The annual pop celebration of the year, the Smash Hits awards took place at the Docklands Arena, London, UK on December 5th 1999. As usual, it was da bomb, especially for the Backstreet Boys who walked away with five awards: Best band in the universe Best non British band Best single for "I Want It That Way" Best video for "Larger Than Life" Best album for "Millennium" The Boys were nominated in other categories: Best Haircut - Nick placed 3'rd Best Looking Male - Nick placed 3'rd Funniest Person In The World - Brian placed 4'th Other winners included: Ronan Keating and Stephen Gately of Boyzone, Solo Singing Songstress Britney Spears, TLC, Scott from boy band Five and H from pop group Steps.
