In regards to the article from Music.com:

If you notice, the article says that Pre-orders by retailers (stores who put albums on the shelves to be bought by fans) for the 98 Degreees album was around 2 million. That means that there were 2 million albums ordered by the stores and put on the shelves. Then the article says that the fans around the world only bought 270,000 of those 2 million albums sitting in the stores. That means that after the first week of sales, there were still 1,730,000 98 Degrees albums in all of those stores to hopefully be bought by fans after the first week was over.

The supposed 5 million pre-orders of the Backstreet Boys album by retailers (stores offline and online) is simply a great sign that stores around the world are expecting fans on and offline to gobble the album up, and they are simply trying to prepare for that. It does not mean that 5 million albums have been bought by fans already or that that is how many albums will be sold in the first week. It simply means that the stores are prepared to sell that many if the demand is there.

Any way that you want to look at it, the 1st day and 1st week numbers will be affected by both the Pre-orders and the In-store sales, so we should be concentrating on the Pre-orders leading up to the album... and then making sure that everyone is ALSO in the stores to gobble up the albums off of the shelves. Either way, the only thing we can be for sure of is informing everyone about the album in the best possible manner. None of us will know anything for sure until those official numbers come out.

Let's concentrate on doing our part and not worry so much about the numbers. There are going to be estimates and guesses all over the place, so we should not worry about that and concentrate on what we are trying to do. We don't want the whole world outside of the Backstreet World to think that all we care about is breaking a record. We want the world to know that this album is going to be awesome for any Pop music lover and give them a way to check out the details. That is our job. We want people to appreciate the album for what it really has to offer....Awesome Music
