Date: Nov 14, 2099 A very special thanks to Phatlady and Sarah for their hard work transcribing the conference. You can listen to the fan conference in real audio in BackTracks Male Announcer (Bill from Much Music Canada) “Make some noise for the Backstreet Boys!” Some French being spoken-cannot understand, and then, Male Announcer: What is happening is the Backstreet Boys will be here in mere moments for the fan only press conference and that’s where you people come in. Female Announcer (Anne Marie from Musique Plus): mmhmmm... that’s where you people come in... you guys are getting nervous ‘cause you know they’re on their way, right? You know they're just about to walk in! Male Announcer: Make some noise for the Backstreet Boys! Screaming and more screaming... Male Announcer: AJ, Kev, my main man Howie D is here, Nick and Brian... make some noise for the Backstreet Boys! Greetings are exchanged... (Note: Howie falls on the way to his chair!! - right to his knees) Male Announcer: Boys the table’s yours... fans, the Boys are yours! Kevin: Hi guys. Sorry we’re late, as usual. Kevin: What’s going on Toronto? AJ: Helloooo... . Kevin: Do you guys have a microphone out there they can use to ask questions? Female Announcer: Yeah... I think Bill is just about ready... Male Announcer: Would you like to go first? Always got to be a guinea pig... What’s your name, where you from? First fan: I’m ~~~~~~ from Hamilton and I’d like to ask Kevin a question: I’d like to know why you didn’t sing in the first two albums solo like the rest of them? Kevin: Actually on the first album I had a song all to myself. Yeah from the very first European album... had a song all to myself... I don’t know... didn’t they come out in Canada as well? Howie: I think they had a different version. Kevin: But, umm, I mean, it just kinda happened that way. Ummm, we each have different type voices and uh, and normally when we get a song we kinda already know when we hear a demo or when we’re writing a song whose gonna sing parts. When I wrote Back To Your Heart, I already knew who I wanted to sing what verses on it before I even got in the studio with the fellas, so... just depends on what kind of vocal... thing... we’re going for. Male Announcer: Ho, cool... you just talked to the Backstreet Boys! Anne Marie... Female Announcer (Anne Marie): Somebody here wants to talk to you here... .Hi. Can you stand up? What’s your name? Second Fan: Hi. I'm Meagan Jones from Toronto and before I ask my question I’m here representing KISS 92 and Tarzan Dan wanted me to say hi for him... Boys: Hi to Tarzan Dan... Howie: Did his wife make it in here? Is Carrie here? A.J.: Hey you... Kevin: Hey there she is... did you bring cookies this time? Howie: (laughs slightly) Second Fan: My question is, if you didn’t name yourself the Backstreet Boys, what would you name yourself and why? Anne Marie: Tough one, eh? Kevin: Ooh, yeah... that’s the first time we’ve been asked that. That’s very original. *Long Pause* Brian: Uh, I guess it’s just mean to be that way... Second Fan: Good answer. Thank you. Male Announcer: Talk over here, we’re hangin’ out with someone over here... Kevin: (talking really low into the microphone - late response to previous question): Voice of the ... Boys. Audience laughs... . Third Fan: I’m Rita from Burlington and my question is what is your most embarrassing moment ever, like on stage? Howie: Apart from falling off here just trying to come here (audience laughs)... .I think I fell off a stage once like in Europe doing a concert over there in Germany... there was a part AJ was hyping the crowd saying, Get Down, and me and Nicky (big AWWWWWW from me-totally cute he calls him Nicky) were behind him hiding from the crowd and Nicky didn’t realize I was right behind him and he swung his arm out and I fell off the stage (laughter from the audience)... and uh, lucky there was a big security guard there, big (couldn’t understand here)... .he caught me. Kevin: Normally it's stuff like that... .falling down on stage or losing your pants onstage... .see I lost my pants the first show of this tour onstage... had zippers on the side of ‘em and mine just completely unzipped on both sides... A.J.: Crowd enjoyed it, though... I’ll tell you that... Third Fan: Alright, thank you... Anne Marie: (some fan’s name I couldn’t catch)’s here now. Hi, how’re you doing? Fourth fan: Hi, guys, how’re you doing? Boys: Hey... Fourth fan: My question is initially for AJ, but I’d really like you two/all to answer if you can... .think hard. What is the biggest misconception people have about you personally? Something the press or the public... cause you get asked a lot of questions that are like, the same questions over and over, like what’s the biggest misconception that people have about you? A.J.: I think people still doubt we really sing, people still have... I mean, you’ll see critics that will write articles about us after a show and they’ll be a rock and roll critic or just... not everyone’s gonna like us, but... Fourth fan: That’s as a group, but individually... A.J.: Individually? Fourth fan: Individually... A.J.: Wow... Fourth fan: Yeah individually, like people will say ‘oh AJ you’re crazy, sexy, or not, or... you know what I mean? (guys laugh)... well I can’t say that... you know what I mean... AJ: Ahhh... Ahh... Personally I haven’t been... Kevin: I think people think AJ’s more hard core than... AJ: Yeah... I think because of what’s on the outside they think I feel on the inside but it’s the complete opposite. Fourth fan: What about you Kevin? Kevin: Oh wow... ummm, I think sometimes people without really knowing us people can have misconceptions that we’re arrogant or say we’re cocky or stuck on ourselves, like if we come into a place and we don’t talk away, you know we’re just laid back and quiet, shy, people might think we have a problem or we’re arrogant or something when really we’re just bein’ mellow and stuff... sometimes... Fourth fan: Oh you guys definitely are not... Anyone of the other guys want to answer, or... Howie: same thing. People don’t realize that actually meeting people every day if they hang out with us sometime for half hour, hour, “wow, you’re really down to earth people”... I think it’s like Kevin says, just because you’re in the limelight you have to be stuck up or arrogant. Fourth fan: Nick, Brian... nothing really? Brian: Um...A problem I have dealing with, or not really a problem, it just comes with it, is people expect you to be “on” all the time, like, since you’re a performer, and your an entertainer, you always have to entertain people, so 5:45 in the morning, and you’re showing up, and you’ve been on the bus all night long, travelling 6 hours, and you throw your hat on and you run through the lobby of the hotel and kind of go a different way, a back way, so you don’t have to deal with the 800 people that are in the lobby... people, they kind of project you like, “well, why can’t they come in here”, you know? We’re just normal people, but... Fourth fan: Everyone wants a piece of you and you just can’t give it and... Brian: It’s just tough because... Fourth fan: Everybody thinks... Brian: Everybody expects you to be on a stage constantly sometimes... sometimes you just want to leave it alone and be normal. Fourth fan: That was a real hard question, thanks guys... Brian: That’s a real hard question... (said with really weird expression) Fourth fan: Thanks... Brian: Thanks, appreciate it... Male Announcer: Now down in front we have ~~~~ from (no clue)... .~~~~, what’s your question, buddy? Male fan: How do you know who’s going to sing a song? Male announcer: Yeah, how’s that divided up? Kevin: Basically when we go in the studio or when we’re writing a song we’ll have ideas about who’ll want to sing what, but a lot of times when we work with different producers or writers we’ll all take turns singing verses and just figure out who fits the best to that song (teamwork, ain’t it grand? LOL) Male Announcer: That okay, man? Kevin: Alright, thank you, ~~~~. Good question... what? You have another one? Male fan: I like the Backstreet Boys and I have two of your tapes... Kevin: You have two of our tapes? Kevin: Excellent, thank you... . Male Announcer: Everybody here likes the Backstreet Boys... we all in agreement? Screams galore! LOL Female Announcer: Alright, ~~~~~ here. Where are you from? 6th Fan: I’m from Toronto. Female Announcer: Alright, what’s your question for the Boys? 6th Fan: First of all I wonder if you can wish my friend Saida Happy Birthday, she’s turning sweet sixteen... Kevin: What’s her name? Saida? 6th Fan: Saida... Boys: Happy Birthday... Kevin: Happy Birthday, Happy sweet sixteen... 6th Fan: And my question is do you sometimes feel that your expected to be people you’re not to impress your friends? Kevin: Umm, I think Brian covered it awhile ago... I think sometimes... we’re only human, we’re just like everybody else, we need our own quiet time, we need to be, you know, away. We need a break sometimes, uh... in this business when you’re a celebrity and blessed with the success we have, it’s like you’re on stage all the time, 24/7, when you go out to a ball game, when you go out to dinner, when you go to a movie, you know, it’s hard to turn off the Backstreet Boy and just be Kevin and just be Brian and just be yourself and enjoy a movie... because it’s hard... you don’t want to be a bitter person, you don’t want to not give someone an autograph but a lot of times when you’re in a big place and you kind of got your hat on and you’re lowkey and nobody knows you’re there and one person comes over and boom and everybody’s buzzing and you kinda, you know... you just have to make a balance somehow to find privacy and quiet time to yourself... I guess... does that answer your question? 6th Fan: Yes, it did... thank you... Male Announcer: Back on this side now... see this is going pretty good, back and forth... Female Announcer: mmhmm, left and right... Male Announcer: It’s working... Kevin: It’s going good... go ahead... 7th Fan: Hi, I’m Tonya, came all the way from Vancouver to see you guys... .um, this is kind of a fun question: If you discovered a new star in the sky what would you name it and why... this goes to Nick ‘cause we haven’t heard from Nick yet... Somebody (no clue): Speak up Nick... Nick: Um, I don’t know, that’s a hard question... Brian: Well think of something - audience laughs Nick: ... call it the Howie Star... Howie: I like that... Laughter in the audience... Nick: Nah, I don’t know, probably something to do with our generation or you know, something special that’s happened in everybody’s life, probably after someone that’d died. 7th Fan: Okay, thanks! Female Announcer: We have ~~~~ here from Montreal... . 8th Fan; I’m not from Montreal, I’m from Quebec City... Female Announcer: Oh I see... I’m sorry... 8th Fan: There’s a difference. Do not insult the people from Quebec. I don’t have a question, I have a comment for... don’t laugh, my English isn’t very good, okay... and my comments is from all the fans from Quebec City, not Montreal, Quebec City. It’s frustrating you find the time to do a concert in Ottawa but not in Quebec City, the place that was once yours. You don’t seem to realize that the fans in Quebec love you before all the other fans. By the way, AJ and Brian, read your thank-you notes in your latest album and try to get what you forgot..um, could you please say hello to the fans in Quebec City please? Kevin: What was the thing with the album and the thank-yous... Brian: Yeah... 8th Fan: You forgot to thank the fans, Brian and AJ... Boys (talking at once): Oh... we did?... (they all kind of lean back in their chairs as if really surprised by the comment) Brian (judging from the funny noises he makes when he slips up): Oofph... Wow! AJ (judging from his raspy low voice): That’s not good... (whispering, and talking heard in the background in the audience)... well I definitely do think we thank the fans by far, I mean, from the first album to now, and beyond, I mean, there’s been a massive change in the amount of people that have turned around from being Backstreet Boys fans or not being Backstreet Boys fans to now coming to our concerts and I mean, I’ve spoken for many people that may be a brother or a sister to a Backstreet Boys fan that thought that we sucked and they would drag their brother or sister to one of our concerts and they became a Backstreet Boys fan, which I think is cool, I mean, we want everybody to like our music but... sorry... I ... gee..forgot... I’m sorry... but... definitely say Hi to all the fans in Quebec City, not Montreal... Female Announcer: You can say hi to the fans in Montreal... (I think trying the lighten the mood by joking) Kevin: As far as not going to Quebec City... there’s places all over the world where we haven’t even been yet and you guys have to understand something... there’s only one Backstreet Boys and it’s very very hard to get around everywhere and we’re coming back on tour in the Spring so, I mean, that is not to say we won’t come to Quebec City but we have to spread ourselves out to get to everybody so you guys have to be patient and bear with us and understand and be supportive of that. Female Announcer: And hey, look at what you’re doing for all these fans here today, right? And Bill has a fan... Kevin: We’re not perfect, we’re not perfect... Male Announcer: Bill has a fan? Bill IS a fan... Female Announcer: Bill IS a fan and has a fan as well... Male Announcer: This is Chadney from Toronto, all the way from Toronto. She’s standing on a chair, okay? Well, Chadney, what is your question for the Boys? 9th Fan: Are you writing more songs? Kevin: Are we what?... Are we... 9th Fan: Are you writing more songs? Male Announcer: You've dabbled in it. Do you plan on writing more? Kevin: Oh yeah... . Howie: For the next album. This album here we’re getting ready to release our third single, Show Me the Meaninng of Being Lonely and then probably one or two more singles and then we’ll get into the studio, write some more music, record some more stuff, and hopefully see a new album out by next summertime, so... Male Announcer to fan: Are you happy with that?... okay, be careful stepping down there you... . Howie: thank you Male Announcer: Anne Marie... Female Announcer: Yes, we have... 10th Fan: Jacqueline, from Mississauga. Female Announcer: What’s your question? 10th Fan: Um, for the new millennium, what are your plans with records and stuff like that? Brian: You mean CDs out? 10th Fan: Yeah, what are your plans for the new millennium? Brian: What are our plans? We actually decided to take the New Year’s off, we’re not going to do a New Year’s show. I’d say 5 of the 7 years we’ve done New Year’s specials or shows so this year we’re just going to lay low and maybe spend some time with our family, but next year we have a tour scheduled in in February and March, like Kevin said, and then when we finish the tour, we’ll go back in the studio and make another record. 10th Fan: Okay, thank you! Female Announcer: You’re happy with the new record? She probably knows Millennium by heart. Bill, who’re you with now? 11th Fan: Hi, I’m Lorraine? from Mississauga. Hi. I'm with my sister Karen. My question is over the past 6 years together, there must have been some challenging circumstances you had to deal with. What did you find the most hard to overcome? Howie: I think... probably answer that individually... there’s so many things we had to overcome, especially within this last year and half, two years. I mean just healthwise, Brian going through this, um, heart surgery, deaths within the families, trying to get respect from the music industry, with everybody else out there also dealing with the management change we really had within the last year, um... there’s been a lot of trying times... trials and tribulations we’ve been through, especially this last year and a half, but I think it’s made us stronger as a group. I think, you know, we’re the closest we’ve ever been. The five of us, you know, we have each other’s backs. We know there’s constantly people around us... and in the beginning phase, you always thought those people were always going to be there, and people we could trust and count on but I think within the 5 of us came to realize we’ve got to trust within each other first (AWWWWWWWW lol). People may come and go. They’re will always be the five of us. (AWWWWWWWWWWW... does this bring tears to your eyes or WHAT? lol Man are those guys overdue for some huggies or what? lol) 11th Fan: Okay. I can tell cause I’ve been a fan since the very beginning and as individuals and musicians, I’ve seen you grow. Thank you. Howie: Thank you... .(Others nod their thanks) Female Announcer: I’m with a trio of fans here... Trio of Fans introduce themselves... Female Announcer: Okay, what’s your question for the Boys? Trio: We wanna know why Nick is so sad... (okay, this is so cute). Yeah, why aren’t you talking? Brian: Why you so sad Nick? Nick: I’m not sad... . Brian: He’s sick... Nick: I’m sick... Kevin: Nick is a sick as dog... One of the fans in the trio: I love you... I love you all... . Female Announcer: Alright, thanks a lot guys. You got somebody over there, somebody over here actually... .hello... 15th Fan: Hi, I’m Christine from Fort Erie. And I just wanted to know where do you see yourself in the next five years from now? Do you guys think you’ll be together? *Pause* Kevin: Who wants to take that? I’ve been running my mouth the whole time, so somebody else take it... Nick why don’t you take it? 15th Fan: Yeah Nick... let’s hear from you... (she says this very slowly - as if unenthusiastically - but that's just the way that she talks. Everyone laughs because she sounds SOOO enthusiastic (sarcasm) about wanting to hear from Nick) Everyone laughs Nick: ...Okay (very funny - cause he sounds kind of hesitant because of the way she said her comment) *Note* - the BSB are finding that very amusing - especially Brian Brian: She said that all enthusiastic. Yeah Nick let's hear from you (he is imitating her). Nick: I think a lot of problems that happens with groups and things is they don’t communicate (wow... amazing how tight they are). I think what Howie just said we’ve established a really good friendship with each other (sniffles) and that’s what’s going to keep us together. I think individually we have goals. I think as individuals there are things we’d like to do and we’ve come to the realization that we can help each other achieve those things. I think that’s the best... WAY to stay together. I really think we’re going to be a group forever, I mean honestly. They’ll never be an end to the Backstreet Boys... .that’s just my opinion. 15th Fan: Do you think music will be your goal for life? Nick: I think so. Kevin: Music’s always going to be a part of my life... it’s gonna be a part of our lives, because we’re such fans of music. We love music... all different kinds so it’ll be a part of our lives forever. 15th Fan: Okay... Female Announcer: How’s that? It'll never stop coming, hmm? Always new music from the Backstreet Boys... Kevin: Yeah, you’ll be sick of us... hehehe... Crowd: Noooo!!! Kevin (joking): Well remember that - we'll remember you said that. 16th Fan: Hi, my name is Amy and I’m from Burlington and my question is for Kevin: What do you think about being the world’s Sexiest Pop Star? Some laughter in the audience... Male announcer: She's talking about People magazine this week. Kevin: It’s flattering... Brian: Kevin, tell us how you feel, alright... yes please (with weird kind of accent) More laughter in the audience... Kevin: (very funny - he starts running his hands through his hair, and acting as if he thinks he's so great) Well ah...you know... (Becomes more serious) It’s flattering. I was very surprised, very shocked... it’s nice. 16th Fan: Okay, thanks... Female Announcer: What’s your question? What’s your name? 17th Fan: Um, my name is Joanna and I’m from Winnipeg. My question is what is your favorite Christimas song, and when are you guys or have you though about bringing out a Christmas album? Kevin: White Christmas is mine, Bing Crosby... Nick (barely coherent): Frosty the Snowman... 17th Fan: Nick said Frosty the Snowman... Kevin: (sings something) Howie: What’s that? Nick: You can’t say that though... Brian: Mine would have to be O Holy Night 17th Fan: That’s mine, too... . Female Announcer: What about AJ and Nick? AJ: I’m still trying to think of one... uh, gee... he (Kevin) took mine, but I gotta think of something different, um... Brian: “Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus... Nick: Oh I know what I like... didn’t Bruce Springsteen come out with a Christmas album?... 17th Fan: He has one... kind of a rock and roll one... More talking at once... (This is funny. All the BSB are kind of muttering to each other - they are taking this Christmas song thing VERY seriously) Howie: Rocking ‘round the Christmas tree? Kevin: What did Bruce Springsteen do over for Christmas? Brian: “Santa Claus is coming to town... " Kevin and A.J. kind of all join in at various times - but they are all off in their own world and Brian is singing in a really weird voice - it sounds terrible. - but it is funny) Nick: Yeah that’s the one... 17th Fan: Yeah that’s the one... and very cool shirt Howie... (he is wearing a shirt from Roots, a store) Howie: Why thank you... Screams from the audience... . Brian then stands up and flashes the front of his shirt (it is Roots as well) 17th Fan: Oh I like Brian’s too... Howie: We’re lucky we got to be at the opening of the big Roots store in Montreal yesterday. Roots has been very good to us here in Canada and also in America, so we’re very proud to wear their clothes. 17th Fan: Thanks... . Kevin: (joking) Official sponsor... Brian in funny voice: Plug it... AJ: Backstreet Boys plug it... Male Announcer: Christa's hanging out here. Now we've had people from the West coast, and now someone from the East coast. 18th Fan: Hi. My name is Christa and I’m from St. Johns New Foundland. I have an easy question so you can be thankful... what is each of your own favorite Backstreet Boys songs? Nick coughs... Howie: Off this album, or any album, or...? 18th Fan: Any at all... Howie: Hm... . Brian: I would have to say, The Perfect Fan... The other BSB are SOO deep in thought about this one - you'd think they'd know Brian: Whoo! This is hard... (sarcastically) Audience laughs... Male announcer: Nick still thinking...Howie? Howie: It’s a toss up for me. I’d definitely have to say All I Have to Give or Spanish Eyes. Those are my two favorites. Kevin: Don’t Wanna Lose You Now or Show Me the Meaning... AJ: 10,000 Promises or Don’t Want You Back... Howie: Now turned into your two favorite songs... (aside to Nick) You got two choices. Male Announcer: Nickolas Nick: Ah, ummm..I think Show Me the Meaning... probably one of my favorite songs... Male Announcer: You happy with that Christa? 18th Fan: Yeah... Brian: What’s your favorite song? 18th Fan: Perfect Fan, thank you... Brian: Oh cool... Howie: Brian will be very pleased to hear that... Brian waves his arms around in excitement and makes funny face. OMG he is silly. Audience laughs 18th Fan: (laughs) Thank you... Female Announcer: People coming from Edmonton now... how are you? 19th Fan: Good, thanks. I’m Judy and this is my daughter, Marissa. We would like to know what hopes and dreams you still have left to fulfill? Brian: Oh, wow... Just like your standing there with your daughter, I’d love to have a daughter of my own. That would be a dream of mine. Kevin: I’d like to have a family myself, um, eventually when (Brian: you need a wife first) I’m too old to tour around and stuff I’d like to just have a house somewhere and sit in my basement or studio, write music for the rest of my life. So having a family and a wife, yeah, gotta have a wife to do that... A.J.: That would help... Howie: I would like to win a Grammy, that’d be something... that’d be cool for us... American Music Award AJ: I think it’d be cool to have an album completely written by just us five, just completely written and composed by us five... that’d be cool... Nick: I think, um, raising ... I just wanna play basketball (audience laughs) Brian: You’re gonna play for the Raptors? Nick: I’m gonna play for somebody... don’t matter... Female Announcer: Alright, thanks guys... Male Announcer: Right in front, right in front here we have Caitlin and Jasmine. 20th Fan: How many of you guys have tattoos? *Long pause* Nick: Okay, Howie show ‘em your 50. Howie: I don’t have one... I’m sorry... Kevin: Howie’s the only one that doesn’t have any... Howie: ... scared of needles... AJ: I definitely have some... Male Announcer: I think Jasmine has a part two to the question... 20th Fan: Where are they? (audience laughs) Male Announcer: Whoa whoa whoa... .How old are you? Nick: Hey Kevin... Male Announcer: They gotta be taking off their clothes for that kind of stuff-we can’t be doing that here! Audience member screams “Yes!” Male Announcer: Oh okay, just in the arms then... Brian: ... it’s right here, but I’ve added to it so it’s bigger... Nick: I’ve got one here and one on my back... Kevin: You can’t see mine... Male Announcer: laughs... AJ: Mine are just everywhere from my bellybutton up... they’re just everywhere so... Howie: The only way I’d have a tattoo is if we all have the same one and no one’s come up with a design yet... A.J.: We're just gonna knock him out and pin him down... Nick: Good idea Howie, Let’s do it! Male announcer: ... and where are you over there? Female Announcer: I’m over here... Male Announcer: Anne Marie? Female Announcer: Hello... 21st Fan: Hi, my name is Laura. I’d like to say first of all (Boys: Hi, Laura) before I ask my question is say thank you. You’ve been a big inspiration in my life. If I ever had a problem in my life, I’d put on your CD and it feels so good for someone to tell me, “don’t worry, everything’s going to be okay”. My problem just seems to go away... and Kevin I heard you hurt your arm in Colorado. I’d like to know how you are... Kevin: I’m doing much better, but I haven’t been wearing my sling... .ah, I separated my shoulder snowboarding on a day off so it’s been frustrating. I’ve been performing with a sling on and I tried it the other night without it with choreography and I kinda reinjured it so I don’t know if I’ll perform with or without the sling tonight... I wanna do it without because it’s so frustrating, like I feel useless up on stage ‘cause I can’t do all the choreography but I’m singin’ so... 21st Fan: Take care of yourself-we don’t want you to get it worse. Kevin: Thank you... 21st Fan: Yeah... Female Announcer: And what’s your name? 22nd Fan: My name is Jennifer and I’m from Pittsburgh. I just want to make a comment, like I just wanna say my grandparents listen to you, and my dad... he goes around singing songs and I have to tell him, “that is the wrong songs” and my brother, just turns the TV off as long as I could, and he’s “Jennifer, Backstreet Boys!” and I run downstairs to the TV and I just want to say I love you guys. Thank you, bye... . Boys: thank you... Kevin: I'm glad your grandparents like us too. Male Announcer: Back over here... hi? 23rd Fan: Hi, I’m Erin from Thorn Hill.. 24th Fan: ... and I’m Nastasha from Richmond... Kevin: Hi... 23rd Fan: And I just wanted to ask, what do you guys think about the fans in Toronto now that you’ve seen us and heard us... All the BSB start going: Eh! eh! (Ah, making fun of us Canadians - too funny!) Howie: I’m excited to be back in Toronto... actually saw a Toronto Maple Leafs versus Buffalo... actually saw one of their first games here in Canada, and uh, I like Canada. I think I’ll come back here for vacation... Kevin: Yeah, it’s a beautiful city, crisp and clean and fresh... it’s like a little New York but cleaner... Howie: but bigger... AJ: I’m just keepin’ my fingers crossed that nothing happens to me tonight because for the last 2 years something’s happened to me in Toronto so I hope nothing happens tonight... Kevin: We’ll put him in a body cast, somethin’ ... AJ: ... just let it be the other leg this time. That's all I ask... 23rd Fan: Well, what about the fans? AJ: Fans’ great!... loud here. You guys are really loud here. Kevin: For me, I mean, it’s kinda awesome and we have a lot of fans here because we’re gonna be playing the Sky Dome here for the second time and I guess, it’s a huge crowd... I can’t believe that there’s gonna be almost 40,000 people in there tonight. I mean, our fans here have been very supportive all over Canada... this is where it started in North America and we haven’t forgotten that. Male Announcer: Thank you... . 23rd Fan: And Bill’s really cool letting us ask this question... Audience laughs Female Announcer: iDid he make you say that? Male Announcer: Well I gotta ask one... no, you're being funny now... what I gotta ask is, you’ve been here in Canada a lot and Toronto too. You’ve made friends while you’ve been here. Whenever you come back, do you keep in touch with people that you’ve made friends with here? Do you come up here and hang out when you’re not working? Brian: Just this afternoon I contacted a friend of mine... he played for Ottawa University actually in Ottawa. Nick and I played some basketball with him, the guys at the university... last time we were up here and we just met him. He’s working now, graduated school and working here in Toronto so we just bumped into him this afternoon and played some basketball, so... Female Announcer: And I heard you were golfing in Montreal yesterday... Brian: Yeah it was freezing... Kevin: Trying to... Female Announcer: Yeah... which one of you was golfing? Kevin: That would have to be Crazy Brian... . Female Announcer: Yeah, you’d have to be... to play golf in the fog and cold and... did you score well at least? Brian: Uhhh, I’d played crappy and took the last hole... Female Announcer: Well, you played a good hole last night...we have Madison here... hello... 24th Fan: Hi, um... (very cute little girl) Kevin: Hi... Female Announcer: What’s your question? 24th Fan: What do you do when you have free time on the road? Kevin: Brian plays golf in the icy cold weather... Audience laughs... Brian: Do you mean after the tour or on tour? Howie: On tour... Kevin: Just play golf, play basketball, go to the movies... AJ: Go shopping... Howie: This tour’s actually been really cool for us ‘cause we’ve had, we’ve been able to have the luxury of playing multiple nights in a couple of places and having days off, like over on the west coast of the states we went cattle hurdling one day... went snow skiing... Kevin: ... went snowboarding and separated my shoulder... Howie: ... went to football games... AJ: ... dyed our hair Kevin: We’ve gotten to go to professional games, like basketball games and football games. It’s been great. This tour’s been a very laid back tour. We’ve gotten to do a lot of things in our free time, so... Female Announcer: Thank you, Madison. Brian: AJ can’t have too much free time cause then he’ll change his hair, get ANOTHER tattoo... Laughter Howie: Or get his foot run over. Female Announcer: Again... Male Announcer: Hello... 25th Fan: Hello, I’m ? from Stoville 26th Fan: ... and I’m Karen from Mississauga ... each of you have your own fashion sense. I was wondering who are your favorite designers? Howie: Ummmm... Brian: Fruit of the loom (audience laughs)... Nick: Fruit of the loom, nah that’s Howie’s... I’d like to say I don’t wear too much designer stuff. I’m always wearing sports stuff or jeans... I still haven’t gotten into that phase yet... the other fellas... Male Announcer: What do you like AJ? AJ: Um, anything from like... Nike to, Dolce & Gabana or Versace or Armani or something like that... just something that’s comfortable or something that nobody else’ll will wear like a cowboy hat with leopard spots that nobody’ll wear, you know or...I like different stuff... Howie: I like Roots. (joking) A.J.: eh he, plug baby... Kevin: ... and Sears Howie: Yeah Sears. And Polaroid. Kevin and A.J. (laughing) Yeah Polaroid Nick: Yeah Polaroid if we can wear it... good Brian is laughing a lot at this and kind of shakes his head like 'I don't know these guys" - very funny Brian: It's an infomercial!! Audience laughs. Kevin: Um, I don’t really look at the label. I just wear whatever I like, whatever catches my eye, you know... don’t really look at the label, so... Fan: What cologne? Do you guys have a favorite? A.J.: (I have no idea what kind of cologne he said) ^^^^, And I'm fresh out of it. Howie: That's a hint. A.J.: No, I just need to go get some. Kevin: Um, a fan actually got me some D&G (Dolce & Gabana) and I started wearing it, and I’ve been wearing it now for about a year so I like D&G... it’s pretty cool. Howie: I like Cool Water Nick: I don’t wear cologne that much... anymore Howie: (laughs) He doesn’t wear cologne... Kevin: What’s your scent, Nick? Dial soap. Nick: It's me. Kevin: Just the raw me. Other guys laugh Brian: I don’t wear cologne either... I haven’t for like 2 years. * Nick and Brian give each other a high five. Brian then smells his own armpit and makes a face. Audience laughs. Brian quietly says something about body odor Nick: We (Brian and Nick) wear deodrant, but... Howie: The natural scent... Audience laughs... Female Announcer: Hi, what’s your name? Fan: Hi, my name is Charmine and I’m from Winnipeg and I have a question. My question is: do you feel competition from any other bands (serious coughing in the background) like 98 degrees? Howie: No, not really. We’re very fortunate we’ve been able to be first ones to come around and bring back the style of music back to, you know, pop music and we’re flattered that these groups came after us. We were lucky we were able to break the doors down and start a new confident style of music to come back and we feel like there’s enough fans out there for everybody. To each his own. We wish them the best of luck. Fan: Thanks... Kevin: We’re just focusing on... Howie: Backstreet Boys... Kevin: ... us and our music and that’s what we’ve been doing since we’ve been together, so... Female Announcer: Bill you up there? Male Announcer: Right up in front again... who are you, what’s your name, where you from... and you have more of a comment... you were saying... Fan: Hi, I’m Sabrina from Niagara Falls... Boys: Hi... Fan: I just want to say that, um, it was my wish through the Children’s Wish Foundation to meet you and this is the happiest day of my life... Boys: Awww... thank you... Applause... Kevin: That makes us feel good... that’s the kind of stuff we like to hear... Applause... Nick clears his throat, coughing... Another woman with a different girl: I just want to say the same thing. I’ve accompanied my sister here today and she had the privilege to meet you. I’m... (get very emotional - kind of starts to cry). Boys: Aww... thank you. Woman: On behalf of her, thank you guys, like you’re sitting here, you’re very down to earth and you’ve made her... I grew up... I’m a David Cassidy fan... (Boys: laughs and acknowledges that)... now you know my age, but you've made her just ... complete... and she loves you Nick... Nick: Thank you. Boys: Thank you... Howie: That means a lot to us... to see our music touch people’s lives, you know, bring happiness to families and homes. You know, unfortunately we’re not able to meet every single person out there we’d like to, especially terminally ill kids. We try to meet as many as possible, and it’s very gratifying to hear you guys say that to us... Woman: A special thanks to AJ’s mother because she made this really happen for her, so... A.J.: Thank you. Kevin: What is this angel's name again? Woman: Stephanie. Boys: Thank you Stephanie... thanks for coming. Female Announcer: Thanks guys... what’s your name? Fan: Andrea from Thornhill... um, I just wanted to know that since it’s Remembrance Day today, do you plan on dedicating anything to the veterans of the wars? *Long Pause* Kevin: Um, I mean... I was watching a special, like we got here like..what time did we get here this morning? Like 6 am-5:45 this morning? (Brian: Early!!) Went up to my room, I was flipping the channels and I was watching a documentary on the history of how Canada lend their support during the war and everything and everybody was wearing... what is it? A poppy (Fan: Poppy... )... Yeah, so I was like, remembering seeing... what do you guys call it here? (Fan: Remembrance Day... ) Remembrance Day... we call it Memorial Day, they were saying it was 11th hour, 11th day so I didn’t even know it was officially Memorial Day until you’ve just told us that it is Memorial Day in the U.S. as well... I don’t know, we should do somethin’ Howie: Yeah, we'll probably say something up on stage. Kevin... I don’t know... yeah, probably do something tonight onstage... Fan: I just want to say I love you guys so much... Boys: Thank you... Female Announcer: Thank you. You have a question? Fan: Yeah, I’m Haley from Thornhill... I just want to say I love your hats both of you, AJ and Nick... Nick: Thank you... I just threw it on... Fan: and who in history with each of you or that you’ve met has inspired you the most? Brian: a class of people or that we've met...? Nick: or in general... ? Fan: Well in general... like in history, like whoever you’ve met who’ve inspired you... AJ: I have to say I never was inspired when I was younger but now that I’ve met him ... he's left a really good taste in my mouth, he's very down to earth, I have to say Steven Tyler from Aerosmith because it’s really cool to sit down and talk to him as if you’re one artist to an artist but then when he’s around like my mom or our families, it’s a parent to a parent, so he’s very real, he’s very much like us. He has kids of his own that are fans of us and I’m definitely a fan of his daughter, so... (some laughing in the audience) he’s a really cool guy. I would love to stay friends with him for... awhile... Female Announcer: He probably inspired you for the leopard print. AJ: Yeah Kevin: Gee, I don’t know... I grew up admiring and looking up to my parents from things they’ve raised me up to believe. My mom I really admire her a lot-she’s a very strong woman, um, since she lost my father. She’s been a very strong, very incredible woman... so, my mom... . Female Announcer: Thanks guys... Nick: (interrupts) I got one thing to say. There’s a couple of people who have inspired me in my life and it’s these four guys... these four guys... these four other guys... AJ: Thanks Nick, we’ll pay you later... Thanks bro... Howie pats Nick on the head. Nick: Nah, I’m serious! Ya’ll inspired me! Kevin: Thanks little bro! Nick: They’re like my big brothers. I’ve never really had big brothers so... Kevin: We raised him. A.J.: We're the raisers. (laughs) Kevin: Raised him on the road out of a hotel... Nick: Since I was thirteen. A.J. Thanks bro... Male Announcer: I think that kind of leads into Rachelle's question who is right down here in front... uh, Rachelle, go ahead... Kevin: Hello Rachelle Fan: Ah, do you act like brothers? Kevin: Yeah, we fight like brothers... AJ: We talk like it... . Howie: We have fight like brothers... Kevin: We have fight like brothers... we are... pretty much... brothers. Howie: We’ve shared some of the best years of our lives, you know, last 8 years almost... seeing Nick from the age of 12 to the age of 19 where we are now, seven years later, some of our best years... we’ve had our chance to grow up... seen a lot of things, traveled the world and see it all together... it’s like family. Kevin: Done some crazy stuff together... you wouldn't believe it Howie: Yup... you don’t wanna know... Kevin: You don’t wanna know... Thanks, ~~~~ Female Announcer: We’re up to a couple last questions. What’s your name? Fan: My name is Melanie and I’m from Calgary and I wanna say Hi to all my friends back home and I was wondering how much of a challenge it was to learn some of your songs in different languages and if you plan to do it again? Howie: Well, I’ve been, since day one, being of Latin descent, I’ve always talked to the group or translate a couple verses, songs in Spanish and we’ve probably decided to do I’ll Never Break Your Heart and I’d Go Anywhere For You. We had a Spanish translator come in and actually break down the phonetics and... so for me it wasn’t as challenging and some of the other guys took Spanish in school so it wasn’t as challenging but it wasn’t as hard as it was doing another song we did, um, which one was it?... Quit Playing Games With My Heart in Italian. That was a challenge for all of us, I’d say... Fan: Thank you... Kevin: We all learned to sing by imitating what we heard on the radio so we can imitate accents and stuff pretty good, so... Fan: Thank you very much... Kevin: Thank you... Male Announcer: From Vancouver, Dorianna has a question. Fan: Hi... Male Announcer: Hello you... . Fan: I just have to tell you guys, AJ and Howie, my cousin, Alissa, loves you so much... just wanted to tell you that... Male Announcer: She doesn't love the other three? Fan: She loves them (A.J. and Howie) the best! Male Announcer: It's not a contest... Howie: Tell her thank you... . Fan: But I love the other three, I love you guys all... Kevin: It’s all good, thank you... . Fan: My question is if you could bring anybody back from the dead, from any time what would you do with them? Howie: What would we do with them? Audience laughs... Fan: Like to spend a day with... Audience laughs Male Announcer: You told me it would different than that... you worded it better before though... Fan: Okay... Kevin: That’s kind of morbid... Fan: No I mean anyone from the past that you think is interesting that you’d spend the day with? AJ: I’d bring back Frank Sinatra so I could do a duet with him someday... definitely Kevin: I’d bring back my dad Howie: I’d bring back Elvis (audience laughs)... (Nick: You took mine.) I think that’s where I learned my hip moves from... .you (aside to Nick) wanna way Elvis as well? Nick: Yeah, I’ll think about it in a minute... (points at Brian to say his answer) Brian: I don’t have a clue, to be honest with you... I mean, I don’t know (laughs)... I mean, loss for words... Nick: Can’t think of anybody... Howie: You’d want Kurt Cobain... Nick: Oh yeah... .I’d like to bring back Kurt Cobain... Male Announcer: Has anybody ever asked you that before? Boys: No... . Kevin: They’ve asked us, like... Howie: ... similar... Kevin: ... like any celebrities past or present we’d like to hang out with, but not bring back from the dead (audience laughs) Howie: Resurrect them... Male Announcer: Thank you, Dorianna. Thank you to everybody here... Female Announcer: Thanks guys... Male Announcer: Thank you very much you guys... Kevin: Thank you to all the press, Thank you all Toronto... Female Announcer: Thank you... Male Announcer: We are going to watch the show tonight... A.J.: Have fun tonight you guys... Howie: Thank you... Male Announcer: ... back to you, in the station Buddy... Howie: Thanks, Buddy... thanks guys for stopping by and hangin’ out with us... .
