I watched the VMA's last night. I swore I wouldn't, because I'm still upset that BSB wasn't nominated at least once. And, after catching a glimpse of Nick and Howie, it set me off again. I believe that there is a concentrated effort, by JIVE, and MTV, at the very least, to prevent the guys from being as successful or even more than they ever were. I know that others will say, "Why should JIVE not promote BSB heavily, because it means money to them?" I believe, it is an affort to get them to leave, in which case, JIVE will certainly profit. What makes me take this rather bizarre point of view? Release of "It's True" was forced as a BK promotion. That prevents it from getting any airplay (stations would have to pay big advertising bucks). --The BK promotion was supposed to be monumental, costing millions, and widespread. --There are parts of the U.S. where no posters, no promotional materials, and only sporadic play of the commercials has even occurred. --JIVE could have pushed to have BSB as presenters at the VMA's, where they could have promoted their upcoming album and video (as N'Sync were allowed shamelessly to do), but although Nick and Howie were there, we only got a glimpse. --VMA producers said BSB wasn"t nominated because they needed balance between Pop, Rock, and Rap this year. Witness N'Sync, Britney, Christina, 98 Degrees, Ricky Martin,Jennifer Lopez, etc. either nominated or appearing. That doesn't look like balance to me. --Viewer's Choice is supposed to be just that, but I, the viewer, was only given the choices of the MTV producers. Two BSB megahits of the last year were excluded--not my choice. --N'Sync was all over the TV with their hits 4 months before NSA was released. Where are The Boys? Don't tell me it's because the album isn't finished. N'Sync didn't have theirs finished either before they started promotions. Where's management? Where's support for BSB? I don't believe Backstreet Pride is alive and kickin', I believe it's hemorrhaging badly and in need of help. We should be screamin' right now. We should have bumper stickers--WHERE ARE OUR BOYS? I've been a fan since they first came to the U.S., and Brian and Kevin getting married is further more is proving that they are more than just a flash-in-the-pan boyband. They themselves, their music, and their videos have proved to everyone that they really ARE artists and more than a people who went to an audition and got a part in a group. Look at all of the stars that think they are great, from, Foxy Brown, Elton John, Madonna, Eric Clapton, Babyface, Missy Elliot, Sting and the list goes on. I think that these people will help BSB achieve what they are looking for, longevity. They are not just another boy band like Nsync, pandering to the whims of 12 year olds, who think that the sun shines out of Justin Timberlake's arse, but a band who's voices have beauty and maturity. Which is something that the nasal meanderings of Nsync will never be able to achieve. But I cannot believe that they have managed to fool many people that they are singers , which they are not, they are performers. BSB are singers. I firmly believe that the next album of BSB's will be much more mature than Millennium and I also think that they will be around for much longer than Nsync will be. And whilst I may not have been keen on BSB's last album (though they had some great songs on there, 10.000 promises, All I have to give, Thats the way I like it, Thats what she said and If I do'nt have you) Millennium was by far the best pop album that I have heard. I have also heard Nsyncs latest album, No Strings Attatched and whilst I have no intention of upsetting Nsync fans, this has got to be one of the most infantile pieces of rubbish that I have ever heard (apart from Britney Spears latest effort) and the worst song would have to Space Cowboy, what the hell is that song about? And whilst BSB have grown up and got adult fans, I can't see many people my age listening to the Nsync album. I do'nt know where Nsync are going to go from here. They can't trot out the same rubbish, because people will get sick of another Bye Bye Bye (incidently their new song sounds exactly the same, but with different words, and the same video, except they are dolls and not puppets and is it my imagination but is it the same lame dance routine as well) And if they try to trot out the same stuff as BSB they will fail because no one does it better than BSB. The article said that by this summer, BSB will be out. Well it's late summer now and when I look at teeny mags guess who I see on the cover? Yup the Backstreet Boys! Also the article basically said N'Sync were already over. Well as much as I don't like them, they're extremely popular now. Come fall Backstreet will be back on top! And if you listen to the self-titled album and then Millennium well if you don't hear any growth or maturity between the two well then you're crazy! Backstreet forever!!!!
