- Date: Oct 06, 2099 Backstreet Boys to abandon Jive Records? According to Billboard Online, the Backstreet Boys attorneys sent Jive Records founder Clive Calder a letter claiming their contract is void. Reportedly, the letter also states that the label is in breach of contract, and consequently the group is leaving the label. This legal action, which may seem shocking, may not be so surprising considering the recent announcement from 'N Sync that they are leaving BMG and jumping to Jive. It has been widely reported that the Boys left their management company last year partly because the company managed 'N Sync as well. It's hard to predict at this point what a break from their label would mean to fans, as the Boys are currently on tour promoting their latest album, Millennium. It seems safe to assume, that unlike 'N Sync, the group wouldn't have to push back any album release dates, however, legal wrangling of this nature has been known to tie up groups for years. The Backstreet Boys are currently holding tight to the number two spot on the Billboard pop charts, having sold over 7 million copies of Millennium. At press time the Boys representatives at MSO gave us a friendly "no comment," but check back with Noise as this story will surely develop.
