Date: Jan 31, 2006 Upstaging those Boys Lucy Carne and Edmund Burke 29jan06 THEY may have sold 87 million albums, but it was nine-year-old Danielle Logan from Logan City who stole the show when US superstars the Backstreet Boys hit Brisbane yesterday. Singer Nick Carter, who turned 26 yesterday, was serenaded at the band's Brisbane Entertainment Centre sound check by Danielle, who sang Happy Birthday. "She's the star of the show," he told band members and crew, before turning to a beaming Danielle to thank her for the song. "You sang beautifully," he said. Starstruck Danielle said her mum Annette had introduced her to the Boys. "I love them. My mum is as excited as I am that they are here in Brisbane," she said. "Ecstatic" fan Ashlee Scott greeted the band at the airport this week and has spent the past three days in the same Brisbane hotel. The 32-year-old Bray Park solicitor is also following them across the country to attend all their Australian shows in a "once in a lifetime opportunity . . . I haven't counted the cost of it all, because I don't think I really want to know . . . but I've also flown to New York to see them". In the first show of their first Australian tour, the band last night turned the Entertainment Centre's crowd of 11,000 into a sea of glowstick-waving hysteria. The Florida five-piece delivered their signature choreographed moves as well as their hits, I Just Want You To Know, Quit Playing Games and Everybody. Having arrived in Brisbane on Thursday, Carter, Howie Dorough and Kevin Richardson spent a few days soaking up the sunshine on a chartered boat in Moreton Bay, while A. J. McLean and Brian Littrell played golf at Robina. "It's been an absolute blast, it is just so beautiful here. We have had the best time," Richardson said.
