- ![]() Date: Aug 18, 2000 We spoke with Bill Gray at Burger King Canada yesterday and he updated us on the BSB/BK promotion which is slated to begin on August 28. The merchandise has left the factory in Michigan and is on its way to a Burger King near you. They have started sending out promotional kits to the media and some television commercials have already aired in select markets. The commercials will begin airing on a regular basis starting August 28. Radio stations are likely to start teasing fans this coming Monday. One of the commercials depicts the Boys in an executive boardroom meeting with the president of a giant corporation. The "boss" wants them to do a TV commercial. They don't want to. They act as if they're way to cool to do TV spots so the boss says something like "How about Whoppers for life?" and in a flash they cut to the Boys on stage flanked by cheesy plastic flames (they flame broil everything at BK) singing, dancing and wearing BK outfits, complete with hair nets. It's supposed to be quite funny. Another commercial involves a helicopter delivering a Whopper to the Boys in their limo and the last of them, a commercial targeted at kids depicts the Boys in a BK restaurant morphing into their Cyber Crusader characters. It's interesting to note that the commercial will not air in Canada because BK could not get approval from the Advertising Standards Council of Canada. All we know is that it did not seem to meet the criteria they use to approve commercials targeted at children. Instead, they'll air new spots highlighting the Cyber Crusader figurines. Go figure.
