I like Bsb and all, but it makes me mad that alot of thier fans are always dissing everyone else! I like, and I know alot of people that like Bsb and Nsync! OMG! Yes, bands eventually wear off, but the 'boys' have been around for 6 and 7 years and have they lost fans? No, they have gained fans. I went to my first BSB concert this past November. I looked around and realized there was more than just teenage girls screaming for their favorite boy. There was men, women, little boys, teenage boys, grandparents, boyfriends, and alot of other people that you would think would be at a Kid Rock show not a BSB. As me and my parents(who said that they enjoyed the show very much) were walking out I over heard a mother talking to her daughter. She said that they were good, for a boy band. Please, define the term 'boy band'. Is it an all boy based group that dance and sing? If you look at it that way then 'boy bands' have been around for a very long time. But, if you look at it this way: a band consisting of all males. Then you have Kid Rock, Limp Bizcuit, Orgy, KoRn and all the other popular bands out there. As for calling their music 'bubble gum'.... I have to agree with another girls' entry that said Hanson and Spice Girls are that sound. Their is really no definiton for their sound. It's a little bit of pop, R&B, alternitive, and rock. Now, the word that has started a big controversy: NSYNC. I have to admit that I did like them for about 2-3 months. As for now... no. I'm sticking with BSB. Yes, NSYNC works hard but not as hard as BSB. NSYNC has created a name for themselves. I'm not sure what it is but I know it's out there some where. They also have been around for more than a year and have out lived the basic boy band life. Is there a law out in the music industry that says bands have a certain time limit in the world? Look at the Rolling Stones they have been around for over 25 years. And Aerosmith have been around since the 70's and they have a wide fan base. They are something that me and my dad have in common along with Boyz II Men and even the BSB. My dad likes their music, he said at the concert that he had never seen so many fans screaming their lungs out. For 3 hours I was in a sheltered world listening to the music I enjoy. There is something to be said about every artist out there. Marilyn Manson aka the symbol is connected to the devil, Britney Spears supposedly has breast implants, Limp Bizcuit is the reason why Woodstock '99 went wrong. If people(mostly adults) are so concered wether a certain 'boy band' is going to be around next year they have issues. There is alot more things that need to be publicized such as: guns in school, poverty, and wars. Sure, the New Kids on the Block fizzled out, but that was because one of them ended up in jail or something. They never had a record breaking album, sold out tours, and they were never nominated for a grammy (at least I don't think they were). I think it doesn't matter what age you are to like the Backstreet Boys. My mom likes them, and sometimes I catch my dad singing along to their song when it comes on the radio. Even my grandma knew who they were and thought they were ok. They have already proved so many people wrong with how their CD Millenium is doing, and I think they are going to continue to prove people wrong and they'll stay in the music buisness for a long time. All the other groups will probably fizzle out like they are doing now, but the Backstreet Boys will be around for awhile. Atleast I hope they will. I went to 5 Millenium concerts and I am 19. I was certainly not the oldest there! I have met 26-40 year old women that Love the Bsb, even more than me!And thier music is maturing, but is there anything wrong with "POP Music"? I happen to like POP music and I always have, so I don't know why Music critics make it out like these boybands are so aweful when they make so many people happy!! And 98 degrees isn't a "boyband"! They are only labeled that because they are 4 guys singing that happen to be good-looking!I mean honestly, do you really think they would be called a Boyband if they were UGLY? Date: Wed Dec 22 13:06:00 1999 It makes me mad that critics still put the BSB in with the same catagory as such flashes in the pan groups as 98 degrees, LFO, and N Sync. You would think that after the BSB have been around for almost 7 years and their second worldwide release went platinum in a WEEK and diamond in 7 months they (the critcs) would learn their lesson. And speaking of Millennium-this CD has no bubble gum songs on it to speak of. It has shown real maturity and attracted a diverse group of fans. I am 27 years old so I think I know a good deal about this subject and I really have something to say about it. I think the possibility of "boy bands" fizzling out is always there. But I truly believe that will not happen in the case of the Backstreet Boys. As long as BSB continues to grow with their music, then there fans will follow. The article quoted someone as saying about New Kids On the Block, how they did a song "I'll be loving you forever" and then their next album did a song called "Dirty Dawg" and that you can't make that kind of a move. Well no you can't but she was not telling the whole story. NKOTB made a DRAMATIC change, the type of song was totally different. And fans did not forget NKOTB, NKOTB forgot about us. THEY decided to break up, THEY decided they couldn't do it anymore because they weren't happy. And believe it or not, the fans pick up on stuff like that. Backstreet Boys are different. AJ once said on MTV that "Millenium" was a little bit of a change but that they "did not want to do a total 360 and do something that wasn't Backstreet Boys" those were his exact words. BSB knows the key to keeping their fans is GRADUAL change not overnight change. You have to grow with the audience. And for the first time in a long time, I see a group of guys who really have their head on their shoulders. True, most "boy bands" do fizzle out but there are those, like the Beach Boys, whose music transcends the generations. And I believe if the BSB keep doing what they're doing, then the same will be true for them. I am 27. I was an A-HA fan, too, when A-HA first started. And I still love them to this day. My love for their music has NEVER died; I changed but only to the extent that I am not a silly obsessed 14 year old anymore. But I still love their music as much as I did the first day I heard "Take on Me". Backstreet Boys are smart. The smartest guys I have seen in a long time. They will be fine, do not underestimate them. Trust me when I tell you, neither BSB nor their fans are going anywhere fast. First of all, BSB were the first big major boy band to make it and then last this long. Secondly, their millenium album has broken the record for most albums sold in one day. I mean come on now, all those cd's can't be bought by only children. When I went to go buy the cd, I saw little old ladies, moms, dads, big brothers and all sorts of people who were either too young to have little childern or too young. Also, when you go to a concert, there are all sorts of people who are there, just read what Mandy Moore said. And if you think about it, all those other boy bands, what DON'T they have in common with the Backstreet Boys? ? N'sync tries to copy EVERYTHING BSB does with the record label and songs etc. BSB will definetly last longer than those other boy bands because, unlike BSB, none of them will survive without one key member. For example, N'sync won't survive without Justin, LFO they suck already, 98 degrees, they just need to hide under a rock because they ABSOLUTELY SUCK! And plus all the BSB's have talent in another field such as different music tastes. So BSB will surely last longer! As for Backstreet boys, I'd bet that we can expect a few more years and more albums from them, but that doesn't go for the other boy bands out there. This market had become so saturated with the boy/girl bubble gum sound that it's inevitable it's going to crash fairly soon, as with any other music trend of the past.
