Ok so I missed them saying "Hi" to the DJ's because I was trying to set up my tape but here's where the interview started. It took me forever to transcribe this:

Howie: We're actually doing Who Wants to Be a Millionaire today.

Brian: Yeah today we're doing Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Chio (DJ): Oh really?

Brian: Yep

Kristy (DJ): Brian and Howie both right?

Brian: No Kevin and Howie.

Howie: Kevin and Howie in the hotseat (don't ask me why he says his name in third person!) and uhh Brian and AJ in...

Brian: AJ and I weren't smart enough to make it.

DJ's: (laugh) Right.

Howie: Actually we picked Q-tips first 'cause we didn't have straws to pick from, so we had to pick Q-tips.

Brian: I got the long end of the stick.

Howie: Actually it was suppose to be Nick and I...

Brian: I mean the short end.

Nick: Me and Howie won but...I'm doing a Disney special with my brother tomorrow so...

Howie: So then they had to draw french fries after that so then Kevin grew the uh...

Brian: Grew the?

Howie: Drew the smallest french fry. Yeah, he grew the smallest french fry.

DJ's: (laugh)

Chio: You guys did a great job during the uh, doing the uh, national anthem of the Superbowl this past Sunday but I gotta ask you, um, there was a part there where either A. The sound people messed up cause you didn't here the "O say part.."

Brian: On the uh..

Chio: Or you guys forget the lyrics.

Brian: On "the rockets red blare?"

Chio: Yeah Yeah.

Brian: You know my dad was telling me about that! He said they shot and they panned to the flag or something and then the mics dropped down..

Chio: So they cut, so you guy were singing and they just cut the mics?

Brian: Yeah we were singing the whole time. I dunno what happend.

Kristy: See that was our big debate on the morning show the day after the Superbowl. I said there must be some miscommunication cause the way the music sounded, it's like y'all are waiting for a bridge or something and this big powerful "oh say can you see" and I go "what's happening??!" and then it seems like y'all didn't miss a beat 'cause you know, if something wrong had happend you'd be looking at each other like "what's going on?" So that was our big debate. Chio thought that your mics went out, I thought there was something wrong with the music, and everyone else was like "well ask them when they come on the morning show!"

Chio: Right. So we took calls for like 4 hours, "Did the Backstreet Boys really forget the lyrics to The Star Spangled Banner? Cause there's no way they had to have been practicing...

Howie: All five of them at once?!

Chio: There's like 135 million people listening.

Diego (DJ): Would you like, you guys wanna hear it?

Howie: You have it hear?

Chio: Yeah.

Howie: Yeah I haven't heard it yet.

Diego: Ok. Here you go.

(Absolute Silence)

Nick: Ah look they're smiling they know who it is!

Kristy: Did we lose it? We played it like 4 times that day!

Brian: You're smiling! It is! It is!

Nick: It's like NSync or something!

DJ's: (laugh) Oh no!

Nick: You know it is!

Brian: It's probably NSync at that um...

Kristy: World Series? No.

Brian: Baseball Game.

Kristy: No. No. No.

Nick: Y'all sound really good!

Brian: Yeah, we sound great man!

Chio: Hey, hey speaking of NSync do you guys really hate each other? What's the deal? What's up with that?

Kristy: No man. You're label mates right?

Howie: No it's all good.

Brian: We don't even know each other.

Nick: Yeah.

Brian: I mean some know some and some dont know the others.

Chio: So you guys are like part of the company but it's like, it's like the radio company--we're with the Clear channel and we own alot of other radio stations across America and everyone thinks even though we're the same company that we talk to each other all the time. And we're like best friends with the morning DJ here, in reality we never talk to these people. We never see them unless...

Howie: We seem them at like Award Shows and stuff like that.

Chio: Right. Right.

Howie: I mean we're always cordiol to each other. I mean there's enough around there for everybody. You know, the whole big thing was in the beginning in the early stages with management...

Chio: Right, Right.

Nick: And then it created this whole rivalry thing.

Howie: The media's made it more...

Nick: It's really stupid.

Howie: We wish them the best of luck.

Chio: Right Right.

Kristy: Well they were rumored to be at your January 22nd show in Fort Lauderdale. Did you see them there? Britney Spears and Justin?

Brian: No Britney got lost on the way to the show. She never made it.

Howie: She made it at the very end, quick'n out. When we were pulling out.

Nick: I don't know about Justin.

Kristy: Really? Wow.

Brian: I'm serious. I mean, we're not riding her. But we heard that she got lost.

Kristy: Like her drivers got her lost on the way to your show?

Brian: Well...

Nick: Yeah.

Brian: She might have been driving herself, I dunno.

Kristy: Mmmhmmm

Nick: Either that or it's just a big, you know...

Brian: (laughs) Or her tourbus got her lost.

Kristy: Speaking of driving to you ever drive yourself, or are you driven everywhere you go? Do you have your own cars?

Brian: I love to drive.

Kristy: What kind of car do you have, Brian?

Brian: I have a BMW.

Kristy: Oh nice! And how about you, Nick?

(Star Spangled Banner clip starts to play)

Nick: Oh wait a minute!

Chio: Hold on, here it is! Here it is.

(Play the Star Spangled Banner clip)

Howie: You can definitely hear me though!

Chio: That's it right there!

Brian: Yeah, that's AJ!

Howie: Yeah, AJ! That's what it was! 'Cause they were having a hard time finding AJ's microphone level. That's AJ right there.

Chio: Really? Really?! Ok, so AJ screwed up then. (laughs)

Howie: I didn't know where it was, I thought it was like a part where all of us were singing.

Brian: Tell them why it happened.

Kristy: Yeah cause I was thinking of the reverb or something, because you know how it's delayed?

Brian: Tell them why it happened Howie.

Chio: Yeah tell us why!! C'mon, C'mon.

Nick: You want the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

Chio: C'mon bro!

Brian: Tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

Nick: Alright, well basically you know what happens in the Superbowl is like you know when they're doing this huge event and everything they want you to go in, record what you're going to sing, want you to record what you going to sing lead wise. And everything actually...

Brian: Then NSync..lipsynch it.

DJ's: OHHHHH BRIAN!!!

Brian: No I just messed up!

Nick: They want you to go and lipsynch to it, so we got in a big fight with our management, with everybody, and we said 'we don't wanna sing like everybody'--and basically everybody else in the Superbowl has done that--done it that way.

Kristy: They prerecord?

Brian: 99% of the past 10 years has been done...

Kristy: Really?

Howie: Everyone's done that.

Chio: Ok so something happened..

Kristy: So no one knows?

Brian: We did it live.

Nick: No what happened was we did sing it live..

Brian: And that's what happens when you try to sing it live.

Nick: Cause we've always been strick on..we don't ever want to come off it, we don't ever wanna come off on what we're gonna do...

Chio: That's awesome wow!

Nick: So.. I said mess ups happen, mess ups happen telivison--live or however billion people, no matter what, you know it's gonna happen. That's what we're all about.

Howie: At least we're singing from...

Chio: Right. Right.

Kristy: Wow. That's something else. I think we all just learned a major leasson. I dont' think anyone ever knew that.

Chio: No the coolest thing here is that they're being real...

Kristy: Yeah!

Chio: They're being like 'Hey man ya know, crap happens.'

Brian: We're not the greatest singers in the world, I mean we don't profess...

Kristy: Well I think you're pretty good honey!

Howie: We had the option that day.

Brian: We're just trying to touch people with our music and whether or not it comes across that way is yet to be seen.

Nick: I mean, it's all about soul, that's what it's all about. If you project it through sining--lipsynching something then, it's not, you're not putting any feeling or soul into what you're singing. So that's why we did it that way.

Kristy: So you had no idea this happened? Nobody told you afterwards? Cause I guess they didn't know either themselves.

Howie: Actually, I heard somebody say, like Brian said, somebody said the sound cut off somewhere in it but this is the first time I'm hearing it. I didn't know exactly where it was, if it was all of us group wise or...

Chio: Right. Right.

Nick: That's probably why...it's the first time that's ever happened in Superbowl history.

Kristy: Right! Cause you all were insisten, ya know, to have that. You know how you say you touch some of your fans, I'm telling you--you really, really, really do because when I was--the first night y'all were in Philly two nights ago--I was in the stands and I cannot even explain to you, I'm sure you've seen it. Girls are me, for no reason, are just breaking down into tears because they just...it's unbelievable that you...I mean I know you know this but 22,000 girls in the uh First Union Center and they rooms that are covered from ceiling to floor with thousands of pictures of you, you, and you...and everybody! And they know everything about you! And you had those two wings on the stage, it was like big platform things into the audience--I'm telling you that's the best thing you could have ever done! Because, I know, out of all the other artists I've ever seen alot of them don't get as close to the fans as you do.

Nick: I think that this, I think that this tour, in particular man, we're alittle bit more passionate with the way we're singing too and and reacting towards the fans like you said. I feel that way.

Kristy: Right.

Nick: I mean we look over at each other and everything and I think we have alittle bit more intamacy then we've had in the past and alittle more freedom.

Brian: Well, it's been awhile since we've been on stage period.

Kristy: Right.

Brian: You know, with the last tour and stuff like that, so you know you get different personas and when you see the reaction from the fans it's been a long time since we've even glared into people's faces and had that, you know, been looked at back.

Kristy: Well, does it ever get scary though? Because when you were doing the um, the 100 hours around the world and y'all were in Rio, everybody heard about that.

Brian: That's scary.

Kristy: The 40,000 people outside that hotel was UNBELIEVABLE, I mean, did you fear for lives because of that. I was scared for you! I thought they were gonna tip your bus over!

Nick: I mean, we were afraid, not necessarily for the fans, I mean not their lives but just that there...

Howie: Would be safety. Because alot of times they get trampled over and you know, people, just you know it causes a frenzy when we're around and it's just you know, sometimes I just don't understand it. I mean, I think we're just still, you know, 5 normal guys but...

Kristy: Right.

Howie: It's kinda crazy.

DJ's: (laugh) 5 normal!

Brian: We forget it all the time, I'm serious!

Diego: That's what happens to me all the time when I go out!

Nick: Nah, I mean...

Brian: I think all of us forget it alot. I mean, we just want to go out and have dinner or go out to the mall and then you get there and it's like 'uhhh.'

Kristy: Is that even possible for you? I mean can you go see movies? Can you go out to dinner with your new wife? Do you all hang out with your families?

Nick: You, try to have a normal life.

Chio: You have to wear the glasses and the hat? You know cover up? That's gotta be annoying.

Brian: It doesn't matter what I do! I could wear a black/grey beard or something and they go (in a high pitched voice) "are you Brian?!"

DJ's: (laugh)

Diego: Hey Brian, I gotta ask you. I was talking to a listener and they were telling me on Tuesday night's show, you actually took a taxi to the First Union Center is that true?

Brian: Yeah. We just flew in from Atlanta cause we spent the day off at home and um, our car that was suppose to pick us up to take us to the venue, somebody else grabbed the driver and said, you know claimed to be the person that our driver was suppose to pick up, and um so we just jumped in a cab and it was very, very unexpected, you know, from the fans because we drove right by the front door and I'm looking out the window "Hi everybody!!" If you only knew, ya know?

Diego: But she, even said you had your two dogs with you, is that true?

Brian: Yeah.

Diego: Aw! This girl knew everything!

Brian: Yep!

Chio: Ladies and Gentlemen, live in the studio the Backstreet Boys! Well 3 of them anyway, we got Howie D. We got Nick, we got Brian. Uhh..let's take a quick break, can we take a quick break after a quick commercial? Alright Backstreet Boys live in the studio when we come back after this on the Chio in the morning show on Q102, we'll be right back after more.

(Break)

Chio: We're back with the Backstreet Boys!

(Plays clips of Everybody)

Chio: How hard, you know I've always wondered, how hard is it man, it's gotta be--I know you guys just kicked off the tour but after you do like 30 shows? How difficult is it to be hyped up? And here we go we gotta sing the same songs again? Is that hard for you guys? Do you guys just go through the motions after 30 shows or 30 different cities or do you guys get fired up?

Howie: I think it's the, you know, going into a different city everyday what keeps you like, you know, fired up about it and also after 30 shows uh we're starting to create up some new moves here and there by mistakes...

DJ's: (laugh) Right. Right.

Howie: So that kinda keeps the show energized up, you know, well kinda have a little chuckle at each other and that keeps it fresh.

Chio: Now if you don't mind, uh, put the headphones on real quick because I want you to hear something and I wanna know, this has been going around on the internet, everybody put on their headphones. I wanna know if this is you Nick, making this phone call.

Nick: It is! (to the other guys) Listen to this guys!

(Plays the clip when Nick was DJing and called Britney)

Nick (to the other guys): I said, we wanna talk to Britney we don't wanna talk to you.

Chio: Was that Justin? And was that you for real bro?

Nick: No. (lauhgs) What we did was...That was me. I was on uh...

Howie: You were Kid Nicky?

Nick: I was Kid Nicky.

Howie: Ohhhh you're Kid Nicky.

Nick: I guest hosted a show done in Tampa 93.3...

Chio: Right, that's our sister station.

Nick: The night show. And, um, we were just being crazy. We were just having fun, so it wasn't really Justin, it wasn't really Britney.

DJ's: Ohhhh.

Nick: We put somebody on a cell phone....

Brian: Yeah it was, wasn't it?

Nick: I said you're gonna be Justin, you're gonna be Britney. I said Justin's gonna pick up the phone, he's gonna get mad and then you're gonna, you know, then Britney's gonna be like 'who's that?' and so on, and that's what happened. It was just all in good fun.

Chio: Can we hire you to do our phone scams for us? (laughs)

Kristy: Yeah, do our phone scams!

Howie: Like jerky boy.

Nick: I might do Kid Nicky someday...

Chio: (laughs) Kid Nicky.

Brian: (laughs) Kid Nicky.

Kristy: And I'm gonna wish Nick a belated 21st birthday. Happy Birthday!

Nick: Thank you.

Kristy: And that was really cool that your fans sang Happy Birthday to you in the, in the show...

Nick: Well I thought it was done, then the guys had to do it again.

Kristy: It's your 21st birthday it's gonna last a whole week but lemme ask you: what, ok what does a guy who is sitting on top of the world, who has everything probably, what did you get for your 21st birthday? What did you want?

Nick: Well I don't have everything, I mean everybody thinks you go everything.

Kristy: Right.

Nick: But I mean, you know, besides...

Brian: (makes gulping sound) Woooo.

Nick: Besides 21 spankin's from all the guys

Kristy: (laughs)

Nick: Umm...I mean, it was just, I wasn't really looking for, I really didn't get anything else.

Kristy: Where were you on your 21st birthday?

Nick: I was in Tampa.

Kristy: You were in Tampa. So was your family with you? (Silence, I guess he nodded.) That's good.

Nick: Yeah, my dad and everybody was there...

Howie: Nicky got a birthday party afterwards.

Nick: Well I had a birthday party at a club...

Kristy: Well at least you can say 'well on my 21st birthday I was on a world tour and uh...I was jumping from city to city. It's alot better than most people can say.

Chio: I don't know if this is a sensitive subject or not, but what's your, how do you guys feel about O-Town and your ex-manager and they're trying to sorta make them what you guys were.

Nick: Man, that's so funny man, way back in the day we use to..sorry

Kristy: That's ok (I dunno what he did.)

Nick: We use to, remember we use to?...when we'd come back to Orlando and we'd perform we'd always like give a shout out to O-town and everything? Waaaay back in the day. Not the group, like that was..we use to call Orlando O-town. That's what we use to call it.

Chio: You guys are from Orlando?

Nick: Yeah, the group is originally from Orlando.

Chio: You know Gregg Gumble said, Tampa's own, when he introduced you to the net, I said 'this guys is..."

Howie: Well Nicky's from Tampa.

Nick: Well I'm from Tampa! So I mean..

Howie: The group is based out of Southern Florida.

Chio: Ok, well. Alright, alright. I thought he was...

Nick: It's a combination of Orlando, Kentucky, and Tampa.

Chio: Ok. (laughs) So he didn't totally screw up, so that's cool. I always thought you guys were from like O-Town. But continue your thing about the O-Town thing.

Nick: eh, you know what? To each his own. You know what I'm saying? If he's doing, if they're having fun, if they're talented, if they're enjoying what they're doing, Amen that's all...we wish them luck. You know? But if you're out there and you're not representing, you know, being real and doing those things, then that's when we've got a problem with people. But if they're having fun and being real then that's good.

Brian: Keep your uh, minds and your business outlook-open.

Nick: Yeah (laughs)

Brian: At all times.

Nick: Yes we do advise that (his voice was so cute when he said that!)

Kristy: Yeah (laughs)

Chio: Alright give it up for the Backstreet Boys one more time! (claps) Alright, lets take a break. I know you guys gotta be thirsty. Yeah, Duck bring in some sodas, pay the bills whatever. We'll be right back with the Backstreet Boys on Chio in the morning show on Q102. Hanging out.

(break)

Chio: Backstreet Boys live in the studio on the Chiod in the morning show on Q102.

(plays clips of Show Me the Meaing of Being Lonely.)

Chio: So what do you guys have planned for the future? Did you guys talk about what you're gonna do when the tour ends, or it's all private or...

Brian: We're making another record...

Chio: What are you guys gonna do another record?

Nick: We're actually making it right now.

Chio: Are you serious? Really?

Brian: Yeah.

Chio: Oh that's fabulous!

Brian: Yeah, it'll be out tomorrow...I mean...(laughs)

Nick: What?

Brian: It'll be out tomorrow.

Nick: What?! When?

Howie: We've got a recording bus with us on the road that we're taking out, we're right music out here.

Chio: Well it's always a pleasure talking to you guys. I remember 5 years ago I had you on the show and who would have thought...I think, you guys performed at Egypt night club.

Guys: (laugh) That's right!

Kristy: You remember that?

Chio: There might have been about 30 people there.

Brian: Nick was underage!

Nick: Underage!

Howie: We had to sneak Nick in the back door.

Brian: AJ was too!

Chio: And who would of thought, the massive, uh humungous, uh I dunno what word to describe the success that you guys have uh amounted in the last couple years.

Howie: Thank you.

Chio: That's phat man. And I'm glad I got a chance to meet you guys again. And Brian, Nick, Howie, and tell the other guys to continue success. And uh, thanks alot. You wanna....

Diego: Before you go, Brian can I have your coke can cause I wanna put it up on ebay!

Brian: (laughs)

Diego: I know it's early, but I want that! Can you take a picture of us right here to make sure it's the coke right here.

Brian: What about Nick's Starbuck's coffee?

Kristy: That's the coke right there.

Nick: Man, we don't represent Coke dog!

Diego: Lemme get a picture!

Kristy: Oh wait yeah! Who are y'all sponsering is that Pepsi?

Nick: We don't man.

Chio: One more thing...

Brian: Wait, who does Burger King represent? Pepsi or Coke? Pepsi.

Nick: No Coke.

Chio: Did you meet Howard the Duck?

Nick: Howard the Duck? What's up Howard?

Chio: This is Howard the Duck, he's one of our producers and he's a big fan of you guys. At his house he's got Backstreet Boys posters everywhere...

Brian: (laughs)

Chio: And when we told him we were gonna talk to you guys he was like 'aw, c'mon man just one question!' So I go 'ok.' He just wants to ask you one question.

Howard: Two questions...Actually just one. I'm gonna put you guys on the spot. You think you could sing something for us? Accapella.

Nick: Ooo weee.

Howard: Real quick.

Chio: Whatever you want, name it, 30 seconds.

Brian: (to guys/singing) Looking back on the things I've done?

Nick: I'll sing the melody?

Brian: Yeah.

Boys: (muttering and singing)

Brian: Yeah it'll just be 3-part harmony.

Howie: Ok 3-part harmony.

Nick: It's 3 parts.

Chio: Ok get alittle closer though. Closer to that.

Brian (to Nick): Get closer cause I'm gonna sing soft.

Nick: Ok. Ready? One, two...(laughs)

(They sing the chorus to Shape of My Heart)

DJ's: (cheer and clap)

Howie: Alittle 3-part harmony there. That's the B. S. B.

Kristy: Before you go, I have to ask! Now we know Brian is married, Kevin is married...

Brian: The other 3 are single and looking!

Kristy: Aww yeah baby! What's your phone number?

Nick: (laughs) Howie, watch out! You know what? I'm signing a HUGE NICK on here so they know!

Chio: Alright! Yeah baby! (claps) BSB live in the studio!!

So that's it! It took me 3 hours to type!!
