NEW YORK (Variety) - Teen-pop juggernaut Jive Records, home of Britney Spears, 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys, has inked a deal with Nickelodeon to develop acts and distribute records for a new label formed by the kids cable TV behemoth.

Under the multiyear pact, Jive and Nick Records will team for A&R (artists and repertoire), marketing, promotion and distribution of joint-venture releases worldwide. Meanwhile, Nickelodeon will back up the music with on-air advertising and other marketing efforts.

The first album due out under the agreement is the soundtrack to the Paramount/Nickelodeon Movies feature "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius," due out Nov. 6. Jive's 13-year-old pop prodigy Aaron Carter will provide several tracks for the project.

Expected in February is the debut album of nascent pop act Nick Cannon, formerly a member of the cast of Nickelodeon comedy "All That." Cannon will also star in and executive produce "The Nick Cannon Show," bowing on the cable network this fall.

The combination of music and television appearances will be par for the course under the new deal, with Nick and Jive capitalizing on the similarity of their audiences, said Albie Hecht, president of film and TV entertainment for Nickelodeon, TV Land and TNN.

"This is a dead-on demo for some of the most rabid music fans you can get," Hecht told Daily Variety. "We'll be able to use all of these different venues to build brands and develop artists."

The two companies have already developed a working relationship: Nick is sponsoring Carter's "Aaron's Party" summer tour. Jive and Nick Records are also planning a joint release of a CD maxi single of music from the cartoon series "SpongeBob SquarePants."
