Are Their Days Numbered?

In all honesty, I agree that the whole "boy band era" will eventually fizzle out. The door to the market is closing fast and I don't think we'll see many more boy bands come out. But... yes, there is a but... I do think that Backstreet has the opportunity to stay. The differences between their first European album, their first US album, and Millennium is huge! With each album, they've grown and changed their style of music. The biggest jump was, by far, to Millennium. If they're able to keep changing and adding new styles, then I believe they'll stick around. I'm 21 years old and a huge fan. I don't like to think about the Backstreet Boys going away, but I do understand the music market. So, I know that no group could really stay around forever. But, as I said, if they can stay ahead of the game (as they're proven they can do), then they'll be around longer than predicted. Of course, this is all my opinion. But, I like to think it's close to how things will go.

Backstreet Boys will be here for so long. Just becuase one group didn't make it very long, what proves that BSB is going to do that as well! I mean they have been together for 6 yearts almost 7 and have gained so many awards. The "professionals" in the artical need to go to a mental hospital to get their brain checked becuase as far as I am concered is that Backstreet BOys will be here for a very long time. If you agree with me, e-mail me. Or if you just want to tlak, e-mail!

I'm responding to the article as to whether or not boy bands day are numbered. I feel as though, the critics are right in many aspects. Groups like Nsync, LFO, and Five will not be around far into the next millennium, for one reason, and one reason only. They lack versatility. Where as, Backstreet boys are a group of "five" talented guy, not two or three. Also, the boys have the upperhand and are already embarking upon a more mature path going into the new millennium. They have a sound that everyone can agree on. In talking to many other fans, people who listen to the Backstreet boys have a wide variety of music tastes, as do the boys themselves. So even if the market returns to grung or hip hop, they will not have to compromise themselves to keep their fans. Thanx for listening!

Okay, I don't know about the other fans, but I hated this article! BSB have been around a lot longer than a lot of other boy groups. I think they will continue to make music. Look at all the fans they have now! I hate it when people just don't let us like our own music. So what if they end soon? We enjoy the music, I wish everyone would leave them alone and stop saying they will give them about a month to end. The day I stop liking them is the day I am committed to a mental hospital! I love their music, I think they will be around for a while! Please e-mail me if you totally agree with me!

Ok, some parts of this article I agree with. I agree that just like all the other times before the craze for the boy bands will wear out. It's only a matter of time before one trend ends and another begins (remember techno, then ska, then swing?) But I do believe the BSB can withstand this crash of the boybands. Why? Because if you look at all the other boy bands who have failed to make it, they all have one thing in common. They were popular in one country! We have Take That who were loved in Europe and had one cross over hit in America. Then there's the Monkees, New Kids on the Block, and even Boyz II Men. Who all might have had cross overs in Europe and other places, but their main audience was America. If we take a look at BSB, we've got people listening to them in USA, Europe, Canada, Asia, South America, Africa, Australia...this list goes on and on. They've got a strong hold in the music industry just about everywhere. Not to mention that their audience is diverse. These guys I think can withhold the time. Besides, isn't the life-span for a boy band 5 years? They've already been out 6 years and still going strong!

I think bsb will be around for a while. They have matured so much. The music on millennium is much more creative & mature than there past works( don't get me wrong I love ALL there work) But i've noticed alot more adults opposed to the typical teenage following gettin into this also. I mean everyone is digging the BSB. As for groups like n sync, 98 degrees, lfo, etc, etc. that haven't matured much vocally- I don't think THEY will be around for long. I've been a bsb fan for 3 years & don't plan on changing anytime soon!!!!

Shut up, Backstreet Boys has produced the most perfect music and they have the greatest personalities. Judging BSB isn't right or even other bands. It's their job and it's what they love to do. Please be supportive. And if anyone doesn't like them then please SHUT UP!!!!!!!!! Stop saying they're boyband and stop saying they're cute which leads young girls to love them, we love their music and who they are not by their looks. DUH....Jealous of their success, jealous of how famous they are, jealous b/c we love them?

I already wrote a long entry today but I've still got more to say. FIRST THING TO SAY THAT HAS BEEN SAID OVER AND OVER IS THAT THE BACKSTREET BOYS ARE NOT A BOY BAND!!!! Obviously people who write these articles don't seem to understand english so thats why I have to spend a whole lot of time getting this point across! Of course I am totally opposed to this article. Ok first of all, I have been a BSB fan since 1996 and since then I have read many, many articles just like this one. The boys have proven all the writers of these articles wrong each and every time. They've written about how the boys would only be together for about a year or two and then they would be finished with. Well you can toss that observation down the drain cause the boys have now been together since 1993 and are getting more popular with every record that they come out with. Right now the Backstreet Boys are selling out in every arena in every city all over the world. I have so many people, many of them who I barely even know who are just furious at me because I have tickets to see them in March. The same thing happened when I saw them in November, I had even teachers furious at me which is really, really unfair because they know how much I love them and I thought that they would be happy for me. Were they happy for me? NO! They used to be so nice to me but ever since the last BSB concert, they are mean to me. This is all because of the MAJOR popularity of the Backstreet Boys. I don't think all these millions of fans are all of a sudden going to decide that they don't like the BSB and switch over to listening to Britney Spears or Christina Aguleira instead. Ok I'm sure one day the Backstreet Boys will take some time off, I mean they are normal people who do need rest and time to themselves but it doesn't mean that everyone will stop loving them. I can honestly say that I will NEVER EVER stop loving them. I used to be a NKOTB fan when I was young. Not a huge fan no where anywhere as close as I am a fan to BSB. I mean I was only like 7 years old but I had all their tapes and a poster and a video of them and my mom even took me to their concert...and I couldn't understand why everyone was screaming at the concert. After 10 years, I still have all of their tapes, I still have their video, I still have the ticket stub in a frame, and I still have the poster. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of them, I still honestly can say that I love them because they did become a part of my life...only for a very short time but still I was a fan. I still love their music and now that Jordan Knight and Joey McEntire of course I have their new cd's too. Now with Backstreet Boys I have all their cd's including singles, hundreds of posters plastered on my walls, all their videos plus 4 homemade ones where I have every t.v. appearance that has been on in Canada, I've been to 5 of their concerts and I'm going to 2 more next march, I have 15 t-shirts, 2 sweatshirts, plus about 15 buttons and a bunch of keychains, photoalbums, postcards, etc. Obviously I'm a much, much, much, much, much bigger fan of BSB than I ever was of the NKOTB. Now I have turned into one of the screaming, crying girls that I couldn't get over when I saw at the NKOTB concert. This just proves that if I was a little fan of NKOTB 10 years ago and I still love them that my fire of love thats burning in my heart for Nick, A.J, Brian, Howie, and Kevin will NEVER burn out. As long as all of the other fans keep their promises of "I will love BSB forever" than the BSB will be around forever. Its true. Look at all the groups that were around in the 60's or 70's or whatever. Tons of them are still very popular today and their songs are still played over and over and over. No matter what the Backstreet Boys decide to do in the future, we all need to stick behind them 100%. The Backstreet Boys have the greatest fans in the world and we can't let them or anyone forget it and we have to keep that title. The one thing in life that I am proud to say is that I'm a Backstreet Boys fan....FOREVER!!!!!! Ok well I think I've said more than enough so my last comment is

Hey... I just wanted to say that apparently by the large amount of responses given about this article in favor of the Backstreet Boys... It's pretty hard to say that, this is just a fad and that they will fade away in a short matter of time; and that how fast they end will put them in the category with all the other artist said to have had so-called and be categorized in the fifteen minutes of fame saga. First, I'd like to mention the fact that after a long while of reading other opinions made by people from various origens; I decided to see how long til' the last entry... So I started opening pages in different windows to see just how much more until the end, and let me say I was VERY impressed by the fact that I was still off to 22 pages more until the very last entry and this NOT counting the other pages I had already past. Yes other boybands may, with the times, fade BUT think about the fact that BSB is not considered a 'BoyBand' anymore and not that it ever was! The Backstreet Boys are a group of VERY talented men who happen to enjoy what they are doing and give their all in a performance. They know and thank God for giving them the chance to do something that others could only wish for! True they have a young fan base too... BUT should their entire future be predicted by ONLY acknowledging THIS fan base? I am very ticked off at the fact that the fans of a younger age group are the ONLY ones that people seem to look at! What about those who are older and apreciate the work and dedication and not to mention TALENT put into their songs, videos, concerts etc etc. These are the signs of TRUE artists and also signs of the ones that have something to say and stay for. All you have to do is just READ all of the comments made by all those true fans that will stay loyal to these guys to understand that they have 'something more' than your average band... Something that will help them live longer than those other bands and make a name for themselves that will earn them the respect that is long overdue from critics and non-backstreeters. They will one day also fade... no matter what the case for this it can't be prevented nothing lasts forever, but they will be remembered not as a phase in any girls life but maybe even like the great bigs like the Beatles... I'm not saying this because i'm obsessed but because these guys have true talent and because they offer something other than just good looks like any other boy band but good quality music. The good looks are just the icing on the cake. Now as the times may change and so does the music business 'WE', the fans the people who buy records, are the ones who choose the directions of these artists, and by the looks of it we are going to direct them to many more productive years to come. Sure many impressionable teens who happen to be fans could be lured into leaving BSB to go and be 'devoted' fans of the happening group/artist/or type of music that happens to be 'IN' in that moment, but other true fans will live on. Of course this does not mean we will only be fans of JUST this group and this type of music... We WILL grow with the ages, I'm not saying we won't.. but we will ALSO bring along our group BSB with us, for they also grow and mature and change with the ages. We will come to love other artists and types of music as these evolve... We just will always carry a place for the Backstreet Pride in us all. Anyway... this is just my opinion, and I have only now realized I have gone on for too long! But still I just wanted to state it so... Let's just see what happens, though I have faith in these guys to carry on. Either way we will always have these moments and when we find ourselves in the verge of a new era we'll just look back. 'Cause in the words of Will Smith "You never know where you're going till you know where you've been" Not even in the music business! ;)
