end. He has too much energy for a normal man. The choir is in to it. Brian is amazing. Can someone say SOLO CAREER? Or PETER CETERA? Nick gets to sing at the end "Cause mom you always were" which used to be done by Brian (I refer to the first time some one says it) Mothers are hugging their daughters and I love it.

Well, sans the dancers and the lack of costumes and flying boards and a few of my favorite songs ("Anywhere For You" "It's Gotta Be You" "Spanish Eyes") this show really was good. I think it should have been longer considering this was BSB. Anyway, if you missed it, check out the encore. It ranks up there -Coming Home- but nothing has touched -A Night Out With The Backstreet Boys- yet.
