Backstreet.net's open forum on the engagements: Good, Bad or Both?

We believe that since this topic is no longer in the realm of rumor and has been widely announced in the media, that it is an appropriate issue for BSB fans to discuss here on the site. We are a little dismayed by some of the responses and surprised by others. The truth is that there are some fans who hate the idea of the Boys getting hitched and others (we believe them to be in the majority) who are just plain happy for them. Our problem is that many people on both sides of the fence want us to avoid posting the other side's opinion. We have been asked repeatedly to take down the negative posts while preserving only the positive ones. We won't do that. We'll either leave it alone or completely remove it from the site. How will we reach a decision? That's easy... we're going to poll our readers. Look for it in the next couple of days. Here is a letter we received from one concerned reader and BSB fan, Sandra: Dear Backstreet.net: As we all know, Brian and Kevin are engaged. This is definitely news that should be posted on your website because it is big news in "Backstreet World." But may I ask, why have a message board center for this topic? Is it really needed? You and I both know that there are some "fans" out there that cannot accept the fact that the Backstreet Boys do indeed have personal, private lives once they come off that stage. I went through and read quite a few, not so nice posts. I expected it because some "fans" are quite immature. Why then would you open a forum devoted to this topic? I am almost quite certain that you have posted that Backstreet.net would never discuss their personal lives. Then what do you call this? You gave people an open forum to discuss it. Nothing like sticking your foot in your mouth. Like it's not bad enough that MTV let "fans" also post on the matter. How do you think Brian, Kevin and their fiancees would feel if they by some chance, decided to log onto the web some night after a show? And then they think "Hmmm, let's check out that Backstreet.net" hen they click on that link leading to the forum discussing their private lives, which you have said yourself, would never elaborate on or even post anything about, and they read all those negative comments about the women they love? Bet it would make you feel like you've let them down and that those who posted the not so nice things have also let them down. I am disappointed in Backstreet.net for this reason. It was one of the very few places on the web where fans could go and not have to read anything negative about the girlfriends and focus on what's really important, the music. People tend to lose sight of that much too often. I, for one, am extremely happy for Brian and Kevin. They are two wonderful men who have brought so much joy into my life for quite a few years. Seeing them so happy and in love makes me smile. Whatever makes them happy, makes me happy. If anyone in this world deserves any happiness, it's them and the rest of the Backstreet Boys. Congratulations Brian and Kevin. May your lives be forever filled with lots of love and happiness :) A true Backstreet Boys fan, Sandra Comment on this item.
