Thanks to the Smith family for sending this in.

A wish came true Friday for Courtney Allen as she listened wide-eyed to a member of the Backstreet Boys sing her favorite song.

"Her eyes were as big as saucers. She just glowed," said Bea Ryan, a Southern Oregon coordinator for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Courtney, a 7-year-old girl who has been fighting cancer for five months, had asked the Make-A-Wish group to bring the popular boy band to Medford for a visit. But her rapidly failing health prompted Make-A-Wish coordinators to seek a telephone call from the band.

Kevin Richardson was reached during his vacation and he called Courtney from Florida. The two chatted for about 30 minutes.

Richardson sang a rendition of "I Want it That Way," talked about his family and told Courtney he would have her favorite band member, Nick Carter, call soon.

In addition to Make-A-Wish's efforts, Ryan said the band received hundreds of e-mail messages from KTMT-FM (Beat 93) listeners who heard about Courtney's wish during on-air spots Thursday.

"It was phenomenal," Ryan said. "And it was this community that made it happen. We got the word to the band, and that's why they called."
