The BSB Will be around as long as they have a strong following of fans, which is where we come in and as long as they keep making good music and generally just being, well them! then they are gonna be here to stay and i think that by the recent sell out tour and the amount of awards that they are winning the bsb are definately here to stay

Judging from the facts given in this article, and from what I've seen happen to music in the past, my opinion is a little shaky. Of course, I absolutely love the Backstreet Boys at this point. Their music is excellent, and their talent is incredible. I honestly don't understand how their music can suddenly just become unpopular overnight, which is kind of how some of these experts and critics are making it sound. Yes, the Backstreet Boys' music does have some of that buggle gum pop in it, especially in their earlier sounds. In "Millennium" however, their music has a much more mature sound, which people of all ages are getting into. I'm not kidding, my older teachers and relatives think that these Boys are great!

Right now, I'm 15 years old, and I think that the Backstreet Boys' music WILL grow with our age group. At the moment, why would us girls want to switch our interests over to girl pop, which has just as much...and even more bubble gum in that sound? I mean, really. Just listen to Britney Spears and Mandy Moore. If we're going to wake up one morning and decide that some music is corny, it'll definitely be the girl bubble gum that's corny!

As for the numbered days of some of these other boy bands, who knows? I strongly believe that the Backstreet Boys will outlive the rest, because their music will grow with the rest of us, because it has all ready grown, and so have we.

I am a 16 year old girl from the UK who is very interested in the media, especially the music industry and I would just like to state my opinion. With regards to the article I personally think that what is being said is a load of rubbish, okay so yes I live in england and yes the styles of music that is popular and the groups etc are slightly different but in my view there is always room for both, that is what it is like in the music business as well, I mean if you are a popstar you can't wake up one morning and just say oh I'm giving up because what the media thinks! I have no doubt that the Backstreet Boys and Five (and whoever else are big in America) will read this and it will give them a stronger determination, one which will make them succeed in areas the media doubt them in, and in areas the music listeners will doubt them in. Well, 'girl power' was around when the Spices Girls were bigger but they faded out a lot quicker than the Backstreet Boys will! Well thank you for letting me state my opinion and keep up the brilliant work on your site!!

Let me just say this, as awful as it sounds, the article is true; with the exception of the Backstreet Boys. I'm not just saying this because I'm a BSB fan, but it's also because it's the truth. What the article says about teens being fickle is right on the spot. But as it also says, the BSB's music, if it continues what it's doing, which is growing with its listeners, will not just fade away like other boy bands did and will. The Backstreet Boys have a large adult fan base, which I happen to belong in (21 years old). So sure, maybe they'll lose some of their young fans. But we, adults, are usually pretty consistent. Also, most people I know that are BSB fans don't even listen to pop music, like me. That means that the guys are talented (for those critics who are too biased to notice) and they appeal to the general audience. So, like the guys said, they'll be around for quite awhile.

Well, to tell you the truth, old sad people who call them selves critics of a younger generations music really make me sick. Who do they think they are to state when, how, and why, such a succesful group like the Backstreet Boys are going to fade away. To start with, the Backstreet Boys have worked to hard for to long to be eaten away by jealose and obviosly ever so clueless critics. If they really knew anything on them, it would that the BSB success was not an overnight sensation with absolutely no work or thought put into, but that those guys worked tremendously and put forth so much effort to get to where they are. Secondly, these so called "critics" must obviosly believe that BSB fans are stupid or something and I dont know about you but that really pisses me off. Do they really believe that loyal and true fans would give up on them simply because of what someone else thinks? Well they have another thing coming because people dont tell me what to like and for how long. That is my decision and there is nobody who can ever take it away from me.

I have been a BSB fan since 1996. It wasn't JUST their good looks that kept my interst but them personally, and their music. And what I like the most about them is their sincerity. Their music is genuine and can always make me happy. Simply watch an interview with them and you can immeditly see they aren't a fake or your stereotypicall "boyband" These guys have endured tradgedies, losses, pain, illness, and altogether very harsh times on their road to success to be quickly shunned away as simply another NKOTB.

Until you have undergone everything that they have been through, all those hard times when they had the option to give up but DIDN'T, all the performances, tours, being far away in another country, away from you parents, your family, your friends, always at appearances, press conferences since 1995, and felt their same longing to just go home,to stop, because your tired, because you miss your own home and everything familiar, but kept on going for the love of music and for the fans, then,I truly believe you have the right to say whatever you feel on the subject of "boy bands"

But yes, the critics and writers can say whatever they want, express their own opinion just as you and I can, but they CAN NOT determine the future for the Backstreet Boys. BSB will not always be at the top of the charts, eventually they will slowly lose some of their popularity, but will they ever be forgotten? NEVER. Their music, their talent, their appreciacian for all their fans will never die. I'ts to late to say they are a passing fad. Do fads last for more than 5 years? Hardly not, esspecially when their fan base is made up of not only little teeny boppers but adults as well. May I add guys like their music as well? Taking all of this into consideration our boys will be around for a long time. They have matured along with their fans and this would make it difficult to say the Backstreet Boys will be gone tommorow.

Oh yeah, just a little side note, I think all those so called "pop experts" can take their ideas, shine them up real nice, and stick them right up their candy #$$'s! lol sorry it was real tempting!!

Ok i'll shut up now:)

I read this article when it was first posted but didn't really feel like voicing my opinion, but after reading some tonight I decided to say something. Someone wrote about how the article was someone's opinion and everyone has a right to their opinion and I totally agree with that. So I'm gonna give my own opinion. First of all I don't think BSB is going to fade away any time soon because over this past year all they've done is grown and gained even more fans. I also don't believe that their fame and popularity is going to be lost to the girls of the music period right now. Cuz I've thought about it and I really can't find that many simularities between BSB and Britney Spears besides the fact that they both sing "pop" music but even still their music and type of songs are different. And it's like others said, yes, they most likely won't be number one forever and they most likely won't tour as much as they have been, but that doesn't mean they'll end up like NKOTB. I mean wasn't the Beatles a teeny group once? And aren't they still adored by many generations today?? Why can't the BSB be like them?? And it seems to me one of the only reasons people have been saying they won't last is because NKOTB didn't, well I think it's high time people stop saying that about boy bands and I think the BSB are gonna be the first ones to prove all critics out there today wrong. They're gonna show them that not everyone ends up like NKOTB! I'm gonna support the Boys all the way and wish them all the success in the world and I know all of you reading this will too! Keep The Backstreet Pride Alive Forever!!

I don't agree that the days of the BSB are soon over. Sure, they're not going to be around forever coz nothing is forever. But the Backstreet Boys are certainly gonna be around for another long while. With Millenium being Diamond that just proved that they're still stronger than ever. The only reason they are losing their younger audience is because the younger audience are growing up with them. But it doesn't matter--young or old--their music is for everyone. And even if their time is up--they will always be in our hearts and their music will always be heard 'til eternity & I do believe that somewhere along the way, they're going to find their way back to the face of music and WOW their fans once again.

keeping the backstreet pride alive,

maica

I personally love the boys because their music is very uplifting, romantic, realistic and so... much more. Now, forever is a strong word but I feel the reason I like the boys so much to begin with is because of their sound, and voices. Yeah, they're cute but that's not why I LOVE them. These guys have something called TALENT and they do it so well. Not only that, but they do it in a positive way. That's why I enjoy it. I'm pretty sure they all will settle down one day and get married and have a whole bunch of kids and... if not sing, they'll be written music. That's they way it goes, but they'll definently stay in the music business.

I think that the Backstreet Boys have a really good chance, better than the rest, of surviving the boyband stereotype, and the inevitable ending that goes along with it. Look at the 'N Sync situation. They're close to having to break up because of bad management, management that the Backstreet Boys got away from a year ago. The Boys now have good, trustworthy mangement, so they don't have to worry about that. Look at "Millenium." They've expanded their horizons in writing more songs, doing more work on it. If you look in the credits to some of the songs, Brian, Nick, and Kevin have all done voice and song arrangements. Kevin played additional keyboards on a song. Brian directed the choir on "The Perfect Fan." The songs are more so where not just teenage girls enjoy them, but wider age range, and even more boys. I was at a fan web-site for an actress, and one of the webmasters, a 16 year old boy, stated that you could call him gay if you wanted, but he liked the Backstreet Boys' new cd, and he wasn't ashamed of it. As long, as the Backstreet Boys keep expanding their audience, they don't apply to what the author said about "What happens when the kids grow up?", because the kids will grow up to find that the music they liked as kids still relates to them now that they're adults.

Nevertheless, I feel that the Boys have been around for an amazingly long time, when considered a boy band. 6 years is a long time, and even if it does end soon, at least they were famous and successful for a lot longer than NKOTB, to whom they are endlessly compared to. Who comes out the winner there? Who has a chance at having a happy ending to their movie when the other had a bad one? Point made, I think.
