- Date: Aug 16, 2001 By Renata D'Aliesio Journal Staff Writer Thirteen-year-old Molly Wright tried to wait patiently on the sidewalk for her friend to return from the Ticketmaster outlet inside a Smith's supermarket in Northeast Albuquerque. She stood outside the market with her father and two girls she met while waiting in line with about 60 others - half of whom were adults - Saturday morning for Backstreet Boys tickets. Wright had been there since 7 a.m. And three hours and 15 minutes later, the knowledge that she would soon have tickets to her first Backstreet Boys concert was just too exciting to contain. "I never thought this would happen," Wright exclaimed to her father, jumping up and down. "I can't believe it." This will be the Backstreet Boys' first concert in Albuquerque. The pop band is scheduled to perform at the Journal Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 7. News of the concert date was first posted on the Backstreet Boys' official Web site July 31. Nicole Brown, 15, and Aimee Brewer, 16, said they haven't gotten much sleep since then. "I have been waiting for this all through middle school," Brewer said to Brown as the girls waited with Wright. "Do you think we'll get good seats?" Brown wondered. Friday night, Brown and Brewer drove by the Smith's supermarket at Academy and Wyoming NE almost every hour to see whether any fans were going to camp out all night for tickets. It turns out no one had to because the line's order was determined by a lottery system. Tickets were also sold online, over the telephone, and at other Ticketmaster outlets in the city Saturday. Five hours after tickets went on sale at 10 a.m., just 450 general admission seats were left, costing $35 each. Seating capacity at Journal Pavilion is 12,000, half of which are in the lawn area. At Smith's, the first one into the Ticketmaster outlet happened to be Wright's friend Ashley Hiben, 13, who, along with her mother, bought tickets for Wright, Brown and Brewer. The ticket sale limit was eight. It was a good week for Hiben. A few days earlier, she won tickets to see her favorite band, 'N Sync, perform in El Paso on Aug. 27. "It's been her lucky week," Wright said.
