Kids Wish Network Makes Dream Come True

Afflicted with epilepsy, the Hemby Bridge girl has suffered from seizures and convulsions so severe that they sometimes cause her to lose consciousness. Though the disease is treatable and she is able to lead a normal life, for the most part, by taking powerful medications, the road has been far from easy. But late last month, Kristi and her family found out that they will soon receive a well-deserved gift. Kids Wish Network, a Florida non-profit agency that works to grant wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses from the ages of 3 to 18, announced that it had found a way to make Kristi's wish come true. Later this month, she and her family will enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip to Florida where Kristi will take in a concert by her favorite musical group, The Backstreet Boys, and will have a chance to meet her musical hero, band member Nick Carter. "We're all excited," said Kristi's mother June. "She's told everbody she can about it. This is big for us." The news that her wish had been granted came at a critical time for Kristi and her family. In September her father, Maurice, suffered a heart attack that required surgery. So having four days to enjoy the Florida sun is something the family is looking forward to. The Kids Wish Network tries to grant the wishes of every child around the country it deems to meet the organization's criteria. The network funds the wishes almost entirely by corporate and individual donations.
