Okay, first of all, I was a little disapointed that the Backstreet Boys didnt take home any awards. I really beleive that they should have taken home best pop album, but the truth is, i've never heard the Sting album, so I have no bases of comparison. I think all the Santana hype will pass, yes, he's worked hard all of his life and finally getting recognition, blahblahblah. I think it's funny how people are always like "oh, the Backstreet Boys cant even play their own instraments...ect.." but why is it that no one knocks Santana for not singing his own grammy winning songs? He got pop influential singers to do that for him, such as Rob Thomas and Wycleif. Honestly, I dont think that "Smooth" is that great of a song, but that's just my oppinion. "I want it that way" surpases that song in everyway and should have taken home song of the year. Anyways, as i was saying, I really think that this whole Santana thing will pass, but i'm sure non BSB fans are saying the same thing about our group, so who knows. 1999 was a very big year for the Backstreet Boys, possibley their most successful year ever, hopefully they will continue to grow and gain respect from a more diverse range of people, I forsee great things for the Backstreet Boys at next years Grammy's, if the continue their progression, but only the Backstreet Boys can tell that.

i THOUGHT THAT EVERYONE OF THE AWARDS THAT SANTANA AND ROB THOMAS WON SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE BSB!!!! AND OVER HALF THE WORLD AGREES. NEXT YEAR WAIT AND SEE WHO WILL WIN THE MOST!!!!

Here's what I think of the Grammys.... it's a boring excuse to give awards that really don't mean anything to people that have been around for ten years or longer. It doesn't matter whether or not they actually deserve the award, it's theirs because they've been able to last in the music biz for longer than two months. I for one was bored, except for BSB's performances, with the whole show. Everyone knew Santana was going to go home with everything. I just don't understand how they can nominate BSB and their writers for five awards and then not even give them one... Christina Aguilera had one freakin single out and she got one. Now is that right???? The best part was when Elton John stuck up for them! GO ELTON!!!!!

i don't think it's fair that Santana got all the awards. sure he's a great musician but it's also a record breaking year for BSB too. they should have at least got one.

I don't understand how one man can win soooo many awards for playing the guitar. In my opinion, all Sh*tana..oops Santana...did was use the poularity of modern singers to try to become popular again...and right before the Grammy's! I truly DO NOT think he deserved ALL of his awards. I was crying when my Boys did not win anything because they deserved it all the way. After all, they have sold the most albums by far and have accomplished so much this past year. I don't mean to sound hateful or mean or whatever, but I needed to get my feelings out. BSB deserved some awards, if not all of them they were nominated for...and not just in my opinion either. All the online polls and the MTV polls were won by BSB, not Santana. I know the Grammy's are not chosen by the public, but it makes me wonder what the people who do vote look for when they determine the winners.........

It just makes me mad, in my opinion, that people who work so hard and are well-rounded in so many things, like BSB, lose an award, or AWARDS, to someone, like Santana, who uses people to get famous and only plays guitar........At least TRY to sing for gosh sakes!!!!!............

I think Santana's sweep of the Grammy's was all a lot of hype. I'm not upset that the boys didn't win everything, I'm just upset that the boys didn't win ANYTHING. I think if millions and millions of fans can take the Backstreet Boys seriously, why can't the judging panel for the votes do the same? I mean, Santana might have made a big comeback this year, but the Boys have made a huge impact on the music industry as well. Don't get me wrong, I am not begrudging Santana's awards. I have his album, and it's a good one, but I don't think that it's "the best thing I've ever heard in my life". That role was taken by the Backstreet Boys a long time ago!!!

people, stop blaming santana for 'stealing' the grammy. the man worked for 40 years and finally got some recognition. i'm kinda upset that sting got the best pop record award. and i really thought 'iwitw' was going to be named best song. i mean, 'smooth' is okay, but it doesn't particularly require musical genius. i coulda came up with that.

I'm not surprised they didn't win. It seems stupid I'd be at a Backstreet page and saying this, but I'm not surprised. The pop category is probably the least respected of the whole award show, so it was obvious Santana was going to walk away with the 3 awards BSB was going for. Second, in the pop category the boy bands are the least respected group of artists. So Sting had to walk away with that one.

It's really sad that the BSB didn't get anything, because it is as if people are saying, "So you were the bestselling artist of the year. So what?" Maybe Lady Grammy would be kinder next year.

BSB sounded GREAT! They looked good, too. I think the guys looked great, except Nick, who looked like a disrespectlful pig in a silk shirt. He was practically laying on Elton John's piano. You just don't do that. Show some manners, next time..
