- Date: Oct 06, 2099 Monday October 4, 4:48 pm Eastern Time Company Press Release MTV Unveils the Nominations for the 1999 MTV Europe Music Awards Britney Spears & Backstreet Boys Top List of Nominations Ronan Keating of Boyzone to Host Show LONDON--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Oct. 4, 1999-- Performers Include Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Sean Puffy Combs, Whitney Houston, The Cardigans, Marilyn Manson, Jamiroquai & More MTV Europe today revealed the all-star line-up and nominations for the 1999 MTV Europe Music Awards. The list of top international artists was revealed at Home House, London by Brent Hansen, President & Chief Executive, MTV & VH1, and Ronan Keating, Host of the 1999 MTV Europe Music Awards, in the presence of Irish performers The Corrs and nominees Westlife. The show will be broadcast live around the world from Ireland's premier music venue, The Point in Dublin on November 11, 1999. Performers at this year's show will include: Britney Spears, The Cardigans, Mariah Carey, The Corrs, Jamiroquai, Marilyn Manson, The Offspring, Sean Puffy Combs, Whitney Houston and Underworld. Guest presenters will include: Pierce Brosnan and Denise Richards, Carmen Electra, Christina Aguilera, Des'ree, Eternal, 5ive, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Gary Barlow, Jay-Z, Jovanotti, LL Cool J, Armand van Helden and Mary J. Blige. Additional presenters will be announced in the run up to the event. Commented Brent Hansen: ``This year's awards is going to have the strongest performer and presenter line-up we've ever had, and I am confident that this is going to be the best show we've ever broadcast in the history of MTV Europe. We're proud to provide such a great showcase for existing and emerging talent, and especially this year to be doing so from a country with such tremendous musical heritage.'' The 1999 MTV Europe Music Awards will comprise 10 performances and 17 individual awards. The nominations for 11 of the awards have been compiled by MTV Europe's voting ``Academy'' of 800 people, consisting of key figures from the European music industry and MTV viewers from across Europe. Every year, MTV aims to raise awareness of key social issues with the special Free Your Mind award. The award is based upon the ideals of MTV's global Free Your Mind campaign, which aims to encourage freedom from all kinds of intolerance and prejudice. The Free Your Mind award highlights these principles at the MTV Europe Music Awards and is intended for any individual organization which exemplifies these ideals. In 1998, the award was presented to B92, the independent Serbian FM radio station by Michael Stipe of R.E.M. Previous winners include: The Landmine Survivors' Network, Amnesty International, Greenpeace and The Buddies and Carers of Europe. A limited number of tickets for the MTV Europe Music Awards have been made exclusively available to fans and viewers from October 4, 1999. Ticket box office numbers were revealed exclusively on MTV Europe at 2:00pm GMT/3:00pm CET on October 4, 1999. As in 1998, all tickets are expected to sell out within hours of going on sale. MTV can be seen in 300 million households across 83 territories. Each network has localized programs reflecting the language, culture and attitudes of the youth audience it serves. MTV's international channels are MTV: Music Television (U.S.), MTV Asia, (South East Asia, India, Korea, Mandarin), MTV Australia, MTV Brasil, MTV Europe (European, Central, South, Nordic and UK/Ireland), MTV Latin America (Northern & Southern) and MTV Russia. MTV also has two ``free form'' music services, MTV 2 (U.S.) and M2 (Europe), which feature videos from a wide variety of genres.
