I REALLY FEEL THAT ALL PEOPLE NEED RESPECT, NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU DO. I CAN AGREE WITH MOST OF WHAT SHE SAYS ABOUT ALL THE SCREAMING AND ASKING OF THINGS THAT THE FANS DO. IT IS DONE MOSTLY BY THE YOUNGER GIRLS, BUT NOT ALL.. UNFORTUNATELY I REALLY DON'T THINK THAT THAT CAN OR WILL BE CHANGED. THOSE GIRLS ARE GOING OFF OF PURE EMOTION AND ADRENALINE. THAT IS SOME POWERFUL STUFF! I AM 30 SOMETHING, AND I LOVE THE GUYS, I EVEN FOUND MYSELF AT THE CONCERT SCREAMING FOR NICK WHEN HE WAS 5 FEET OVER MY HEAD! BUT WHAT I DO KNOW AS AN ADULT, IS THAT WHEN YOU DO WANT TO BE A "CELEBRITY" THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS THAT JUST COME WITH THE TERRITORY. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVE NOTICED, (ANYONE CAN DISAGREE, IT IS WHAT I HAVE SEEN) THAT SOME OF THE GUYS SEEM MORE BOTHERED BY THE SCREAMING, FANATICAL FANS LATELY.....I HAVE NOTICED A DRASTIC CHANGE IN BRIAN'S BEHAVIOUR EVEN TOWARD NICK, AND I DON'T THINK THEY REALLY KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH ALL THIS. I RECENTLY BOUGHT THE FAN CONFERENCE ON NOVEMBER 99 IN CANADA OFF OF AN AUCTION, I WAS SAD TO HEAR A FAN WHO WAS QUITE TICKED OFF AT AJ AND BRIAN FOR NOT METIONING QUEBEC CITY ON THEIR THANK YOU'S ON THE MILLENIUM CD. SHE WAS PRETTY BRUTAL, AND BASICALLY SAID THAT THEY SHOULD REMEMBER WHO THEIR FANS WERE FIRST, MEANING CANADA. I THINK WHAT LORI DID NOT TOUCH ON IS THAT BECAUSE THESE GUYS SEEM SO DOWN TO EARTH, THEY SEEM PRACTICALLY WITHIN ALL OF OUR REACH. FROM YOUNG TO OLDER. BUT WHAT WE MUST REMEMBER, IS THAT WE DON'T OWN THEM JUST BECAUSE WE BUY THEIR CD, OR THEIR MERCHANDISE. IN SOCIETY TODAY, OWNERSHIP HAS IT RIGHTS WE TELL OURSELVES. WE ALL HAVE OUR FAVORITE GUY AND IT IS SO EASY TO FORGET THESE ARE CELEBRITIES! THEY ARE NOT IN OUR REACH, THEY MAKE MORE MONEY IN ONE DAY THEN MOST OF US WILL EVER SEE IN A LIFETIME. THEY HAVE SEEN PLACES AND THINGS THAT MOST ADULTS WILL NEVER GET TO SEE IN THEIR LIFETIME. YES, THEY SEEM LIKE ANY GUY IN ANY TOWN USA.....BUT THEY ARE NOT, AND WE CAN ONLY VIEW THEM FROM AFAR. PEOPLE IN GENERAL HAVE PUT SO MUCH PRESSURE ON THEM IN THE PAST 9 MONTHS, THAT I AM SURE THEIR HEADS ARE SPINNING, ALL THE WHILE THEY ARE ENJOYING THE LOVE, AND ATTENTION BUT IT IS A DOUBLE EDGE SWORD. AS NICK SAID IN HIS MTV BEHIND THE SCENES INTERVIEW....HIS WORDS WERE TO THE EFFECT OF "I AM SURE ANY MAN ER ANY GUY IN MY POSITION WOULD ENJOY THE ATTENTION WE GET FROM THE GIRLS"...HE IS ONLY 19, SOON TO BE 20 IN A FEW WEEKS, AND HE REALIZES JUST HOW "ON TOP" HE REALLY IS. I AM NOT SAYING THEY DON'T APPRECIATE US FANS, BUT I DO THINK LATELY THEY DO NOT ACT (EXCEPT HOWIE) AS "HUNGRY" AS THEY USED TO. THAT IS WHAT MAKES ME APPRECIATE A BAND, WHEN THEY KNOW THAT IF WE ALL STOPPED BUYING THEIR CD, MERCHANDISE ETC... THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LIVE THE VERY COMFORTABLE LIFESTYLE THAT THE FANS HAVE GIVEN THEM. THAT IS ONE OF MY BIGGEST GRIPES WITH THE WHOLE AWARDS SHOW THING, THAT BANDS IN GENERAL THANK MANAGEMENT, FAMILY, THEIR DOG, AND THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST THE FANS..... (RECENT EXAMPLE OF A GRACIOUS ENTERTAINER.....I AM NOT A HUGE FAN OF MARIAH CAREY, BUT I WILL GIVE HER PROPS FOR THE REALLY GENUINE THANK YOU'S TO HER FANS AT THE BILLBOARD AWARDS. THOSE COMMENTS FROM HER MADE ME A FAN OF HER, JUST THOSE FEW SENTENCES OF THANKS...BECAUSE SHE REALLY DOES KNOW WHO MADE HER. NOT THE MAKEUP ARTIST, NOT MANAGEMENT, NOT TOMMY MOTTOLA, BUT HER FANS. LISTEN, I AM NOT JADED OR AN ENEMY OF THE BSB. BUT I DO KNOW THAT ONCE WE AS FANS BLAST OUR STARS OUT OF THE ATMOSPHERE, THEY NEVER COME BACK BEING THE SAME TRULY HUMBLE PEOPLE THEY STARTED OUT AS. I HAVE MY OWN HARD TIME REALIZING THEY ARE NOT PERFECT, I DID NOT WANT NOR DO I WANT TO ACCEPT THAT THEY ARE UNREACHABLE. AGAIN, GIVE THEM THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE FOR BEING TALENTED ARTISTS, BUT ALSO REALIZE HERO'S COME FROM WITHIN YOUR OWN COMMUNITY. LOOK INSIDE YOURSELF FOR YOUR OWN STAR. I am 13 and I have never even thought about stealing anything from them or taking some of the grass from their yard(Everybody's heard about that, right?) I would be glad just to see them from a mile away. I would NOT flip out like some people. It's so true ... we all want to get close to them and it is just not possible for them to meet everyone. The hubby knows how much I want to meet Kevin (and wants to have me committed in the meantime) but like at some of their fan conferences ... they just can't meet everyone. I think it was AJ that made a comment at a fan conference that he would like it if someone would care about Alex (his real name) and not "AJ". When I read that it just got to me ... it must be very difficult to trust people. Do they like me because of me or because I am a Backstreet Boy? I think it must be hard to deal with that ... but they do. Sure if I ever saw AJ with all his tattoos I'd have to wonder if he was a badass but seeing him interviews and especially seeing the interview with his Mom at the BSB Fan Club headquarters ... the way she is so proud of him and loves him ... you know he was brought up well. So, it must be a very interesting life. I'd would love to get up in front of 30,000 people and sing my heart out. What a rush it must be? Guys screaming at you, sure the money ain't bad either but doing something you absolutely love and fans loving your music ... what an awesome feeling that must be!! And yet we only see the outside and hear tidbits of the inside ... how hard they work, all the trials and tribulations they had to endure of the last year and a half ... we see the glamour ... they see and live what it takes to get there. Anyway, I love these guys and I love reading all the articles about them ... only the true ones. I wish them nothing but love, health, happiness and success. I thanked him and the rest of the boys for saving my life. About two years ago, I was going through a rough time...actually I always do because I am a manic depressive, so it's kind of hard growing up like this. My little cousin was born with the same thing as Brian and recently was operated on and the hole in his heart closed. I didn't confess my love for him, or tell my favorite Nick that I love him. I simply told him to thank them for giving me my life back. I am 17 years old and I know that no matter how many people confess their love for them they are still going to be who they are. I like the Backstreet Boys for being the Backstreet Boys. Their music speaks to my heart and nutures my soul....I truly owe my life to them, and love them. Thank you once again. The Backstreet Boys dedicate their lives to this, to make them and their fans happy. Why ruin that? It makes me pretty damn mad to know what some 'fans' do. I remember A.J. once saying he no longer gets as close to the fans, because of one incident. When he leaned down to kiss a fan, instead of thanking him, she ripped his earing out, as a 'souveneir'. Am I the only one who was serverly ticked off by this? Not to mention, that is just sick. It is fans like her that give us a bad name. All I want to say is Lori is right. The Boys work very hard for themselves, but mostly for their fans. They are very greatful to us, and they treat us with respect. Why can't we do the same? I apologize to those fans who do respect the Backstreet Boys. You are the true fans. For those who have hurt them, stole from them, been impolite to their friends/family/girlfriends, grow up. That needed to be said and thank GOD someone said it! I agree on EVERY point! This is great that all of that was said.
