No clue at all what is going on in the minds of all the music lovers around the world, and no heart that can see the possibility of living a dream. I am honestly sick of hearing the comparisons between Backstreet Boys, New Kids On The Block, Nsync, LFO, 98 Degrees, Menudo and others. Because you know what? They are all different. Every single one of them. So some of them have five members, maybe some of them are related, and they sing Pop music...why does that give people the right to say that none of them wil last? So NKOTB faded out...lets move on because that doesn't mean the Backstreet Boys will. Look what they have accomplished for Christ's sake. Artist of the year, album of the year, group of the year(2), Two MTV video music awards, Grammy Nomination, AMA nominations, and have broken several records. Can you name any other "Boy Band" that has done that? No I think not. And this whole "Boy Band" title, what exactly does that stand for? Oh I get it...so you're a guy, you sing, and you are in a group. Okay, so does that mean Blink 182, Limp Bizkit, Boyz 2 Men, Korn, Green Day, Nirvana, Hanson and other male singer groups are "Boy Bands"? What that title is, is just in my opinion, a put down. It trys to show people that you're a "flash in the pan", not a real talent, and just a bunch of dumb jocks with good looks. It takes a lot of guts to be in the music business and believe me it's a hard ladder to climb to the top. So why is it when a group that is so wonderfully talented and greatful for what they have, like the Backstreet Boys, pushed down and told they are through when they are at the top? Yes people are fickle...but you know what? Not all of the Backstreet Boys' fans are 15 and younger. Hell my Grandmother loves them, she even has a poster! My mom went to the concert with us, my 18 year old friends love them and so do a lot of my 21 and older friends. The author of this article has no right to label a group, especially the Backstreet Boys on how much they are worth or how long they will be around. There is room in the world for more then one type of music and more than one type of group. They are all completely different from each other. Different people, different songs, different personalities, and different strenghts. So don't tell me how long the Backstreet Boys can last...they have been here for 7 years! And I know damn well that they will be around for another 7+ years to come...because us TRUE Backstreet Boys fans will KTBPA!!!!! (or something like that). Well. the Backstreet Boys aren't a "boy band" Tha Backstreet Boys have a huge variety of fans. young, old, black, white, fat, skinny. They're music isn't made for teenaged girls... at elast not only for us. They're music is made for ppl who just broke up, who are ready to party, or who just "don't want them back" ya know? i admit, the backstreet boys haven't been up to their usual standards lately. they are doing 2 tours in the EXACT same places!!!!! i am very hurt by this. but that doesn't mean that i hate them. i still love the boys. they may not be at their best right now. but it's not hard for them to get their. some of the other "wanna-be" bands may have had their run. NSYNC, are almost over... 98* are just heating up, LFO... we'll see what happens to them. but no-matter what any body says, only time will tell!! If the fans still love them and keep buying their records and merchandise and keeping requesting them on the radio stations and MTV and keep going to the concerts then more then likely BSDB will be around for awhile. BSB has been popular in the states for 2 1/2 years now and popular over in Europe for 4 or 5 years now. So it's up to the fans! I'm a die hard fan of BSB and if they ever go away then my life will be over. They are what keeps me going. They are my strength and I love thme more then words could ever say! They totally rock my world! So if your a true BSB fan then support BSB and keep them going forever! KTBPA! As much as I don't like Johnny Wright for what happenrd between him & BSB, he's right. The Backstreet Boys mature with each cd, and so do the fans (us). We grow with our Boys and we are like a reflection of them. Maybe by next summer 'nsync and 98 Degrees won't be as popular, but Backstreet will be around for a very long time, with huge fanbases and all of us devoted fans, I can guarantee we'll be seeing a lot of our Boys well into the next millennium. They have teenage fans and fans in their 20s or even 30s! I think they will be here for a while and then maybe go into some kind of solo career or movies! Over the years, I've seen articles like this one come and go. I think that the Backstreet Boys have proven these articles wrong. They've worked hard to get where they are right now, they already have many dedicated fans around the world who has stuck by them and their fan base is still growing! Something like that doesn't just go away in a flash. Plus their music alone, I think, has touched different varieties of people - the young and old, girls and boys too! They're not just a market for teenage girls, like they all say. And another thing that I wanted to point out is that when these fans do grow up, I think it's more likely that they would start to appreciate their music more rather then how good they look, instead of losing interest in them all in all. I know that's exactly what's like for me. I'm only 15 (I know that's not very old!), and I still think they're a cute bunch of guys, but what I really like most about them is their music. Rather than maybe 5 years ago, when I was only 10, I thought they were really hot and their music came second!!! See, what I mean? Submitted by jackie from enterprise alabama united states Date: Wed Dec 22 13:55:31 1999 i think this whole deal about boy bands and how their days are numbered is so retarded. i mean the bsb have proven that they're gonna be around for a long time by selling out their tour and breaking records, and most of you can tell they care about their fans. i think most critics think they're not gonna last because they say only teenage girls like them but i think bsb also appeal 2 an older crowd and even boys. people who say they don't like the backstreet boys say so for stupid reasons. for instance peolpe at my school say they're gay but look at Blink 182, they run around naked together. now thats gay.so what if bsb don't write all of their songs, or play instruments.hanson played their own insrtuments and wrote their own songs but they still were criticised and talked about .bsb make good music and thats all that matters. This is by virtue of the fact that the Backstreet Boys did not just arrive on the musical scene. They have been together as a musical entity since 1993. If I have my history correct, their rise to fame began around 1995 in Canada and Europe , and around 1997 in the USA. Their US debut album "Backstreet Boys" was released several years ago and is still selling. It remains at number 53 on the Billboard charts. With the release of "Millennium" they proved not only that they have matured personally and musically, but that their so-called "teeny bopper" fan base would follow them wherever they go. Please don't underestimate Backsteet fans. With the "Millennium" CD and tour, they also won the hearts and respect of a rapidly growing population of mature fans who range in age from 20 to 70. I happen to be one of them. "Millennium" is the fastest selling CD of all time. It remains at number 3 on the Billboard charts even 9 months after it's release. If you ask how can this happen, I will answer VERY EASILY when you are truly talented. When you create, write and produce beautiful, highly polished music with golden harmonies that I have not seen matched by any other pop group. If this isn't enough, they also capture the interest and imagination of fans young and old with their concert and video performances. Sorry critics, but the Backstreet Boys are not going away anytime soon! They are too talented and they love their music too much. It also is obvious that despite all the criticism they get from the media, the fans are following their hearts and continue to support the Backstreet Boys and their music. These people can recognize a great thing when they see it. With all the success they have had with record sales and there tour they aren't gonna be forgotten. The Backstreet Boys have showed they've got what it takes to survive in the music industry. I also think that 98 degrees will be very successful as well. They are becoming very popular. Nsync and LFO and those other groups though I think are already starting to fizzle out. No one really talks about them anymore. Everyone is too caught up in the Backstreet Boys great success! But along with that I think there will still be the boy-bands. Some of the boybands might expire, but boybands like BSB and Nsync and too big and too devoted to their fans to disperse, or break-up. As long as the fans are their to support the groups through all the up and downs, left and rights of their careers, they will continue to make music. I personally don't think that some of the boy bands that are out now have been out long enough to call it quits, yet. But us as fans and supporters of the group have to make sure we support and love the groups. As to female artists and girl-bands, there will probably be a huge burst of out of female artists and bands.
