June 1999 - Backstreet Boys

Let's hear it from the Boys

To borrow the slogan from the new Star Wars movie, every saga has a beginning. For Backstreet Boys, it all started in Orlando, Florida.

High school students A.J. McLean, Howie Dorough, and junior high student Nick Carter found themselves bumping frequently into one another at local acting auditions. Out of interest, they soon formed a singing group and roped in two more members -- Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell.

After charming Florida with their sizzling live performances, BSB were ready to conquer the world -- which they did, after signing a record deal and reaping widespread popularity in Europe, Canada, Australia, and Asia. It was only with overseas achievements under their belt that they brought their music home. The result: four Top 10 singles in the U.S., including the No. 1 hit "Quit Playin' Games (With My Heart)."

In 1999, the Boys are not ready to quit yet. Following the success of their self-titled U.S. debut, BSB is now back with a new release -- a Y2K-friendly album appropriately entitled "Millennium" which sold over 1 million copies within the first six days of its release.

The first radio track from "Millennium" -- "I Want It That Way" -- is currently blazing up the charts. Images of the band have also started popping up on magazine covers.

In recognition of BSB's talents, a New York Post review of the album even went as far as saying: "Hype aside, the talented song 'n' dance group from Florida...have earned some major main-street credibility with their new release 'Millennium.' They're red-hot, with some of the tightest vocal harmonies in music."

What else is there left to say except: "Get ready for Millennium Mania!"
