What do you think about the outcome of the 2000 Grammy Awards?

I am not just saying that because I am a fan, even my mother and grandmother feel the same way. We all also agree that the Backstreet Boys were cheated out of the awards that they deserved. I was so enraged that I went to bed in tears. It just wasn't right. I think that they were using the boys to get more ratings. I even wrote to the Grammys. This is what I said: To Whom It May Concern: My name is Ashley Thomas and I felt that the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards should be addressed. I do not understand what has to be done by an artist to prove themselves worthy of a Grammy. How is it possible to have the biggest selling album by the largest group of the moment with the biggest song of the year be nominated for five awards and come up short on all of them? Why is it that they can perform twice in one night, once with the lifetime award recipient, yet they still cannot walk up those honorary stairs and grasp the gramophone? Of course, I am speaking of the magnificient Backstreet Boys. I understand that Santana had an incredible comeback, but was it not Backstreet who broke numerous records? Was it not Backstreet who made the biggest song of 1999 on radio airplay alone? If you all did not think that they were worthy of a Grammy, why were the Backstreet Boys asked to perform a medley of songs by Grammy winning male vocal groups featuring "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely"? I am not trying to take away from Santana or any other winners, but I am trying to get Backstreet what they deserve, true respect from the music industry. I want to know, do the same people that nominate, vote as well? If not, who does vote? When they vote, do they seriously think about who deserves this award? Sure, Santana deserved some of the Grammys, but don't you think that Backstreet deserved a couple as well? No other act has done more this year than them. No other act has broken and set more recordss in a single year with one album since maybe Michael Jackson. So, at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards, when the Backstreet Boys are nominated again, and they will be, please, don't short them like you did this year. Even my mother, who is from the Santana age, and my grandmother feel as though the Backstreet Boys were cheated out of their awards. My mother was deeply hurt. Submitted by liz roberts from nepean ontario canada Date: Sat Feb 26 08:36:05 2000 I am sooo dissapointed that my boys did not win any grammys! out of five they could have won 4 ( the other was for song writing so it would have gone to the writers ) I know that Carlos Santana was overlooked for 30 years and that he's an excellent artist (i have the CD) but i mean really, he got 8 out of his ten! I think he would have been happy with 7! He doesn't NEED all 8. The grammy voters should have given BSB at least one of the grammys that they deserved. 2 years in a row they've been shut out! Last year, I knew that because of the other artist and they're popularity status in the US that they probably would not have won. I figured that with 5 nominations, they couldn't have lost. Even Elton John said that they were one of the few "boy bands" that had the whatever it is you need to stick around and that he respects the guys. You think that that would mean a lot. He's even one of the guys idols! Anyway, enough of my goings on. I just hope that the Grammy academy realizes next year that our boys have been overlooked and that they blow everyone out of the water! Could 2 billion backstreet fans be wrong about the boys? How cool was it that they got to back up Elton John? I think that was awesome and Kevy loved every minute of it. Sure they didn't win, but their day will come. Santana deserved everything he got. Also, how many people get to perform twice in one night on the Grammy stage? I think BSB made people stand up and take notice with their medley performance. They looked good too!!! Hopefully one day they will realize that they do deserve the credit that is well overdue. Hell he was in the first woodstock, but still. Thats song smooth.......without rob thomas Samtana sux in it. He's getting too old. And BSB has been around for 8 years thank u. Almost a decade. I say they deserved at least ONE grammy. I'm happy for santana, but.... i think he should retire. Use all that money for his kids and stuff.
