I am more attracted to their voices than anything else. Sure, they are cute and I'm not saying they aren't. The first time I heard them was when I was sitting in my dad's car. It was "We've Got It Goin On" I was smitten! They had amazing voices. I went on a search. But I couldn't find anything anywhere.

I waited four years without ever seeing them. They are amazing vocalists and that is what they should be known for.

I love the Backstreet Boys with all of my heart and soul and nothing will ever change that. I'd take a bullet 4 those sweet guys. But today, Valentine's Day, out of all days, I seem to miss them and want them the most. I don't have a boyfriend to spend today with, so I look to the Backstreet Boys 4 love. I know I really haven't heard them say to me, "Chesna, we love you." But they have said many times that they love their fans. And I'm a fan. And that's enough love 4 me. Although I wish very much that the Backstreet Boys would love me like they would love their girlfriend. But hey, it doesn't hurt to dream, right?

LOVE AFFAIR

Valentine's Day is a time to focus on love. Not just the

often-emphasized romantic love, but every kind of love. It is in that spirit

that I consider the love affair between the Backstreet Boys and their fans.

The passionate affection and unwavering enthusiasm the BSB fans show for

their beloved is unlike any phenomenon I have ever witnessed. As an "older"

fan I lived through some of the hype of the other groups the Backstreet Boys

are compared to. However, I see several key differences that set this

movement apart.

First of all, despite the way the media portrays them, the Backstreet Boys

fans encompass a wide range of people. They vary in age, race, gender, and

background. Second, these performers are talented, hard working, and

constantly make a sincere effort to connect personally with the fans. After

I saw them perform live for the first time last October, that was my first

observation. I never attended a concert where I felt SO much a part of it.

Instead of just sitting as a spectator watching the performance, it felt more

like an experience that each person in the arena was directly involved with.

They simply have this way about them that makes each fan feel special and

connected. They wave, they make eye contact, and they simply notice their

audience more. This clearly illustrates the love and appreciation they feel

for their fans. After all, they even dedicated a song for the fans - "Larger

Than Life".

Finally, their infectious energy, charisma, and positive outlook transcend

their music. I am a living example of this. About a year ago, my mother

died and the following months were a dark period in my life. I had

difficulty climbing out of the daily feeling of loneliness and

depression…until I found the Backstreet Boys. It still amazes me that these

five guys could do something that my family or friends could not - give me

the courage to move on after my mother's death. The more I read and hear

from other fans, I realize I am not alone in this experience. I often hear

fans recount how BSB touched their lives in a profound manner. Being part of

the Backstreet Boys experience enable them to proceed past the dark times in

their lives whether it be a death in the family, relationship break-up,

personal illness, or simply frustration with life's challenges.

Additionally, the Backstreet Boys brought fans together so they can not only

enjoy the music and share stories, but also help each other.

Don't ask me to explain why this happens or why these five individuals, who

were brought together by destiny, have this particular effect. Sometimes you

so clearly recognize a feeling, but somehow find it difficult to explain.

Hmmm…sounds like being in love.

So at this time of year when we take the time to celebrate love, I will

remember my…no, OUR…love affair with Brian, Nick, AJ, Kevin, and Howie.

Happy Valentine's Day to the ones we love!
