Show Me The Meaning of SMTMOBL: The Video

The video makes me cry everytime I see it. Even though AJ is my favorite I couldn't help but cry when I saw Brian lying there with that oxygen mask on. If Brian,or any other member for that matter, ever really died I would be sooooooooo heartbroken. Everything about that video depresses me. I was just so amazed at how into the video the boys got. I can remember the first time I saw that video and let me tell you it was not a good time. It was the New Years that it world primered, and I was at my best friends house. And the moment I saw Brian laying their with that oxygen mask on his face. I broke down in tears and cried, it was just plain awful. And let me tell you that weekend wasn't much better either, I was so depressed all weekened long that I would cry for no reason at all. Talk about sad. I mean dude I love that video Nick looks so cute, but I wish I was the girl he was rescuing how sweet would that be. Just promise me you won't show me that video, cuz if you do you'll have to put up with the water works. Everybody deals with tragedy and loss of a family member so I thought the video was just beautiful. I admire the guys' courage to face the loss of their friends and loved ones; it's never easy to accept loss of a loved one but it's something we all must go through. All in all, it was a terrific video and I loved it! P.S. It is so powerful and emotional. When I first saw it on TRL, I was near tears. Most of their videos have all these great special effects, but this one was simple and dark. This song really helped me when my grandfather died from having so many small heart attacks. So, I kind of feel what Brian does. I know that life is precious and you have to live it. And that's what my grandfather did. All the guys were so open with how they feel, it was like I was friends with them. I am so happy they can be honest with us. Some singers aren't like that. Here is what I observed from each of the guys' parts. Kevin- remembering his father who passed away, watching videos of them when he was young. I think Kevin wanted his dad to see the man that he had become and say good-bye again. Howie- thinking about his sister Caroline, who died from Lupus. He wishes he could be with her, one last time, because she passed away before he could get to her home. I remember when she died, because Backstreet was supposed to perform at our state's "Last Chance Summer Dance" concert. But in the end, they didn't perform, only Howie left to North Carolina to see her. Brian- he was reminising about his heart surgery, and how lucky he was to be alive. When his heart stopped, it was like a "what if". What if he had died? What would happen to Backstreet Boys, to his family and friends? This looked very painful to act out all over again. AJ- I think the girl he sees is a girlfriend who died when AJ was younger. He still thinks about her and he wishes he could say good-bye. Nick- this one is hard. Maybe he wishes he could have been able to grow up like normal kids and be with his family more. Or he's like an Angel, leading all the guys to a better place and out of their "Year of Hell" (1998). Or the girl he pulls out of the way is an old friend who passed away also. All in all, this was the most beautifully made video ever. I'll always think of them when I hear this song and hope they will not have to go through what they all did in 1998. I just know the video touched everyone's Heart and Soul,even if they won't admit it!I love on Brian related to his heart problems,Kevin to his father's death.Both were the ones that touched me the most.I love this video,it shows a softer side of the Backstreet Boys!! This was his expression of a painful moment in his life: his heart surgery. Kevin's inspiration came from his father's death from cancer. He is shown watching family movies with himself and his father in the picture. Howie's scene reflects the loss of his sister, Caroline Cochran to lupus. As for Nick and A.J. I gathered that this showed their hardships with their girlfriends, Mandah and Amanda. With their tour engagements and promotional venues it's hard for them to spend as much time with them as they'd like. The bus' name, Denniz St. is in honor of Denniz Pop who died of cancer not so long ago. Here's what I think each of the guys parts' symbolize: Brian-his open heart surgery and the fact that he could have died due to his condition or the risky procedure. Kevin-the death of his father: a man who truely meant the world to him. A.J.-the death of his one girlfriend and his mentor Denniz PoP, who was with BSB from the beginning. Howie-the death of his sister Caroline, who introduced him to his calling in life. Nick-hmm, tricky...but the fact that because of his fame, he had to grow up very quickly and didn't get the chance to experience the life of a normal teenager. And the end of the video, where they join together and walk into the sunrise symbolizes that they have recieved the strength to overcome these painful moments of their lives. Even though this is in "Other Features", I hope people will read this. SMTMOBL is a song that can break your heart, but is a message to us all that we can take our sorrow and forge it into strength and courage to face whatever life hands to us.
