Why do you love the Backstreet Boys?

I love them also because they were the first real group to bring back pop...before them, there wasn't a whole selection of groups to like, like there is now. Well, I'm not another obsessed fan who calls themselves Mrs. Littrell or Mrs. Carter. So get that out of your head. I like BSB because they're original, first off. They have a unique sound which blennds their beautiful voices together in a mix of R&B and pop. Unlike "boy bands", the Backstreet Boys' music doesn't sound "proccessed". Each song they sing is unique and original in it's own way. From the soulful ballads of "Like A Child", to the mid-tempos of "I Want It That Way", all the way to the upbeat, fun songs like "Larger Than Life", each song sounds different.     Somehow, each boys' voice falls into each part of the song perfectly. Nick is great for high notes and solos, Brian, perfect for leads and slower songs. Kevin, fit for slow songs and speaking roles, Howie,  who can hit those falsetto notes on the spot. And AJ. Wow! AJ. His voice is my favorite in my opinion. He can change his voice, somehow, to fit every type of song. Have you ever noticed? He sounds gorgeous in "Like A Child" and perfect in "I Want It That Way". He can hit those high notes  in "Lay Down Beside Me". His voive is, I don't know how to describe it! Beautiful, amazing! Those are good words. These guys are for real. They can prove it. Ask them to sing acapella, and they will do it on the spot, just flawlessly.     Now talent is the next thing that comes to my mind. The Backstreet Boys have loads of it. They all have great voices, as I have established, and boy can they dance! If you have had the chance to see them live (like I have, three times!), you wil know what I'm talking about. Each step in each routine is perfectly syncronized and flawless. This is due in part to Fatima Robinson, the boys' choreographer. To quote Nick, "She is the greatest dancer alive, I think." But there are two halves to the boys' wonderful dance routines. First is Fatima, and second is their patience, dedication, and love for their fans.     Now, you might say, "BSB don't play their own instruments", but thats where you are wrong. Nick pounds away on the drums, Brian strums his guitar in songs such as "Thats What She Said", Kevin plays the piano, while AJ and Howie are learning to play the guitar also. They have even showcased these talents by playing "Quit Playing Games" on last years' sold-out tour.     Some people say that the Backstreet Boys' dont write their own songs. They coudn't be farther from the truth!  Each boy has credits to his name. Nick and Brian co-wrote a song for Nick's younger brother Aaron, AJ wrote "If You Knew What I Knew", Kevin co-wrote "Back To Your Heart", and Howie wrote some songs with Foxy Brown. Of course, these songs listed are the bare minimum. They have all written more songs, to numerous to name. Now Brian probably has the most skill for writing. He has written "Thats What She Said", co-written two songs on Millennium, and he wrote, produced and arranged a choir for his song "The Perfect Fan" dedicated to his mom.     So now are you understanding why I love the Backstreet Boys? Well, I have more to back it up.     Videos. Music Videos. BSB have made over ten. Probably the most important vidoe theyhave made to date is "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)". This video was totally inspired by the boys themselves. They had ideas, and built from there. It was a breakthrough video for them.     From "Quit Playing Games" to "I Want It That Way", each video is unique and gives the boys some space to flex their acting muscles.     Now lets talk about the albums. The first BSB album to debut in the U.S., in 1997, self-titled, Backstreet Boys. Full of catchy songs and soulful ballads. It has sold over 12 million copies and is still on the charts. The next album, Millennium. Released May 18th, 1999. This was possibly the biggest day in music history. The album sold more than 500,000 copies in it's first day, shatterinf Garht Brooks' previous record. It jumped to no. 1 on the charts and stayed firmly there. In it's first week, the boys' sophomore album sold 1.13 million copies! The album is the best by the boys yet.  And they are very proud of it. Brian and Kevin co-wrote songs on it, and Nick arranged vocals for some songs. The songs are much more meaningful and mature. From "Larger Than Life", dedicated to the fans, to "I Want It That Way", the best known song by BSB yet, all the songs are great. They set off on a huge tour in Europe in June to promote the album. In the fall of 1999, they set off to the U.S. for the Into the Millennium Tour, sponsered by Sears. The tour sold out in less than an hour! They even agreed to add more dates. I went to an ITM concert and can say it is the best concert yet!  They sing every song on the new album, plus all of our old favorites. It is truly and awesome concert. So, as you can see, these huys have talent. But it doesn't stop there!     Onto each boy personally. I have never met them, unfortunately, but I have a pretty good idea of how they are. They are all incredibly smart and serious, but can all be very funny and cute. They act sarcastic sometimes, but they're just trying to get us fans to laugh, which is not hard to do! Brian is by far the funniest. He alwyas knows how to make me laugh. He is such a sweetie. AJ, he does these funny voice impressions. He can do Star Wars, Gilligan's Island, you name it, he'll do it. But he is a rebel. He has lots of tattoos. So what? That doesn't make him a bad person. He still looks good. Nick is very cute. He likes to ham it up for the camera and always thinks of something cute to say or do. Kevin is the leader of the group. Thats not a problem though. He can be serious and he can also be very goofy. Howie is very kind. He can crack jokes, and is a real sweetheart. Did I mention he has a beautiful smile?      BSB are very cordial to their fans. They always try to give them whatever they want. Be it an autograph, a hug, kiss, or even a gesture in their direction. They try to be as close to them as they can. Sadly, thats not as possible anymore. They have become extremely popular, and practically everyone loves them. But they still try and thats important.     An issue that has benn bugging me is that of the Backstreet Boys being only a "teenybopper" group or a "boy band". That is so untrue!  People from ages 5 to 65 love them. It just happens that teenagers like them because they are "cute", not paying any attention to their incredible voice and wonderful personalities.     So, as you can see, I left this reason for last, because it's not as important as the rest. They are hot!. Ok, ok! I know I sound like an obsessed teenybopper, but it is oh, so true! They are good looking guys and everyone knows it. But fans shouldn't judge them on how they look. I think that they would rather you look at them for their music and talent. Not cause they look good.     So now you know why I love the Backstreet Boys so much. The main reason is because I adore their music. I mean, I don't care how goodlooking a group can be, if they don't make good music, I won't like them, period. The second reason is that they inspired me so much in life. They didn't stop me from killing myself or something as serious as that, but they did inspire me on the little important things in life. They inspired me to be the best that I can be, to be true to myself, to be kind, and especially to be modest. All my friends think im crazy when i'll them that these 5 guys keep me from losing my mind A life with peer pressure and everything they strike a cord with me and their music and smiling faces make my day and truly keep me from losing my mind.
