Are Their Days Numbered?

All I have to say is the Backstreet Boys aren't just a "kids" group anymore, my mom bought their new cd. Adults like them as much as kids do. I've liked the group for four years now, I don't think I'm just going to grow out of their music, maybe people that like them for their sex appeal but true fans of their music will grow with them. They are very talented and will be big for years to come.

Everyone always has a different opinion about what music is best, which bands will last, and who will make their mark on the history of misic in general. I don't know if anyone else can hear the difference in their sound from the first US album and the most recent one, but I sure can! The harmonies contain more depth, the emotions that are portrayed in some of the tunes are more mature, and the general image has also matured. These guys have gone beyond the "one hit wonders" and will soon be so far beyond the image of "boy band" that it will become ridiculous to call them such. These guys are here to stay, they will continue to mature and grow as musicians, singers, and performers. Or at least this admirer/listener hopes so.

What I am about to say is not just to the nay sayers of the world but to any artist who could maybe possibly be reading this (hey you never know).

Each time i hear another thing about 'boy bands' i get more and more pissed off. I hate it that they are ranked on just cuz they dont play instruments...ya SO? Many of the greatest artists of all time DIDNT play instruments. Did u see Tina Turner playing something? Cher? Do you see Mariah Carey getting off and butt and playing an instrument? I think not. What about Anthony Keidis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers...nope. Any country stars like Shania Twain? Still no. Shouldnt we be admiring these artists, including the Backstreet Boys, for their TALENT? Their skills? Their wonderful voices? Yea we should. Not many people have the power to sell millions of records and singles, sell out a tour in less than an hour and still be here. How many years has it been since the Backstreet Boys have started? about7? I think thats damn good for a generation like ours where fads come and go. The Backstreet Boys are still here, and they will be as long as us fans keep them alive. like a Boy said - "As long as we keep making hit records there will always be the Backstreet Boys." I mean sure there will be a time when they are gone, but in my heart as well as millions of others- they will be alive forever. So how about we enjoy them now and be happy for their success and how they make us feel. People shouldnt be wasting their time writing about when artists will fade into the background. Why not write about whos changing the future of music. And whos in the hearts of millions of americans. Or how about this one -if ya dont have anything nice to say...dont say anything at all.

OK, I think the Backstreet Boys should not even be names as part of the " Boy Band " thing. They may be 5 Guys who can sing, dance, play music, and write music, but just because they are " Boys " ( not really, anymore ), does not mean they should be named a " Boy Band ". I feel that the BSB are really aging with their audience, becuase if you go to a BSB concert you'll see people from 50 to 5 there, and that shows you more than words can say. It shows you that the Backstreet Boys are respected by young and old people alike, and they are great musicians.

Okay. I would just like to start off by saying I am 18, and my mom is 42. My mom's birthday falls on January 10th, and guess what she wants for her birthday? A BSB ticket to see them in concert in State College PA on Feb. 12, 2000. I'm going with a friend, and when she found out I couldn't get her a ticket-well she's been pouting for weeks. She's scouring ebay, has all their CD's in her car, and knows all the songs off by heart. I think email in itself is enough to dash Sherman's narrow point of view. Sure the BSB won't be around forever, even as a hard core fan I know that. There was no "boy band" genre when BSB first came out. They were referred to as a boy band AFTER N'sync, and 98' came out. Remember when you are trying to ring Shermans neck-she's a CRITIC, and criticizing is her job-she expects us to lash out and disagree with her. But all us Backstreeter's know that our "men" will stay as long as we keep loving their music and loving them-so really it's not what the critics think, it's what we the fans think. So keep on listening, and KTBSPA!

BSB are going to be around for quit some time - as a group - as solo artist - and reunited. Their fans range from 4-84. With a huge market in the female fans that range from 11-40 something. That is the secret behind those huge sales. There are many listeners out there in the older market that love pop ballads. It is because bsb can do this so well that they have gained the love of so many.
