'I think it is high time that we give back to our fans what they honestly deserve -- which is to be closer to us and to be a part of our lives as much as we are a part of theirs.' NEW YORK, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Random House Children's Books' Delacorte Press imprint has acquired world rights to publish the first and only book authorized by the Backstreet Boys, presently recognized as the biggest pop group in the world. Entitled, BACKSTREET BOYS: The Official Book, the 128-page hardcover is a photographic scrapbook showcasing the work of Andre Csillag, the band's official photographer, who has had unlimited access to the group since 1995. It is illustrated with nearly 300 exclusive, full- color photographs, which are being made available to the public for the first time in this book. BACKSTREET BOYS, which carries a suggested retail price of $14.95, is scheduled to go on sale nationwide on Tuesday, July 5, 2000. Delacorte Press is planning a first printing of 500,000 copies to meet the demand of the band's millions of eager fans. ``Because the members of Backstreet Boys are ordinarily extremely private people, I am quite pleased to be able to open up this photo album and offer the fans a glimpse into this private world,'' says photographer Andre Csillag. Andre and Backstreet Boys created this book as a special thank you to their millions of fans. Each photograph in the book features a caption written by one of the Backstreet Boys -- Howie, AJ, Kevin, Brian or Nick. Together the exclusive photographs and captions provide an all-new, intimate look at this pop band sensation. The Backstreet Boys' latest release Millenium is already certified twelve times platinum in the U.S. and has spent more than 45 weeks on Billboard's ``Top 200 albums'' chart (the majority of it in Top Ten). In addition to receiving gold and platinum awards in 45 countries, Millenium was recently honored with five Grammy nominations including ``Album of the Year.'' Since the release of Millenium, the Backstreet Boys-Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, A.J. McLean and Kevin Richardson-have set precedents with a sold-out 42-city European trek and two sold-out U.S. tours including stops in such venues as the 70,000 seat Atlanta Dome. Beverly Horowitz, VP, Deputy Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Random House Children's Books, acquired the book in cooperation with The Jelly Baby Group and Andre Csillag. Delacorte Press editor Diana Capriotti will edit the book. Random House Children's Books is the publisher of numerous national and New York Times bestselling books by or about teen celebrities including, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ricky Martin, figure-skater Tara Lipinski, and gymnast Dominique Moceanu. ``We are thrilled to be giving Backstreet Boys fans an intimate look at their favorite group, from the band members themselves,'' commented Horowitz. ``This book is certain to become a collector's item among the group's many devoted fans, because there's nothing else like it.'' Delacorte Press is an imprint of the Random House Children's Books division of Random House, Inc., whose parent company is Bertelsmann AG.
