Yes I'll admit it I was desperately looking forward to the concert, but this news came as quite a shock. I was not expecting this nor did I want it to happen, but none the less, when I heard the news I didn't care about my concert or anyone else's. All I wanted was for A.J to receive treatment for his problems and recover. I also began praying for the other members since this must be pretty hard for them as well. My grandfather passed away just recently, and I went through a state of depression. I gave up everything I loved including singing which is my passion. Once I discovered that I had a problem my friends and family guided me through and I know that Nick, Howie, Brian, Kevin and A.J's family will do the same for him. So as I shut-up, because I know I'm sounding really sappy and we all don't need this right now. I'm sending Nick, Brian, Howie and Kevin but in peticular A.J all my love, prayer, support and faith that they will all overcome this and come back stronger than before... Submitted by amanda from staten island new york USA Date: Wed Jul 11 10:54:26 2001 it is now wednesday...we all heard the news monday. i know for many of us, we feel incomplete knowing that everything with the Boys is up in the air right now. on monday, i was shopping in NYC after work when my best friend called me up to tell me that TRL had breaking news on BSB. then they said they were there, so I decided to take a subway to MTV studios. when i walked out of the subway station and walked toward MTV, I saw the usual crowd we all see on TV. with the phone still on my ear, I heard the Boys proclaim AJ's problem, and the clip of him singing that song, and lost all control of myself. i looked around, and saw many other girls, and parents with tears in their eyes, shaking their heads, and astonished. i was lucky enough to see Brian and Nick after TRL. i did not want an autograph, I did not want a picture. I wanted to see their faces not on a camera, not trying to hide their feelings, i wanted to see them as themselves. sure enough, the expression on their faces explained the hurt they were feeling, and the pain they were going through knowing that the "brother" they have all grown with the last 8 years was going through something they had no control over. i know this is starting to get long, but i think it's best we all get what we are feeling off our chests. we, as BSB fans, can only relate to eachother...some of our friends who aren't fans may not understand the pain that we feel because of "some celebrity." we all know that AJ and the rest of BSB are not just celebrities to us. they are there when no one else is...not physically, but we put on their songs and watch their videos, just to make us feel a shade better. The Boys never had any of that like we do. In a time where we would need the Boys, AJ needs us. The last time I saw the guys was July 2, one week before he came to the guys, they did the Today Show in NYC. From what I saw from AJ, was his usual self, the crazy guy, dancing and fooling around with the rest of the guys and the band, as well as interacting with the fans. How can someone act that well? How bad was he hurting that he couldn't put on that act anymore? It kills me to know that how he was, was just an act. He was suffering from depression...DEPRESSION!!! Would you ever think A.J. McLean was depressed?? I don't know what else to say to you, the fans, that hasn't already been said. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. This is a time to bring us all closer, family, friends, fans, and the Backstreet Boys themselves. I'll see you guys when everything is back to normal, everyone is healthy, and everyone is happy. I have been an avid fan for the full 8 years. A.J. you have helped me get through some of the roughest times in my life. I'm praying that you get through this . This is life, and stuff like that happens. AJ is a normal person, just as we all are, and he deserves the same support, reactions, etc that you would give a family member or best friend. Because when it all boils down to it, the guys are exactly that... just guys. They just happen to be famous. But that doesn't define who they are and what happens to them. On that note, that's why it didn't send me to tears when I heard about it. This isn't something life-altering for US, it's life altering for AJ AND HIS FAMILY. That said, all we can do is accept the fact that he'd normal and human, and support him in all that he does... and pray that everything works out for the best! AJ, the world loves you, the fans love you, but no matter what happens, we DO understand you struggle to some degree, and sympathize with your efforts. Don't feel as if you're doing this to hold up to expectations, do it because it's RIGHT and it's what you need to do for YOU and no one else! Yeah sure I'm upset and sad but at the same time I'm very happy. I would like to honor AJ with getting help with his problem when he relised he couldn't do it on his own. I know what it's like to have those problems and whoever says they found AJ to be stupid and things that are cruel they have now clue that it's something chemical and not just wanting attenchen or trying to get the group this and that.
